    Small, but fun

    Customer review by JustRonda

    5.0 stars by JustRonda

I received this puppy free, to test and share my experience. What's really cool about this dog, is that it understands voice and physical commands and it can be taught up to 30 tricks. He'll remember tricks, but if he's ignored, he'll forget them. He'll also misbehave by "peeing", lol. It's so realistic that you have to watch how you treat him, like a real dog. If you're impatient, yelling, etc. he'll be put in a bad mood and won't listen. I had as much fun as the kids playing with this because, it wasn't as difficult to teach it tricks as I thought it would be. It only took about 5 minutes to understand the tone the dog would accept. It ignored me before then because I was speaking too soft, then too loud. Also, my kids were speaking too fast in the beginning. After that it was a breeze going down the list of tricks and having Shadow follow!

Fun, Interactive Toy for the Whole Family

I was so excited to give Shadow to my two boys (age 5 and 2). I charged him (which only took about 30 minutes straight out of the box) and then reviewed the instructions before giving him to the kids. The second they saw him scooting around on the floor, they were hooked. My two year old thought it was the most hilarious thing ever and my five year old wanted to know what all it could do. I started giving Shadow basic commands (sit, play dead, etc.) and found him to be fairly responsive. We had a couple issues with him understanding what we were saying...but that was likely to do with the two year old yelling in the background. I taught my five year old how to give a command and he was able to do it right away (and Shadow understood him). The battery life is decent...we played with him for about 30 minutes straight and he was still going strong. At that point we needed to start homework and bedtime routines, so we put him away. We have played with him every day for the past two weeks. This is a smart toy...he is learning more every time we play with him and has learned some new tricks. This toy isn't just for the kids...my husband and I have both really enjoyed playing with him. We might have even turned him on after the kids went to bed one night. You know...to teach him some new tricks. We don't have a dog of our own, so Shadow has been a fun addition to the family. I would highly, highly recommend him. The price is a little steep, but the technology and play time is worth it for sure. He is also very durable...my two year old isn't the most gentle of children and he has picked him up, dropped him, etc. and there isn't a scratch on him. I received this product for free to test, but the review is my own!

    An amazing, well-made toy

When I first opened the box, I was not impressed. The little robot dog was filthy, completely covered with some sort of dust. I was able to remove all the dust with some baby wipes, and he looked nice and new, and when I turned the power switch on, the robot functioned just fine. I went through the list of voice commands in the included booklet, and the puppy responded well to them. The wheels are very strong. It balances great, and it travels across carpeted floors just as well as hard floors. This little robot is absolutely adorable and extremely entertaining. My son is only three, and his speech isn't the clearest yet, but he loves this thing, even though it doesn't respond to his voice commands. He doesn't seem to mind one bit. He loves watching the dog zip across the room, smiles as the puppy's eyes light up, and giggles whenever it makes it's noises. Sure, the box indicates that this is for ages "5+", but there doesn't seem to be anything on this that could hurt a smaller child, and there are no tiny choking hazards or anything like that. I supervise him when he is playing with this toy, so he can learn how to take care of it and not break it. This is a pretty noisy toy, but it is certainly tolerable. Shadow has an internal battery that has to be charged with a USB cord. Only the USB cord is included, so you will need to purchase a wall charger, or plug the cord into your computer. It takes about an hour to charge. After it is fully charged, it only has about 30 minutes of play time before the battery dies. So, it doesn't have enough time to become annoying. At first my son was annoyed by having to recharge it, but he is learning to be patient. My son has a lot of fun with this toy, and I don't see him getting bored with it anytime soon.

    • It does not take batteries because it uses a usb cord (included) to charge it up. Saves money on batteries. You just plug it into a charger or if you have a wall adapter (not included)...I just use my computer or my cell charger since the cell phone wall charger has a usb attachment.

    • I was pleasantly surprised how well Shadow Zoomer ran on my carpet and that he could handle the transition of about 1/2 in height between the kitchen vinyl time and the carpet. He could go back and forth between all the rooms. My carpet is pretty plush and full with premium padding, but the carpet is not shag, just standard height pile. He does well rolling along and can easily right himself after rolling over, etc.

    • I would say carpet would slow him down. He LOVES hardwood floors. Short nap carpet would probably be fine. Longer "fluffy" not so much. HE IS ADORABLE!!

    • May depend on the carpeting, but we have two Zoomer puppies and they both work better on hard flooring.

    • low pile carpet should be fine but it states in the directions/owners manual that toy is NOT for outdoor or high pile carpets...the toy has wheels and although they do have great traction( we have hard wood floors and had NO problems at all) it may not be able to get around on a thicker pile carpet as the wheels might not be able to touch the carpet bottom

    • I have hardwood floors and also carpeting and it worked great with both. The carpeting is short so I don't know how it would work on the longer styles of carpeting but from what I have seen I think it would still work well.

    • toy comes with a USB plug that is plugged into either a computer or laptop...there is a separate plug that you can purchase to plug it into a wall outlet( no info on if they have a plug for 220.)Since plug that comes with it is for USB on computer or laptop I would think that if you can plug your computer or laptop into 220 it should be fine....

    • Shadow contains one internal 3.7V LiPo Battery that charges via a mini USB cable that you can either plug into a computer USB port or into a USB wall charger adapter. However the wall charger adapter is NOT included, just the USB cable. I would assume that whatever voltage USB wall charger you use successfully in Europe would suffice. Probably why they don't include one, as they are probably not universal. Know though that you can plug him in with his included cable and charge him on your computer. Maybe website has more info than instruction guide. zoomerpup.com

    • Sorry, can't answer this one. You'd have to check with the manufacturer or the web site specs. You would have to be able to plug in a USB cable to your wall and I don't know if they're the same in Europe.

    • He does not plug directly into the wall outlet. He is charged via USB cable plugged into your computer. Or you would have to have a proper adapter that would plug into the wall.
