Had not heard of this brand, but it came up on website as an alternative to Motorola (which is the brand I was looking at). The ZOOM people said their unit was a bit faster than Motorola, had a 2 year warranty versus 1, and was built under their oversight while the Motorola had just licensed their name to some other company. The ZOOM was priced slightly less. I looked at their website and they seemed legitimate Installation could not have been easier. I am a Time Warner Cable customer. Called TW and gave them the make/model/MAC address of the ZOOM Unit (this info came on the box of the modem, but also appears on a sticker on the underside of the device). TW registered it. I attached the cable and power supply. In about 10 minutes it was running. The cable signal the unit has provided has been very strong and consistent. More so than the cable modem I was renting from TW. Saving $6 per month in rental charge so the ZOOM Cable Modem should pay for itself in 1 year.

Works great on Comcast and low price 3.0 Modem!

It works great with my Comcast Xfinity Blast! I save $7 a month now that I'm not renting their modem. If you have your Modem connected to a Router then during setup your new Modem, you will need to do the following: *Connect your Internet cable to new Zoom modem, bypass your Router, and directly connect your CAT5 cable from your Zoom Modem into your computer. (re-connect router later) *Then "click" to open up your Internet browser (may not bring up Comcast page on the first click) and key your Comcast Info. & new Modem Info. *Wait until it recognizes your new Zoom Modem. *Then turn off power to your PC, Modem and Router. *Re-connect Zoom Modem to your Router, and turn power on and then it should be connected properly to your Internet provider so you can surf the web. *If you have any problems just call your Internet provider (Comcast) for help.

This is a great working cable modem so far. No issues, no problems & it works well with comcast. So I do recommend it highly if you want an up-to-date modem and not keep paying those cable company modem fees.

    • A. Yes, they exist. They're called "gateways" (not to be confused with the computer brand). Here are the ones on Comcast's list of approved equipment: Zoom 5350, SMCNetworks SMCD3GMV, Motorola SBG6580, Technicolor TC8305C. (I only listed the DOCSIS 3.0 options, because that's what's current technology, and if you're going to spend the money, don't get something that's already obsolete.) HOWEVER, I would strongly advise against a gateway as opposed to separate modem and router, because if one part goes you have to replace the whole thing. I have the Motorola SBG6580, about 18 months old, and the wireless function has become very unreliable although it's never really worked as well as the other two-part setups I've had in the past with "lower-end" equipment. (Six feet from the unit, direct line of sight, and most of the time I only have two to three bars out of five. More often than not it doesn't even send a strong enough signal for tablets to pick it up at all.) Motorola says I can't turn off the wireless-router function and use it only as a modem. So, I now have to go buy both a modem AND a router!

    • A. The 5341J does not support telephone service from Comcast. You can use a telephony device like Ooma with the 5341J, but the cable modem does not support Comcast's telephony service.

    • A. The only bad question is the one that is not asked. The Zoom 5341j is a cable modem only. It does not have telephone ports. However, you can use a service such as Vonage and connect their box to the Zoom 5341j and then from their into a wireless router. Actually Vonage has two methods for connection. 1)Modem-->Vonage box-->wireless router or 2)Modem-->wireless router-->Vonage box. I have Vonage on this Zoom 5341j using config (1) above. Comcast is my ISP and I have no phone dropouts or disconnects.

    • A. Go to Comcast online and verify it is on their approved modem list. I know this modem works with Time Warner but I'm not sure about Comcast. If you still have questions, suggest you call Comcast customer technical support and they can help you determine the right modem for their service. Hope this helps.

    • A. no, you need to read the specs for each modem you are looking at. The zoom modem i bought was cable modem only. I didnt see any that could be used for telephone and cable. Not saying there isnt such an item available. Probably will be pricey, if there is. I suggest searching the "net" for a cable/dsl modem.
