    Good as Bottled Water

    Customer review by Cybernana

    5.0 stars by Cybernana

I live in an area that most people buy bottled water. I have tried Brita, both Pur faucet and pitcher. I have a water cooler and the 5 gallon bottles became too much for me to carry in during winter with ice and snow. I saw this unit that would convert your water cooler to filter the water using these filters. It is expensive and you have just a few places to buy the filters. I wouldn't ever go back to the other filters. I tried when I didn't have the funds to get the 2 filters required. It just doesn't compare. I wish that this idea would catch on to others so this item can come down to a more afordable price.

The Zero Replacement Cartridge is a good buy. The water tastes great and all impurities are filtered out. The cartridge itself lasts forever and the pitcher comes with a meter to read the level of impurities in the water after the cartridge has been used up, letting you know when to change.

Before purchasing Zero filter system, we did research. There were some negative reviews about how long the filters last compared to their price. 2 filters for $30 is very reasonable. It has been several weeks since we replaced the filter. We use it on gallons of water weekly, for ice, koolaid, drinking water, etc. There are huge savings already over using bottled water at that rate.

    • Per their recommendations: depends on your water quality. ZW filters out "Total of the Dissolved Solids (TDS)" in ppm, typically a combo of various natural & man-made dissolved inorganic substances that nastify water taste. So, the more/heavier the TDS in the water, busier filter = shorter life span. Based on their data observed from highest to lowest TDS in tap water, 0-001 (lowest) - 500+ (highest), filter would be good anywhere from 40+ gallons to 8 gallons or less. A water test should give an idea of where yours falls in the scale.

    • Depends on water quality you put in if you are within the U.S. avg. of 140-150ppm then you should expect to see 172-180 gallons of water filtered over 4-5 months with a zero water filter before you have to put in a new filter.

    • I found this changes from time to time. It really cleans the water to bottle water taste. I have the water cooler mount. I don't know what the pitcher does, but mine needed replacement every 2 to 4 months. I don't know why it didn't stay the same. It developed a strange odor so I replaced it.

    • Depends on the quality of your water. It changes throught the year in my area. We change it every 7-12 mon. Have 3 people and a large puppy. I notice when the tap smells like bleach or chemicals the filter doesn't last as long but it does take out what is causeing the smell. I have sencitive nose and tastbuds..

    • We have been using the original filters for over 2 years. Granted our water here is at 50 ppm from the tap. I just checked the filtered water today and it is now reading at 21 ppm. We do not use this for cooking....just drinking water, making lemonade, juices, etc.

    • We have used it for more that 15 already. I have heard that it can vary depending on the amount of elements in your water to be filtered out. We are very pleased with the function, price, quality, everything.

    • Specifically, filters out dissolved solids referred to as "TDS - Total of the Dissolved Solids." They (ZeroWater) refer to these TDS substances as "...a combination of inorganic substances (salt, metals, and other elements) that are dissolved in tap water and leave an undesirable taste." A few more details on their website, kind of same info more detailed. Really like ours.

    • Chemicals and solids that are introduced into the water such as chlorine and iron as two examples. the more removed solids the better the taste and my understanding the better it is for you. Sure does make coffee taste a whole lot better

    • all impurities from the LAS VEGAS water, readings on the device should be well under 50, and house water and even the filtered water from the fridge are almost 450

    • At this time the only certifications zero water has is that they remove chromium, lead and microbial cysts. However from personal experience we achieved a triple 0 and that is where distilled water is at. So anything allowable in distilled water could be in water treated with zero water. Supposedly that means that all minerals like copper, sodium, aluminum was taken out, the sodium chloride (that adds some saltiness and cloudiness while killing bacteria) and flouride in addition to the stuff certified above was all taken out. Just for kicks tested Ice Mountain bottled water and got a reading of 003 just a little food for thought. Mostly the sodium chloride and flouride were in the ice mountain nothing harmful.

    • When the test meter that comes with the unit reads 6 it's time to change the filter. Information sheet said it filters 16 gallons of water.

    • Hi - system includes a sensor/digital water meter to dip into the filtered water (can dip into unfiltered too and see difference). The range, measured in "TDS, Total of Dissolved Solids," in ppm. The range is between 0 - 200-ish or so, instructions are to replace filter when meter reads 006. HOWEVER, I have found, at least for me, that it is pretty easy to taste when to replace it. One day - crystal clear mountain spring water taste, next day - sample near industrial chemical and animal waste disposal taste (original taste) - tells me CHANGE FILTER or ELSE !!! Hope this helps, happy summer. PS: TDS described: "...combination of inorganic substances (salt, metals, and other elements)*brochure* that are dissolved in tap water and leave an undesirable taste.

    • Packaging says 200 gallons per cartridge. We go through approximately one gallon of filtered water per day, so I have my calendar marked to change every 6 months.

    • My pitcher came with a battery operated test stick. I use this to test the water quality. When the stick reads 2, I throw the filter away & put in a new one. No stick? The taste will be just awful when the filter has reached it's limit!
