The Perky-Pet 16 in Transparent Squirrel Baffler can be hung or pole mounted. When hanging the baffler, it blocks squirrels from above. The included hooks have the strength to hold up to 12 lb. The top hook attaches the baffler to a tree limb or other hanging location, while the bird feeder hangs from the second hook located underneath the baffler. Most squirrels will descend the wire to the baffler and give up. A more persistent squirrel may put its weight on the baffler in efforts to access the bird feeder below, but after climbing onto the baffler, it will quickly tilt, sending the squirrel down to the ground (startled maybe, but uninjured). The hanging baffler has the added benefit of partially protecting bird seed from rain and tree debris.

The squirrel baffler can be pole mounted.

Pole size 3/4" to 1-1/4" outside diameter.

There are directions on the packaging.

Did not measure it. But just by looking at it I say 1" to 1 1/4". You have to break the plastic through.

The small existing hole can be punched to approximately 1" diameter.

No.   It has to hang from its junky plastic screw onto something above it,  like a tree limb.   And by the way these plastic screws snap really easy.  Ours did last weekend, causing the whole thing to fall and injure a Bluejay.   We got to spend our Saturday morning driving the bird to a wildlife rehabilitation center.   I highly do not recommend this product.

16 inches, just as the name implies. I measured just in case they lied. The important thing is, it's wider than a squirrel.

Yes, but it may not remain secure. A shepards hook has a very small diameter and the screws could easily slide off, causing the baffle to fall. You could try putting a small amount of pipe insulation on the area you will screw into, which would make it thicker and more stable.

will i be able to attach this baffler to the pole part of a shepherds hook? i hang my feeders on this type of pole.

So far so good. It has kept the squirrels away from my finch feeder, so hoping this will work. The squirrels always seem to find a way to get into the feeder, so this may be the answer. The product is great, easy to assemble and looks nice.

Bird Feeder Baffler

Was having problems with squirrels getting onto my bird feeder. This product works and is  reasonably   priced. Best price out there! Beat amazon price by $$$$$. Great job Walmart!

Keeps squirrels off your feeder

The squirrel shield was very easy to install. After a few hours I saw two squirrels under the bird feeder obviously discussing my new shield. It's been three days and so far do good!

A food saver against squirrels

I hung the squirrel baffler today and have high hopes that it will do its job well. The design looks good. But I worry about the flimsy looking plastic hooks. My feeder is just like the one in the image and it is a bit heavy. I hope that a jumping squirrel will not be too much and break the plastic hooks. It is hard to understand why such a well designed unit would use plastic instead of metal hooks just to save a penny. If the plastic holds, my comments are wrong and I would give a 5 star rating. If they break, I will be at my work bench figuring out how to install metal hooks.

Squirrel Baffler

I REALLY like this baffle BUT when I got it delivered it was Cracked and missing the pieces to attach it to the bird feeder pole.
    I think if it was Not Cracked and missing that piece it would be perfect.  Very disappointed and will be returning back to Walmart.

Could be a 5 Star but Cracked and missing parts

It is described as a "squirrel baffle" which to me means a shield that prevents a squirrel from climbing your bird feeder pole. Actually it is a bird feeder COVER to keep rain from hitting the feeder. So it is not what i needed, however by chance i was able to rig it to fit the  diameter of my feeder pole. I had to tape it on to secure it. Be careful of the reason you are buying this item. So far it's working, but it's not designed to be a "baffle"

I purchased this Perky-Pet transparent squirrel baffler to prevent squirrels from climbing up a metal pole that holds two bird feeders.

This product has two design flaws:
1. The baffle is not slotted. Therefore unless you have a two-piece pole you will not be able to use this product.

2. The baffle hub is made of very cheap plastic. The locking screws are extremely difficult to install even when the screw holes were lubricated with oil. As I installed these screws the baffle hub cracked. The screws appear to be too large for the screw holes. The screw holes should have been threaded and should have matched the screws.

Very disappointing.

Transparent Squirrel Baffler with problems

We are very disappointed in the Baffle. Couldn't get the screws through the plastic holder. It's sitting in our garage. We are both elderly, but my husband is very strong and he couldn't put it together.
