Cheaply made - thin angle, cheap hardware, thin aluminum arm. Once I put it together, the trigger arm wouldn't move (the bushing was too short). A washer fixed that problem. Then, the trigger goes too far forward, so you have to pull the trigger back to lock the arm. If you pull the cord too hard, the trigger bar will go too far back and flip around, where you have to manually reset it. I added a screw to limit the forward movement of the trigger arm. Most throwers have the trigger arm on the other side of the angle frame - this one has a tab on that side to limit the trigger movement, but the trigger arm won't fit on that side. The trigger arm spring included in the "kit" was not the same as the instruction sheet, and also didn't fit correctly. The plastic "bushings" for the throwing arm shaft and spring arm connector are very loose and you can't get to them to replace them. I've only thrown about 20 clays at different angles and spring settings - no power. As I said, you get what you pay for!

I'm very surprised by the other reviews on here. I put this together last weekend stomped it into the ground and proceeded to throw 40 clay targets without incident. It worked great. The only thing that I can imagine is that people are WAY over tightening the spring. It should hang lose until you have moved the arm nearly 1/3 towards the catch. I had the tension turned way down and it was throwing clays into the wind more than far enough and more than high enough. It worked great without incident. My only complaint is that it could use a longer rope (easy fix). I planned on mounting it to a tire, but it wasn't necessary. Just remember it doesn't take much spring tension to work.

I wasn't expecting much for $30, though with the Winchester name on it I'd expect better quality. I've thrown about 200 clays with it in the last week and it works just fine, but you have to do a lot of reassembly and far too often. The frame has started to warp and twist some, but with the stakes driven into the ground it doesn't make much difference and it's cheap thin steel with a LOT of tension being put on it every time you use it. The hardware you're given to put it together is really the downfall on this thing. It's cheap and just doesn't hold. I've had to replace about half the hardware as it's fallen out or gone flying and gotten lost every 20 clays or so. It's worth the $30 if you're just looking to shoot in your backyard on the weekends for an hour or two, but if you're looking for any more than that spend the extra money on a quality thrower.

Poor engineering

The metal will not withstand the pressure of the spring/launching motion. However the real problem is in the design. For starters the instructions are very hard to read. Even when you break out a magnifying glass and follow the little pictures, it does not work. The little latch that is tied to your pull cord is about a 1/4" off from where it should be to catch the hook. Basically you cannot load the launcher. Also the machining which adjusts the height at which you would launch your clay is off- making the highest setting unavailable without drilling out the hole to make it an 1/8" larger. Honestly I am disappointed- this is a prime example of something that is priced to good to be true. Perhaps I have an exception to the others- but I cannot believe some reviewers gave this product 5 stars.

I have read several reviews and I have to say in contrary to those, that this is a terrific product and of great value. Tighten all screws, secure with spikes resecuring every 10-12 throws and most of all don't tighten the fly nut on the spring. If tighten to about an inch to inch and a 1/4 from bolt end, it will throw 40 to 45 yards at 15 to 20 feet high every time. Tossed over 100 clays and it work perfect all day.
