    Simple rules of electricity This is a great product IF hooked up correctly. One should not expect to be able to plug it into a cigarette lighter outlet and have it perform due to the amount of electrical current drawn by the unit. One would NEVER hook up a large car audio amplifier to the cigarette plug, would (s)he? The same basic rules of electronics apply here. Hint: the tiny wires powering a cigarette plug are not large enough to carry the current necessary to run any decently sized voltage inverter or car audio amplifier for that matter. If you are uncomfortable hooking it up yourself, check with Walmart about installing it for you or see if they can recommend a suitable installation facility such as a trustworthy car audio shop, mechanic, etc. Have it installed in the trunk of your car or on the back wall behind the seat of a pickup truck. Then you would never hear the fan! Hopefully, this was helpful and reduces some possible fires and many blown fuses from a botched installation. Always read your manual because many of the smaller units work great when hooked to a standard cigarette lighter plug but they were DESIGNED to run that way. Plus, smaller units do not draw as much current as larger ones. Many "work trucks" and SUVs have "power ports" that look like cigarette lighter plugs and have the necessary wiring for usually up to 30 amps.     Battlefield worthy I purchased 3 of the 1200 watt versions of this product while on a 13 month tour in Afghanistan and installed them in my Humvee. We used it to run Ipods, portable DVD players and most importantly.... my coffee maker and coffee grinder. The first two were destroyed through no fault of the product, but the 3rd one provided us tunes, movies, and coffee until I left. For all I know, some other unit is still using it now. It was a great product and handled the dust and sand with no problems. I would recommend it to anyone. 05/21/2009
    great product I was impressed with the speed with which I received the inverter and was able to pay for it with my gift card. I have hooked the inverter up to a solar panel with two batteries linked in parallel. I have used it to light four lights in my shop, used it to air the tires in my tractor (at the same time) and had the lights and a fan going without any flicker of the lights or drop in power.I would recomend this (and have already) to anyone intrested in power away from the house. 08/08/2007
    A good product Inverter works great as a stand alone unit. I wanted to plug it in to circuit at a remote cabin for lights only. It would not work because both the hot leg and neutral leg had some tie to ground. This may be the connection for all static converters. 06/09/2009
