I feel like I needed to give 5 stars on this little thing so people don't pass it up. After reading the reviews online, I wasn't going to buy this mower, but I decided to go ahead and give it a try anyways. I was very impressed with the performance. I bought a house last fall and the lawn was already well established, all I needed to do was keep it going. After a rather wet and cold spring, the grass was getting a little out of hand. I couldn't afford a gas mower, and I tend to lean on the green side anyways, so I wanted a reel mower to make as little impact as possible. Not having to fumble with mixing oil and gas and then spilling it all over myself is extremely convenient, to say the least. This little mower tackled some tall grass with relative ease. It did take a few passes, but when all was said and done, it only took about 30 minutes to cut my little 1/4 acre. It doesn't shred through pine cones or any branches, but it's a small price to pay. Even with a gas mower, I would have cleaned that stuff up anyways so I didn't have shredded pine cones and wood scattered all over my yard. After tackling the edges with my electric edger, my lawn is looking great at half the price, no headache from fumes, and no bloody shins from stuff rocketing out from under the mower.

I'm supposed to get a gas mower but I decided to check on this. It works well! My husband likes it and we are happy with it. Its really convenient to use in our small lawn and doesnt cost us a thing to run. I've read about a review of it being broken the first few rolls, it happend but it's not really broken. You just have to loosen a screw and a tool to do it was included. We just did it once and everything was perfect.

After going through a gas mower and an electric mower in less than 5 years I'd had it and decided to "punish" everyone for breaking the mowers. What I didn't realize was that not only was I not punishing everyone, I now have my daughter begging to mow the lawn! Its much easier to push and pull than either the gas or electric mower I had previously. There is virtually no maintanance. You can even select the height of the grass. I've mowed when it was wet and when it was dry and the only difference is its a little harder to push when wet. I also don't have to yell at anyone for running over rocks and sending them crashing into the car or the house. There are no messy fluids or mixing oil or cleaning spark plugs or running to the gas station in the middle of mowing because I ran out of gas. I don't need to worry about anyone running over an electric cord or pulling the pull cord off or jamming it. There are no filters to clean or motors to maintain. As far as negatives, I can think of only three things. First, some very tough grass or thick woody stemmed weeds need a few passes at different angles to trim. Secondly, if your lawn has a lot of pits and bumps it may be a little difficult to push. Lastly, you need to move sticks out of the way which can be a bit frustrating after the recent windstorms but you should be moving them anyways no matter what mower you're using. I am extremely satisfied with this Reel Mower. Its the best mower I've had in years and I think unless I move and have a super large yard, I'll stick with the reel mowers from now on!

    • A little bit, yes. The handle comes in two pieces, which you attach to each other & then attach those to the main mower part.

    • I purchased this mower and had to put it together. This was a simple task though as it only included bolting on the handle to the cutting unit. The bolts slide thru holes in handle assemble and it comes with these large hand freindly lock nuts that you can use to assemle everything by hand.

    • The machine comes in two parts, the reel (bottom part) and the handle. The handle has the most parts: two pieces of metal and some screws that have knobs so you can easily attach them without tools. The toughest part for me was orienting the handles into the correct position; the first time I did it they were upside down. But it only takes a few minutes to put together. The handles attach to the reel pretty easily. And then you're good to go.

    • Yes, you have to put the handle together which comes in four seperate pieces. The wheels are already together. Then you attach the handle to the wheel assembly. Shouldn't take more than half an hour.
