I have an SST25 that I bought in late 2003. It looks absolutely identical to the SST25C and has the same specs. I believe they were about $50 back then. I used this every mow for about 4 seasons. Recently, I had someone cutting my grass; so... it sat for a couple of years. I went to start it up, and the fuel line fell apart. A quick trip to ace, $2, and 30 minutes of labor later, the fuel line was replaced. After about 3 pulls, it fired right back up. I've never changed the spark plug; always run about 50:1 mixture vice the recommended 40:1... never takes more than 4-5 pulls for perfect running. The useful life rating on the sticker reads 50 hours. I've probably got 5 times that amount out of mine. My dad has a similar Weedeater; but 18cc. Its 10-12 years old. I replaced it's fuel line at the same time and BAM! It starts right up and runs perfectly as well. Apparently Poulan and Weedeater are similar, as the manufacturer stick on the side of mine reads Poulan in a few places.

Recently I purchased this from a Walmart store because I was in need of one. I read many reviews with different experiences with all brands and decided to go with this one. I will tell you that the hardest part with this was getting it out of the box. It was easily assembled, filled it with the proper mixture and with several pulls on the cord, off I went cutting. Read instructions on starting. I didn't and it would not start, but after doing it how the instructions stated, started right up. The power of this is incredible. Ripped thru thick patches of weeds like butter. I have a huge back yard and a decent size front and only used half the tank of gas. I also was able to angle it sideways and use it as an edger. Worked like a charm. Changing the string is easy and often. My advice is to buy better string than what comes with it (I had a spool of Weed Eater string with cutting edges, measured and cut it to the length of the supplied ones). By doing that I noticed the string lasted longer. My only cons with this are 1) it does kick up some rocks and dirt so wear pants and eye protection. the protector guard is not big enough to block everything that is tossed around. 2) the weight is an issue with larger area yards. Besides that, I would recommend this to everyone needing a weed wacker. Hope this helps!

I bought mine a couple of months ago. It is light weight and easy to start. I have difficulty walking much and holding anything heavy, this is just right. I would recommend this to anyone. It can trim most anything at an idle.

I bought the Weed Eater SST25C because it was rated as a Best Buy in the May, 2010 issue of a consumer testing magazine. They described it as "almost as good for less" than the top rated gas powered string trimmers. Since I only use it for light trimming around the house after mowing it sounded like the perfect compromise; light weight and less money but enough trimmer to do the job. I'm disappointed in the basic utility and performance of this unit. It fans tall grass right up until it rips into it unpredictably, sometimes tearing up the string if you're near a wall or hard object. You have to be at precisely the right angle and distance from what you're cutting and it's still easy to nick tree trunks or ruin the string. The basic build quality is good; it's just tricky to use and get good looking results. Learn from my experience; if you have a regular size yard just buy a good hand trimmer. It takes about the same time with more consistent results, far less hassle and it's easier on your tree trunks.

I've run this 6-8 times now and it works great. It has a lot more power than I expected. Most trimming I do at just an idle. Bulk line seems to last a lot longer than the samples that came with it (or I'm getting better at judging distances).

  • A. I like this question. You don't put in a new spool of line. You don't get tangles when you bump the head for line. You don't even bump the head. This machine uses a head where you feed in one piece of heavy line about 17 inches long with half sticking out on each side. It gets short, you put in another. I always spent more time untangling and rewinding spools than I did weed wacking. Not now.

  • A. If you're asking about the old model of the Feather Lite Trimmer, there should be a piece you can pull out of the head. The piece has a spool that you can wrap the string around and uses a bumper-head mechanism to release more string. If you're actually asking about this newer model, then you're out of luck. You can only put in string segments that are around a foot long. You bend the string so that it doubles over in the middle and put both ends into 2 holes that will be one one side of the head. If you put them into the right holes, then the two halves of the string segment will come out on opposite sides of the trimmer head. Tada! Now you have loaded the head and it will probably only last for a very short time if you're cutting grass of any appreciable thickness or if you're actually trimming against an object.
