My wife and I are avid cyclists and both own several high end bikes of both types. That being said we are very particular about the bikes we, and our 3 children ride. Our kids love to ride, but with the littlest one being only 4 she has a hard time keeping up on her bike with training wheels and is no longer interested in riding in the enclosed trailer behind Mom or Dad. We wanted to upgrade to something that would benefit the whole family without breaking the bank. We started to look into trailers like the co-pilot and quickly found prices to be upwards of $200 for similar products. As stated earlier, we own several high end bikes so we know the value and quality of more expensive bikes, but didn't feel this was necessary for a 4 year old. When we saw the co-pilot from WalMart under $70 we were hopeful but skeptical this could be the answer we'd been searching for. When it arrived we quickly assembled it and took it for a test ride. Immediately our daughter was excited to be cruising along with everyone else. And although even at the lowest seat adjustment she couldn't pedal the full stroke she nevertheless enjoyed coasting when she didn't want to try pedaling. Unfortunately, we did however notice a terrible sound from the freewheel/hub which started about 5 mins in and continued throughout our ride. After some careful diagnosing it appeared that the bearings in the freewheel were shot. We were disappointed to say the least, but figured we'd just return it and get another and see if it was a fluke. The second one arrived and after a test ride it rode even better than we'd originally expected. We are happy to say that after a month of frequent usage on both short and long rides it continues to perform beyond our expectations. Our 7yr old has also enjoyed using it when he doesn't want to ride his own bike and it has allowed him to go on longer rides with the ability to coast when he's tired of pedaling. The quick release seat adjuster makes it simple to change between riders of different ages. Just a few things to note: 1. If the kids are wiggling around or leaning it is noticeable on the front bike and requires some balancing up front. 2. When kids pedal there is noticeably less effort required by the front rider. 3. The chain guard cover can be easily dented and/or bent if the bike is leaned on the drive side of the bike. 4. Switching the attachment bracket between bikes (if you consider doing this) is a somewhat tedious procedure so consider which bike it will be used on most often before installing or consider contacting to company for an additional bracket. Overall we are very satisfied with the co-pilot. It allows us the flexibility to be more mobile with our kids and provides much more fun for everyone to ride together. We frequently see people intrigued by the product and are stopped often and asked about it. We are quick to recommend it.

I love it!! We just got it yesterday in the mail for my big 3 1/2 yr old. Pretty simple to assemble! She has excellent balance on it!!! No problems what so ever. I even made her wear her elbow pads and knee pads the first 2 times she rode on it, but low and behold, it's actually pretty darned safe! I'm very pleased with it, and hope this helps anyone who is skeptical :)

I ordered this for my 5 year old so that we can go on family bike rides and he doesn't have to keep up with us. Looked at higher priced ones, but the only difference I notice is that it is heavier than the others (that were twice as much). It folds so that you can store/throw it in the back of your car/suv and is easy to assemble.

    • No drilling. Easily assambled to your bicycle. It took as maybe 30 minutes to put it together and get it on our bike.

    • No drilling, but you need about 3 inches of seat post space to bolt the attachment to.

    • No, it attaches with a bracket to your seatpost. There are 4 bolts that bolt the attachment around your seatpost

    • No... but you will need around 2 1/2" of space on your seat post to attach hardware. I've got this and to me, it looks like it will fit any bike as long as you have the room on your seat post

    • No, there is a bracket that goes around your seat post. You can then leave the bracket on your bike all of the time and remove the child's bike with the quick-release. Extremely easy to do!

    • No. You simply place the bracket around the seat post and tighten. Very simple and without any damage to the main bike.

    Does it fold in half?
    by kerpiet 10/3/2010
    • It folds in half and would fit in most trunks. I have a trailer hitch bike rack and it does not have a practical way of fitting onto that.

    • You would detach it from the seat at the bracket, then you would fold the arm down and it would be quite small. Depending on the type of bike rack you could then mount it alongside another bike.

    • it folds in half, but I don't know if you could get it to fit on a bike rack or not it'd take some ingenuity to make it work. it does however fold small enough to fit into a trunk

    • Yes, we put on our bike rack but you have to detach it from your bike before you put on rack. There is a piece like a hitch so you don't have to screw and unscrew. You will love it!

    • In theory this should fit almost any bike but the important thing is make sure you have about 2 1/2" of space on your bike seat post (and actual seat you sit on) to attach hardware.
