Rated 1 out of 5★ by Marsblackman Poor workmanship I got this product as a gift and used it about 3 or 4 times. The compressor part worked just fine, but the red off/on switch cut off and stopped working. After taking the switch off and replacing it, it started working again for a little while and then stopped again. Nothing fall on it or hit it in any way, this is just a cheap switch. 03/08/2012
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Warumnicht Time Will Tell. I think most people buy 12-volt tire inflators to avoid paying for air pumps at gas stations and for emergency roadside repairs. My first inflator was the Slime Portable with gauge and light, which was around $15 off the Walmart shelf 1-1/2 years ago. Now $35 ?? I repaired the Slime at least 3 times by removing the back cover, lubing, tightening the motor screws which will easily work their way loose, and realigning the pump piston. The third time I repaired the Slime, I discovered the gears are made of very soft pot metal. The Slime is not to be run more than 15 minutes at a time. If you make this critical error (which is inevitable unless you plan on spending 3 hours topping up your tires after the 1 hour wait for the unit to cool down after every 15 minutes of use because it is slow to fill the tires), what happens is the metal expands. One nano-millimeter of expansion, and the gears start shaving each other off, and then one of the gears misses, and the next gear gets smashed, and then the gears start knocking off whole sections. If Walmart is going to continue offering the Slime Portable Inflator, they need to insist on better quality metal for all the moving parts. I purchased the Wagan 3-in-1 to replace the Slime because the Wagan supposedly has unlimited run time up to an hour. So far so good, although it is a little slow to raise the tire pressure. Having just received it and tried it out, I have one complaint: The process of winding the 10-ft electric cord on the reel (in a cavity on the underside) is ridiculous. The only way to do it is by doubling the cord and slowly inserting it into the too small crevice, especially at the corners. This process alone can take 20 minutes. I quickly decided to remove the reel out of the cavity at the 4 screws, and I plan on simply rolling the cord around my outstretched fingers, twisty tying it, and inserting it loose in the cavity, then storing the whole unit in a Caprisun juice box, which is a perfect fit. Other comments: Remember the switch is a two way toggle, for light or pump, never both at the same time, and it is not a single button. The gauge is more accurate than the Slime's, but you will still want to use a separate gauge. The swivel light may come in handy. When running, it does make some expected noise. The pump and motor do sound solid (without opening the unit up yet), but only time will tell. I do however doubt this thing could ever reach 275 PSI in under 10 hours, but it may last awhile. As I say, time will tell. My recommendations to Wagan: Make the cord reel with retainer edges on both sides to hold the cord in place and make the reel to snap in and out of the cavity. Also, make a special cavity with a snap lid for the 3 nozzles, instead of the current brackets. So far, so good. I have mailed in my 1-year Limited Warranty Card. 09/24/2013
Rated 3 out of 5★ by Barlester Not Quite Up To Claim This compressor was not supposed to vibrate a lot, but it does. The pressure gauge is not accurate; it is about 5 PSI low. The light will not shine while the air compressor is running. It is slower to air a tire than my last one, which was a no-name, high vibration 12v compressor.I have used it once on a tire on the back of my car; it took about 15 minutes to just bring the tire up to 31 PSI from about 20. I guess it would do a good job airing up bike tires, basketballs & footballs. I guess I'll use it until it quits, then get some other kind. 05/25/2013
