She doesn't get around well and these extra phones allow her to have one in nearly room without needing to install extra phone jacks.Remember that these will only work with an existing phone system. Her particular base unit supports up to 5 extra handsets.She uses the speaker phone function since she is hard-of-hearing. She wore out the speaker on two of the phones that came with her base. So these are also replacements for those.Each additional handset must be 'added' to the existing base. Easy to follow instruction are included with each phone. 11/06/2012
