VIZIO 47" Class 1080p 240Hz SPS Internet-Connected LED-LCD TruLED HDTV with VIA, SV472XVT 4.8 5 12 16
A great unit worth consideration Just thought I'd add another review to the mix of those who have come before me.Like most folks shopping for a hdtv, I did a fair amount of research prior to commiting to this vizio. That consisted of going to several retail stores to compare prices and view their displays, to looking up the reviews on consumer reports and cnet. For those shopping for a new television, I highly recommend this process. There is nothing worse than settling for a tv that may eventually have problems down the line. I did that a couple of years ago when I impulsively bought a 32 inch Emerson hdtv that was a door buster sale on Black Friday. For the first year, the Emerson was a decent tv, but it eventually produced horrific results by a distorted screen and sound issues. Now granted, I've only had this Vizio unit for a couple of weeks and there is no telling what may happen a year or two from now, but based on the reviews that I have read as well as how impressive it looked in the store, I decided that this was going to be the tv I would invest in. Thus far, I am thoroughly impressed.I'm certainly not a technical guru, but I can say that the quality of this television matches its samsung/sony counterparts at a more reasonable price. I am very pleased with the vibrant colors and crystal clear screen. What's more impressive is the smart dimming feature. Whether viewed in a well lit room or in the dark, the screen produces amazing results. Set up was very easy as it only took about 10 minutes to plug in, configure, and enjoy. The system setups are fairly easy to tweak to one's preference, and there are several screen displays that match the type of media watched, be it football, baseball, movies, games, etc. One can view the screen through nearly any angle. With our seating arrangements, we are pleased to be able to view a quality screen through nearly every angle. If I had one complaint, it would be the "soap opera effect" this unit has when viewing programs. For those not familiar with the "soap opera effect", if googled, one can find a far better explaination than if I tried to explain it.Initially, I really enjoyed the soap opera effect because it makes many characters in programs look insanely real, as if one is right there among the scene. I was impressed with this effect when watching shows like "The Office" or any type of sports. However, this effect also seems very unnatural during programs not intended to feel as real. The other day I was watching an animated show with my son and I noticed the soap opera effect. Initially, it seemed a little weird to see a cartoon character move around with a soap opera effect, but it didn't bother me. Infact, it sort of made the characters look 3D, if that makes any sense. The effect did become a little bothersome when I was watching an old Jimmy Stewart movie. It's certainly an effect that takes a little getting used to. There is an option on the unit to turn off the smooth motion capability, but in contrast to my minor grievance about the effect on certain shows and movies, my family seems to enjoy it.Over all, for the price of this unit and the specs that it contains, I feel really good about choosing this unit over the rest. The picture is stunning and clear, the sound quality is fantastic, and the setup options are surpurb in terms of allowing one to perfect their viewing preferences. With positive reviews all around and an affordable price, this television is certainly worth every consideration. 05/15/2010

excellent buy the only CON to this review is having to disclose my age.....i ordered this with 2-3 days shipping and got it on the third day after i hit the Submit button. nice!best money spent. i bought the Proscan 47"and for games, it stinks![took 2 and a half weeks for the delivery guy to show up and he was some huge trucking company i never heard of] for overall sound on tv mode or game mode, Proscan stinks! Vizio came FedEx--for those who care.with this Vizio you can really tweak. i didnt need a cable to make my xbox [original!] to work clear, my ps3 is perfect too.the sound is awesome, the picture tweaks are awesome, i havent used the internet access yet...dont know if i will.**when you get the tv, dont start ripping the box apart! there are 4 white clips that you simply unclip and the whole box lifts off the tv. someone was thinking!the remote is NOT huge or clumsy, its pretty cool. if you dont need to slide out the keyboard, its fine, it stays put. i like the remote. the remote works my direct tv too.i cant say enough about the picture quality on this tv. i have 3 Vizio's now. i get compliments on all of there picture qualities from anyone who stops by.theyre lots of features i havent even used yet and i love this tv. im a very picky viewer. the full led backlight is wonderful, no glare at all. 07/29/2010
Highly, highly recommend. Couldn't recommend more Going from my previous primary den's TV which was a Sony Bravia DLP to a newer class LCD LED HDTV is a no brainer to begin with. The question is which make and model to actually purchase, so as we all do these days smart buyers, wanting to be happy with their purchases do online research and visually compare at stores here or there. Yet I've always been one to realize that even seeing any TV in action at a store is still a highly flawed perception because there is no way to know how it the signal is hooked up. Is it wired using the expected high quality HDMI cable, coax, or something else which would degrade the input signal? My point is... even seeing a working TV on the shelf does not really give a full sense of anything or the TV's true features and certainly not their full capabilities. So after doing my online research I purchased this Vizio 47" online from Walmart.com on a Monday and received it on Thursday. Initial hookup of a few HDMI's was easy as well as the optical audio output to our Bose surround system.Powered it up, went through the initial setup functions, stood in front of it and made a few tweaks on my color saturation preferences while watching a blu-ray I'm familiar with. From that moment I could not be more astounded at the pure color clarity of this Vizio class TruLED system!! Across the entire color spectrum the picture is STUNNING to behold. Even the darkest blacks are beautiful to see.The online widgets even amazed my wife and has already transformed us into a new era of how we will define and us our TVs. So much so that I've never even considered NetFlix before but within a couple hours of having the TV went online on my computer and signed up for a 30 day free trial, entered on confirmation code and since our home is already wireless internet capable the TV was downloading our movie selections in no time flat from NetFlix. After the trial period the fee rate is $8.95 a month for unlimited downloaded movies with unlimited viewings... from a catalog of over 17,000 titles. So this capability alone amazes me.After going through all the custom settings and configurations my only complaint would be I wish the internal audio selections had a small graphic equalizer.Looking for an awesome TV in this size? Buy this one!! You won't regret it. 07/30/2010
