I bought this to replace my old tripod which is made out metal and this one is all made out of plastic and very light weight. It is cheap and has a cheap feel to it but if you are careful then it is a fine tripod. I will only use this one indoor only because the leg stands aren't that strong. The one thing that I really did like about it was that when I did use it, vibration was very low on it. My old metal tripod would pick up every vibration while being used. The bag that came with it is very cheap and I do not look for it to last a long time before it tears. I would only recommend this to people that are very careful with their equipment away from animals, children and some adults! lol

I really like this tripod. Although I was hoping it would be a bit more sturdy, it's well worth the price if you want a nice, light and versatile platform for your digital snapshot or video camera, providing it's pretty light and has a tripod socket. I couldn't believe the price and it turned out to be just what I wanted. By the way, Vivitar doesn't mention it in their description but I was pleasently surprised that it came with a nice carrying bag.

  • A. As long as your camera has a standard (1/4" #20) threaded hole it will work just fine. Just about all US cameras and camcorders have this.

  • A. It will work with any camera. The universal mounting hole on the bottom of the camera allows the tripod (Quick Release) mount to screw into the bottom of the camera making it the simplest tripod to use. Best value item.

  • A. i believe all tripods are universal, the camera should have a little screw beneath it which screws into the tripod to atttach it.

Is an additional quick release mount available for this tripod? Does it pan smoothly when videotaping? A reviewer mentioned photo editing software but it's not mentioned in the description. Does it come with a software CD?

  • A. It is not a fluid head - If you need smooth pans, look at a Manfroto 501. It comes with a nice carrying case - Software is on you. It does have a quick release. Again, you get what you pay for and if you want a professional tripod with a fluid head and heavy duty quick release plate, expect to spend several hundred dollars. This is a $20 unit.

  • A. It doesn't come with a software CD but does include a serial number for this imaging software...."Vivitar Exerience Image Center" which you can download from the internet. A second quick release would be useful when two family members share one tripod and occasionally go out on shoots together. If anyone finds a link for an additional quick release, please post it.

  • A. As for additional quick release, No. But why would you need one? It pans as smoothy as your hands do. Software CD? No it's a tripod not a camera. Although if you buy a Kodak Camera (I bought the Walmart Kodak easyshare C183 It's Great 14mp it takes photos and movies, another best value) you can download the software from Kodak.com for free.
