I bought 6 virginia cross-back dining chairs, and all have same problem. There are 3 32" corkscrews to connect seat to chair, and 3 holes on the chair rail, but only one hole on the seat. This one hole is in the front/center bottom of the seat but seems to be 2" off, if screwed in as-is, there will be a 2" gap on the back of the seat. Do I need to drill all 3 new holes? Any suggestions?

    • busymomofthreeangels: I bought 4 counter stools that match these chairs and had to buy longer screws for the seats.

    • I just lined the back of the seat to the rails evenly. Then that 1 hole that you mentioned i use as a guide for the front center screw. Then recheck the seat alignment. Worked fine for me.

    • I had the same question and was puzzled for a bit, until I realized that once you start screwing those screws in, they somehow attach or fit into place. I thought it was very odd too at first, but just go ahead and screw them in as if a hole was there and you will find that they will "catch" when/where they need to.

    • There will be a gap between the seat and frame, unfortunately. There should be holes on either side of the frame and the hole you are referring to at the front of the frame to secure the seat. Let me know if you would like pictures to compare.

    • Its drilled incorrectly. You just have to drill it yourself or drill without holes which is very hard. Or improvise

    • Sorry to tell you, you need to break our your drill, all right. I had the same problem. Put the screws through the existing three pocket screw holes in the chair frame and drill them into the seat. And yes, that pocket hole in the seat is completely erroneous. QC in the factory must be non-existent.

    • i have these chairs in black, but had the same issue. use a toothpick dipped in paint or something to stick it thru to mark where you'll need to drill once you get the seat on straigh and fluch to the back of the chair. then drill just a bit to get the screw started where paint went through to the seat. also the hole in the middle of the seat, that is not a predrill hole. if you use that your seat would be too far off the back.

    • I screwed the middle part first and then the sides, because the front is the only predilled hole. then I held the seat firmly while putting in the side screws. there was a gap at the back but not two inches maybe half inch which looks normal.

    • Once the chairs are completely assembled(except for the seat) you should notice there are holes in the cross bars that the seat will sit flush on & that's where you screw them in. I would suggest a power drill!

    • Im sure there is but me and my wife sat on the same chair together adding over 340 pounds. So it holds that.

    • Speaking personally, (and not very proudly I might add), I weight 270 pounds and have been sitting on the chair for about 2 weeks now and have had no problems. I worried about creaking or wobbling due to my weight, but so far I haven't experienced any. However, keep in mind, I've only sat on them for about 2 weeks so they haven't been used for very long.

    • Personally, I'd be a little nervous seating anyone who weighs more than 175lbs on one of these chairs. But that's just my opinion, I have no idea what the mfr. advises.

    • I don't know if there's a weight restriction, but the chairs seem very sturdy when large people sit in them. (6'3 and 240 lbs)
