I have to admit I was pretty nervous about making the purchase, I sent my mom to get it at the store and then I read the reviews which worried me some. But I got it home and used it and I LOVE it!!! I have never used a humidifier and its pretty much fool proof, It really helped relieve my babys cold symptoms since he cannot be medicated because he is too young, he also cannot use the meds for the humidifiers so the fact that its not required with this product was a plus! I make sure I clean it out every night to avoid having a hard time cleaning it, I put soapy water in it, shake it and then rinse. This is also not very loud, it just sounds like water boiling and it lasts a long time, I will wake up to it being still about 1/4 of the way full. I will turn it on low about an hour before I put the baby in the room so that it gets nice a humid and then I turn it on high for the night. I should note though that the water collects under the tank, just unplug and empty and dry and then you are good to go! It was well worth my money.

I did some research on humidifiers before I made this purchase and know that it can be confusing and a bit frustrating! After reading many reviews I realized that nearly all (even high priced) humidifiers had a mix of positive and negative reviews, so I just needed to pick one that had the features I wanted. One main complaint with humidifiers overall was that they tend to wear out or break. So, I figure, just buy one that doesn't cost too much and don't worry about that! This one is the warm mist which I wanted for more efficiency in humidifying and avoiding bacteria. It is small, so filling it doesn't make it too heavy to carry, but has a tank big enough to last all night (yes, it really did, even on high. It has auto shut off when empty, which actually worked this morning, around 9:00 it ran out of water and turned itself off. It didn't leak and it didn't soak nearby objects. It had no new plastic/chemically smell that I've seen reported with some other models. It was super easy to set up, does it's job and looks nice...oh and the 'night lite' around the dial is not too bright, so it is unlikely to keep you awake.

Total diapointment.I never expected a product like this from a company lke Vicks.I bought 2,and returned 2.The first one did'nt shut off when it should have.THe light lit up on the auto-shutoff,but it did'nt.Came into the room to smell the electrics overheating. When I was emptying the second unit it looked like someone poured a silty type sand into the base.I know it was not mineral deposits from the water I used because it was tan/brown in color and I use the filtered water from my fridge.(and my filter was just recently replaced,so I know it was'nt that.)Besides those issues, the units both let the smallest amount of steam/humidty into the room. They were supposed to be able to handle a room size of about 300sq.ft.( if I'm remembering correctly).I got more humidity from a hot cup of tea.Very disapointing. Now I have penguin in my living room, which is ok if you have kids but I don't.But the most important thing is it works. At this point I don't care what it looks like.

During the winter we get headaches from the dry air. We set up humidifiers all over the house. After reviews, we stocked up on several of these Vicks Warm Air Humidifiers. They worked great... at first. After continuous usage you will notice the black rubber water valve start to curl up rather than lay flat. Eventually it breaks off. Then the plastic pen inside the tank cap breaks off when the valve breaks off. You can still use the humidifier and it will work as normal but expect a huge mess when you refill the water tank and set it back on the humidifier. It wouldn't be so bad if you could order replacement parts (valves, pens and caps) but you can't. You have to order a whole new tank with the cap (About $15). These units are fine for use when you are ill. Not for everyday use for winter dry air that causes headaches and dry skin. Of the several (same model) humidifiers we purchased - all of them broke within a month.

I have only had the machine for 2 weeks now and it works okay but I don't know if it would work well in a 400 sq. ft. room. It depends on the amount of heat in your home/apt. My apartment is too warm that the machine barely hydrates the tiny bedroom it is servicing. I believe the radiator heat evaporates it faster than it is being pumped out of the vaporizer. For my needs I would need a larger tank that pumps out more mist in the same amount of time. One saviour I found with these vaporizors with heating elements is a solution by Holmes, also sold at Walmarts, called Holmes Humidifier Water Treatment. Just a capful per gallon will keep your heating element from lime & scale build-up. It works so well you just wipe the buildup off of the heating element; where if you didn't have this solution you would have to scrape and scrape the buildup off. What a hassel!

Clean with Vinegar

The first time I used the humidifier it worked really well. After that it didn't steam up as well. It reccomends to clean it every three days or so. Since I've had a Vicks humidifier before I know how the heating unit quickly gets caked up with minerals and prevents the unit from working well. Last night I tried everything to scrub off the white deposits and the only thing that worked was to let it soak in vinegar for a few hours. Now it works really well.

I have had this humidifier for a while, now and use it every single night, all night in my bedroom. I absolutely love it, it works just as great as the first time. I have seen a lot of people complain about the noise, but I have to disagree, it is less noisy than a small fish tank, maybe a 3rd of and sounds about like that, too. The nightlight is not that bright, either. I have been sleeping so much better, since having it, as the air gets so dry in the winter. I have it sitting on top of my headboard and there is no wetness anywhere around it. Filling it is easy as pie, just lift up the tank by it's handle, flip it over and unscrew the bottom cap, fill. done. One tank filling lasts me about 9- 10 hours on the high setting. I absolutely love this little machine and thinking about getting another one for the living area.

Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier

Very impressed with this humidifier. No problems with leaks, but I'm always sure to seat it properly and not to over tighten the valve. It works great in a 10x12 room and I feel the difference when I can breathe deeply without congestion. You need to place it at mid level in a room. I have it up off the floor on a dresser so that it has plenty of room to disperse mist into the room. People with carpet (like me) should not put it on the floor as it will cause the carpet to become damp and possibly moldy underneath.

it is a Vicks product, so i figured it needs the little liquid which is Vicks. Does this humidifier already come with it? Or do i have to buy that too?

  • A. nope. it does not need the vicks liquid to work. you need water. however, there is a small receptacle at the top of the liquid/water container to pour in the vicks liquid if you so want it. That vicks liquid does not come with this unit - you may have to buy that.

  • A. Buy the liquid for a couple bucks at Walmart. Vicks or Wal Mart brand. Add a little to the water if someone has a cold. I use it mostly with straight water to warm and humidify my room.
