I have a 1990 Olds Delta 88 Royale with 160,000 miles. I understand high mileage oil is recommended for high mileage vehicles but what about older engines? Is it ok to use synthetic blend high mileage oil in such an old car? Is it ok as long as I done use pure synthetic oil? And if I need to add a quart of oil some time once I have gone to high mileage oil is it ok to add a regular quart if high mileage oil isn't available? Any other quirks about synthetic oils you can share would be appreciated. I'm new to this kind of oil. Thanks

    • They're not going to put any kind of oil out there that would seriously hurt an engine. Synthetic oils are still oils, and again, they aren't that unusual that you need to treat them any different from any other oil. If you would add a quart of any normal oil to a car which is already loaded with another normal oil, what would happen? Answer, nothing. It is ok.

    • It is fine to use full synthetic oils in older, high mileage vehicles. Be aware, once you use a full synthetic rather than a 50/50 blended, you MUST continue using full synthetic oil for the rest of the engine's life. Adding another quart NOT high mileage is fine, again using the guidelines for full vs blended usage

    • Yes older engines also....and ok to use synthetic blend high mileage oil in an old car. Ok with pure synthetic oil but why change if what you are doing has worked for you. Ok to add a quart of regular oil. No valid quirks that I know of.
