I first learned of this item at a local sportsman's show. Very powerful - this is not a toy and deserves as much respect as a firearm. It is not what I would consider quiet. It is heavy and I like the build quality. Cocking the break-barrel with one hand was not a problem for me but it does take some effort. What I liked best about this item is it is an inexpensive way to have fun at the shooting range. With .22 firearm ammo currently expensive and maybe even hard to find, this air gun offers an alternative without compromise. It has kick and power but a tin of 500 rounds can be bought right off the shelf at Walmart for cheap. I would only recommend this item for responsible, safety minded adults.

First of all it's a pellet rifle not a BB gun ! A very big, heavy, long, accurate, hard hitting pellet rifle. It's rated at 42lbs. cocking effort ....believe it's all of that ! Not for every one,but if you want an air rifle that delivers knock down power for hunting...this is it !With scope its probably over 10 lbs., kind of heavy to carry while hunting, also just a little over 48" long.....this thing is bigger than most deer rifles ! Not a good first air rifle for beginners !So why do I rate it so good ! I have 5 other air rifles & this thing is tops,it delivers . You'll think your carrying around a sniper rifle...this thing is big & heavy, but I love it. Now ,the rifle is shipped in it's factory box,a very poor way to ship this product, mine arrived with the stock butt hanging out of box...there was a shipping label wrapped around front middle of box ..that seal was broken, box had been opened. I guess when you ship something like that, poorly packaged, somebody's just gotta have a look ! So , like the rifle...hate the shipping method !

Excellent version of the B28! Very smooth. Trigger not quite T05 good, but it's not broken in, yet. Like the open sights. I won't be scoping it for a while. Feels very solid and well-built. Easy to shoot, not very hold sensitive compared to other magnum springers. Can be an all-day plinker. Highly recommended!

After getting this pellet rifle out of the box with no adjustments to the sights rifle shot a 2" group at 40 yards. Sighted in with minor adjustments and after 9 rounds gun shooting 1/2" groups from bench rests at 50 yards. Installed scope that came with rifle and maintained same grouping free handed. Had cretervproblem same night and rifle fixed the problem with hard hitting RWS pellets. Would buy this rifle again tomorrow with no hesitation. Gun is a bit loud but that is what you get when you have a projectile moving at 1400 fps.

Pretty good for the buck. It is very heavy. Scope is so far usable. Pretty accurate. One caution - the cocking mechanism pin can fall out if not careful-keep upright when cocking & don't leave barrel in the broke position. I learned the hard way, pin feel out in a leaf pile, but found it & was OK. If weight isn't issue for you it's a good value.

    • A. I watched several youtube reviews on the Umarex Octane. The power is often measure in foot pounds (ft-lb). Magnum air rifles tend to score in the 20's. Depending on the pellet weight and type chosen, the Octane scored from the low 20's to the mid 20's.

    • A. It is powered by a gas piston call a ReAxis Gas Piston. Gas charged pellet guns are said to be better then spring piston guns. The gas piston will outlast a spring.

    • A. This is not a metal spring but an inert gas piston rifle, or I.G.T. for inert gas technology. It uses a cylinder filled with nitrogen gas, permanently sealed and never needing replaced. When the rifle is cocked it compresses the already partially compressed nitrogen in the cylinder. When the trigger is pulled the compressed gas forces the cylinder forward and fires the pellet. I say forces the cylinder forward, instead of the ram, because Umarez is the first manufacturer to invert the gas piston mechanism, (Reaxis gas piston), (turn it around 180 degrees), from the original I.G.T. configuration so the heavier cylinder is propelled forward carrying more inertia with it to give the pellet even more muzzle velocity. This increased muzzle velocity by approx. 200 to 300 f.p.s. This is amazing, and to set your mind at ease over buying a new technology rifle Umarez also supplies it with a three (3) year warranty. It can't get much better than that. I am personally saving to buy the Umarex Octane in .22 caliber.

    • A. Yes, this unit has a rifled barrel. Almost all modern Air Rifles do. The notable exceptions are combo units that fire either BB's or .177 pellets. The barrel on this unit is actually a bit shorter than it appears, to allow the multi chambered sound suppressor to function properly. It works particularly well on the .22 caliber version. The .177, in most light to medium weight pellets, goes super sonic and the resulting Crack cannot be masked as much as a sub sonic round can. However, if you get a heavier .177 you can get below the threshold speed and helps reduce the audible report noticeably. Plus, the increased mass of the pellet equals more down range energy. (foot pounds) Back to barrels, they have improved the rifling processes substantially over the years. Remember, do not "oil" the bore of an air rifle. This causes both dieseling and inaccuracy. The bore of and air rifle(after the initial cleaning when new) stays cleaner than a conventional rifle barrel. There's no powder residue to build up. I run a bore snake through every 300 rounds or so and store in a case or a safe to keep debris out. Good luck and happy shooting.

    • A. Umarex USA distributes and markets a wide assortment of products. Here's a partial list of brands they have. RWS, Walther, Hämmerli, Beretta, Colt, Smith & Wesson, HK, Ruger®, Browning, Makarov, Tactical Force, Magnum Research, and Combat Zone brands. The original company is RWS out of Germany. Their products are made all over the world under Patent. Some are made in Germany, Hungary, the UK and China. This particular item comes out of China. But, every product carries their name and is backed by them. Example: the Octane has a 3 year warranty, that's three times longer than many manufacturers and some makers have only 90 days. Plus, there are simply no price for price comparable USA made products. That's why Colt, Smith and Wesson and Ruger license Umarex as a manufacturer and supplier. They build a quality product and Wal-Mart makes it affordable. FYI I have no affiliation with the business or this Retailer. But, my budget requires I get good value on whatever I buy. I hope that helps.

    • A. approx. FPS w/lead pellets: 1250fps/.177 & 1050fps/.22. Stated fps is generally based on alloy pellets and may be exaggerated even then. Bare in mind pellets traveling over 1000fps are generally not consistently accurate so a heavier pellet bringing the fps down to 700-900 fps will work better. Use the artillery hold on any air rifle also. Imported from China as is most air guns. RWS= Germany (pretty accurate stated fps, I own a 34 in .177) Hatsan=Turkey (sent back a 125 nitro-heavy heavy trigger & rifle) Crosman/Benjamin/Ruger/Umarex/some Beeman/others=China Ps. some near future Crosman/Benjamin will soon be assembled in NY but the parts are still rumored to be imported from China. good shootin'
