Great Remote for the money

paid 20 bucks for this on whim because I had just got a new tv and the remote for my stereo was getting old and grungy. Had this running all of my equipment in 45 minutes, TV, Cable, DVD, and Receiver. What makes this even better is the learning capability along with it being preprogrammed. I can switch inputs on the receiver and tv and operate the DVR and you can make a punch through for the volume so that no matter what component you operate the volume controls go to the one you want, the receiver in my case. I think for $20 this is a no brainer.

I always have bad luck buying remotes that will actually WORK with our Toshiba TV, Magnavox DVD player and Tivo, but this remote has got to be one of the best on the market!! I love the fact that you can program the power button to turn everything off and on at once instead of having to push the button for each unit to turn them off separately. The pre-programmed codes is a GREAT feature and makes programming SO much easier than having to use code numbers. And the "Learning Method" of programming the remote has got to be the best advancement. I am not sure if this is the first remote to have this feature, but at less than $20, I'm sure it's got to be one of the cheapest! I cannot say enough good things about this remote. The only feature I wish it had was lighted buttons.

I had purchased this remote a while back to have a second remote for main TV/Sat/DVD player, etc. Found it relatively easy to program, even tho our DishTV and DVD player are several years old. Had to use the learning function for the DVD player, but it works beautifully. Bought 2 more for products in different rooms. Two of the 3 took the code for our DishTV just fine, but had to use the learning function with the third one. Not a problem. Love this remote and for the money, I don't think you can beat it. Highly recommend it.

This is a nice feeling remote and has a logical button layout. It did auto find my TV, DVR/Sat box and surround sound receiver. Problem was, it could not find my Insignia Blu-Ray player and it would not learn the commands from the existing remote. . Also, could not find any buttons to control the input (ie. DVD, Video, FM, etc.) on my surround sound receiver. It is very easy to program if it can auto find your components but if it can't you are in for some work and possibly out of luck. I called the support number and she told me they aren't compatible with very many Blu-Rays. She gave me a few codes which didn't work so back to Wal-Mart it goes.

Just got it today, in store. Had it controlling my TV, Dish Network DVR, DVD player and Receiver in very little time. I even had to use the learn mode for some commands, and still went smooth and quick. I got this as an alternative to the $100+ remotes and other than lacking a cool display I'm impressed. Would also like to have seen more of the buttons backlit, but for $20 I'm not going to complain.

Good for codes, bad for learning remote

AVEX universal remote by Universal- Decided to give this a try in my TV/DVD/Home Theater/SatelliteDVR/DVD-Recorder setup (who uses a VCR?). With that many devices, a single learning remote is essential. Unfortunately not all my devices had codes that worked with them. Ah, but you'd think that since this is a Learning Remote, I would be able to program any button for any device I need, right? Wrong. While this is a great value and a nicely laid out remote, there apparently is a (to use a PC term) "memory limit". Having to program the number pad for each device that didn't have a code AND program the other buttons...this remote can't handle that many things to remember. It essentially runs out of space to remember programmed keys. This astonished me! In this age, you'd think device memory wouldn't be an issue. But it is in this case. I experimented by deleting some commands. It would stop taking commands at the point equaling the number of deleted commands. So, this is a great remote at this price point, IF you can get most of your devices through the codes. If you have to have the remote learn a lot of commands, it isn't up to the task. I really wanted to get the remote to work for me, but, again, it just wasn't up to the task. Some parts of the instructions aren't specific enough, like how to program nested macros with the ABCD keys. I figured it out, but will also guess this is a lost feature since many mom and dads won't have the patience to figure it out. Nice that it's there, though, for the uber-nerds out there. I have other learning remotes by Philips. They don't have this memory limit, but the Philips lower end models aren't as well laid out button-wise as this remote is.

I debated in the store for 10 minutes on whether to get this R6 vs the R7 remote they also had for $10 more. I liked the layout of the R6 slightly more and since it was cheaper, bought it. If the box had stated that the R7 had double the memory capacity of the R6 (64 vs 32K), I would have bought the R7 in the first place. But the R6 worked excellent to a point. I have an odd TV that does not have a code so ended up using learning functions for most of its buttons. There was still a good bit of memory left over (I did not care about the number buttons) I programmed many punchthroughs to not have to, for example, change to audio from sat or tv to change the volume of the stereo or change the audio source. Also had to teach some of the dvd functions (USB vs disc) as well as fancy things like changing aspect and other functions on the dvr and tv. When I just was a few short of learning all the buttons I wanted, I ran out of memory. So back to the store the R6 will go to get the R7 I should have gotten in the first place. For the average user, though, the R6 is most likely all one would ever need. Being able to turn on and off all devices at once (or one at a time) is an excellent feature, the layout of the remote is good as is the feel of the buttons, and the learning function works great!

Ok, I have a no-name surround receiver, and the remote is dying. So i decided to get a universal remote. But none of them are programmed with my unit brand. So, I look into getting a learning remote (which means it works with anything, it learns functions from your current remotes). This remote is both learning and universal, learning so it works well with your current remotes, universal in case anything should happen to a remote and you can't learn from it anymore. This thing, for the cheap price, is easy to use, and comfortable to hold. I had it all setup with 5 devices in about 10 minutes. I would definitely recommend this if your house is cluttered with several remotes.
