After 6 months, I feel I know this product well enough to give it an honest review. PROS: - Comes in two flat boxes which easily fit in the trunk of my sedan with the rear seat folded, - Sturdier than other metal bunks I've checked out, - Great height between lower and top bunk - my 6'3", 280lb son-in-law can sit comfortably. - Looks good - not as good as wood but doesn't look flimsy. - Ladders may be installed toward the front or the back of unit. CONS: - Takes a while to put together, comes in a gazillion pieces and you'll do well to have a drill with a hex bit. - Does wobble a bit when someone moves around or climbs onto top bunk, but no squeaking! - You have to physically move the unit away from the wall to recline the bottom into a bed. - With a futon mattress 8" or thicker, you'll have a hard time lifting the bed into a futon without first folding the futon mattress in half. It's still a lot easier to convert than other metal futon beds I've tried. - The ladder rungs are hard on the feet but we found a solution: we purchased a long strip of 3/4" self adhesive dense foam pipe insulation (in dark gray to match the furniture) from the hardware store for about $2 and cut it to fit the rungs. Took five minutes and works perfectly, and the insulation doesn't spin on the rungs. - There is no entry/exit cutout on top bunk so your kid will have to haul themselves over the top rail; my daughter hates that about it. Overall, it's a great purchase and I'd recommend it!

    Futon Bunk

I purchased this bunk for my teenage son whose room is very small (roughly 10'x11'). Because of the small space, it was limited what we could do with his room. This bed is perfect, it fits great and he is able to entertain 3 friends while playing video games. It took about 2.5-3 hours to get the bed fully assembled. One thing I didn't like was that the ladder rails did not line up with the holes which left the ladder insecure. That was an easy fix by purchasing a drill bit and creating a hole so the ladder could be screwed into place. I went with the 8" futon mattress rather than the 6" because teenagers will use this and not small children who don't weigh much. I must warn you that with the 8" futon mattress you will not be able to lift the futon into upright position without having to remove the mattress because of the thickness. Over a few weeks the mattress will bend and flatten and you won't have to deal with taking it off and on. All in all...a great buy.

This bed really worked out for my family. We had a wood frame full size bed that took up most of the space in my sons room. This design made it work out for the space. It is a full size bed at the bottom that can become a sofa and a twin size on top. Putting it together was fairly easy although I wish they would have label certain pieces better. Most pieces are self-explanatory. I would advise you to get the best mattress for the bottom. My son loves it and it's good for company.

We were concerned that some of the round rod style metal beds were junky. This seems much studier and it seems designed so it should grow with our 10 year old into the teen years. It took about 2 hours to put together, but seems very solid. The only down side is the round ladder rails are narrow and my son says they hurt his feet. We are going to put black foam pipe insulation around them that should blend right in and help with the tender feet.

Bed was purchased just after Thnksgvng '09. We were worried delivery time would be longer since Xmas shopping was underway, but bed arrived on time. Free site2store shipping allowed us to save over $100. Bed was purchased for 6yr old boy and 9yr old girl to share. They enjoy going to bed and having their own space. Seeing the manual and all the parts out of the box was very intimidating for my husband and me but it only took us about 2.5 hours to assemble. Hardest part was one of the last instructions (snapping on thingys that ensure top mattress bars don't pop out). The bed does squeak some when changing from sofa to sleeper position. Overall, bunk bed seems like it will last us a good few years. The bed has a sleek and modern look and can be suitable for a range of ages.

I ordered my bunk bed online, and I was very skeptical about getting one. Im 19 and my brother is 9, and unfortunately we must share a room until I move out sometime next year. I figured this would be a good suit for us, and plus our room is pretty large. (15x18). PROS: Even with the bed, its still plenty of space in here, the futon is great! Just makes a little crinkling noise when you first sit on it. I havent been able to pinpoint the issue. My brother loves sleeping at the top bunk, and this one is a much better choice than the Dorel brand walmart sells. CONS: This bed came in two fairly large heavy boxes that I struggled to get into the house by myself, and has a B'GILLION parts. The instructions are clear, and they give you the tools though. It took me four hours to get the bed completely finished. I was hoping it wouldnt take more than 2.5. Overall I reccommend this bed. Its very comfortable. Just make sure if you have people over 135 sleeping or sitting on the futon you buy the 8 inch or after sometime you'll start feeling the rails. Im eager to see if this one lasts as long for my brother as my first bunkbed did. (5 years). It doesnt feel kiddy at all...I refused to go for that.

I carefully read every review I could find before I purchased this bed. It was for my 16 yr and 15 yr. Often they have other friends over who are 18. All the boys are football players and wrestlers, so stability and strength were of the utmost importance to us. The directions seemed easy to follow, but some of the details where hard to follow (keep in mind I am a woman and not inclined to build things as a normal rule). I had to put the ends together probably 3 times before I got everything in the correct direction. I was in no hurry putting it together. I worked in my living room putting together the end pieces, taking parts out of the boxes as I needed them. The parts were well marked with the exception of the rungs for 1 ladder which was miss marked. It took about 4 hours to completely assemble the ends. The next day I moved them to the bedroom and completed the bed in about 90 minutes. The package was short a nut and 3 washers, but they could have been lost in my house (the package was not sealed well) They were easily replaced. The boxes come with a million parts but the screws go in easily (most only required minor tightening with the allen wrench) and every part works together to strengthen the others - the overall design is very stable and sturdy - perfect for the older kid.

I was looking for a reasonable bunk bed for my 7yr old and 3yr old. I must say, it was easy to put together with the tools are already included. The metal is very sturdy and it looks very nice in their room. The boys love the bed! The futon bottom is awesome, it's easy to convert into a full and back into the reclining position. I am extrmely impressed with the bed!!

I have two sons, 11 and 9. This bed is perfect. It is very sturdy once put together. The Futon is perfect for them when they watch TV in their room with their little sister. Compared to the other twin over futon, this metal frame is thicker and solid. It took 3 hours to put together with help from a friend. The instructions were on an intermediate level. It will require some interpretation and pre-setup. I would recommend writing the numbers of the parts on the back of the packages (nuts and bolts) to make it easier. You will need plenty of room to set this up. This is, at least, a two person job to setup. Once assemble, this bed is, by far, the best bunk bed on Walmart.com.

My 9 year old wanted bunk beds but as my older two had had the "tubular" metal ones in the past, I wasn't thrilled with going that route. So I purchased these since they seem more stylish, though we're a bit more $$ than I had planned to spend. I did need help loading/unloading and getting all the 50 billion parts upstairs! The only problem I had when assembling them was that the part "H" with the label was supposed to attach to post B. but when I assembled it as pictured, the ladder wouldn't connect properly because the hole was nearer to post A. So I switched it to the opposite side and it worked fine. Beware that the pic on the site shows the ladders in the back but the instructions show them in the front, and I followed them not realizing this. Kinda close to the ceiling fan now, so we have to move them away from the end wall do he can use that ladder - I don't really want to take the time right now to take those bottom pieces off and switch them to the rear. I also bought the $159 futon mattress and I am very happy with it! It is very comfortable to sit and sleep on! And I don't notice any shaking or squeaking at all with the beds - seems very well made (except for that label problem). I highly recommend!
