About the Album

If extreme metal existed back in the days of Vikings, Sweden's Amon Amarth would undoubtedly be the musical choice of vessels sailing rough and treacherous seas. And on the seventh full-length studio effort overall by the quintet, Amon Amarth sticks closely to the same sound and approach that got them this far in the first place. But unlike their prior studio efforts, several renowned names within the metal community drop by to lend a heavy hand, including Entombed vocalist Lars-Goran Petrov on "Guardians of Asgaard." Children of Bodom guitarist Roope Latvala provides a guitar solo on the title track, while Apocalyptica is heard on "Live for the Kill." As evidenced by such ditties as "Varyags of Miklagaard" and "Tattered Banners and Bloody Flags" (how's that for two snappy song titles?!), technically demanding musicality, Godzilla-like growls, and rhythms/tempos compared to horses galloping into war are all proudly on display throughout Twilight of the Thunder God. I bet this is the type of music that YouTube's infamous Techno Viking listens to while getting ready for his next street festival dance. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide

Customer Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5★ by 2reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by A Must Own for Metal Fans If you enjoy Extreme Metal, Death Metal, ext, Twilight of the Thunder God is an album i would highly recommend! Sweden has been known for its Death Metal, and Amon Amarth is no exception to that. Seven albums into their career, the viking themed metal band shows no signs of letting up anytime soon. The album kicks off with the fast paced title track, a track guaranteed to get any heavy metal fan to headbang! this track features a guitar solo by finnish guitarist Roope Latvala, known for his role in the band Stone, and Children of Bodom. Each track on this album has amazing musicicanship, and is well put together heavy metal. Track 3 features Lars Göran Petrov, best known from Entombed of sweden, and Track 9 features Finnish cello metal band Apocalyptica. Most People will never find out heavy metal's strong conncetion with classical music, but Amon Amarth and Apocalyptica bring the 2 together in the one of the most heavy metal amazing songs, its amazing to hear the cellos blend in with the metal. the album ends on a very strong note with the song "Embarce the Endless Ocean" this song is very strong, yet not as fast paced as some of the other songs. Overall this album has a fiamilar sound to bigtime Amon Amarth fans, yet stands out from the rest of their discography as their strongest so far!Amon Amarth is one of those bands you have to see live to capture the true energy of one of their stage shows, but the DVD is a nice look in to one of there live performances. The show recored on a tour in support of their 2006 release "With Oden on Our Side" and contains a some of there best tracks live. The DVD was a good add-on to the CD release 12/25/2009
