I bought this 6.5-quart dutch oven in the green on March 21, 2012 and today, April 15th is my first time using it. I had it for less than four weeks. While I was heating it with oil at medium heat on the stove, the porcelain enamel came off. The oil was popping inside the pot so I thought I didn't wipe it dry well and I looked inside the pot and it was the white porcelain enamel. Good thing I haven't put any food in it yet. For the value and size, I'd expect this iron cast dutch oven will last for awhile and I guess not. I'm very disappointed. Hopefully Walmart will give me a refund.

This is the best deal I could find on one this size. Truly does compare to the high-dollar ones, works just as well. I saw where some reviewers don't like the plastic knob, but it says it's good for u to 300 degrees, so I don't have a problem with it. The beautiful red color even makes the food look prettier.

My fancy French one disappeared during my move and I orded this last week. I received the triple boxed beautiful green monster yesterday and immediately went into chicken and dumpling mode. I love it and it's weight, the way it browns, stews, and looks beautiful doing it. I was lucky and got mine on sale for $39.00. Woo hoo!

Although this was recommended in a leading cookbook, this product was sadly assembled. I used it TWICE before there was a chip in the bottom of the pan and 'crazing', the crackle look appeared. This is a result of the finish not being done correctly. The knob was even assembled crooked. All of these resulted in me returning the item. Also, you have to season the pan's lip and lid, something you really shouldn't have to do with enameled cast iron. Among the cheapest in its class, I can honestly say - SAVE YOUR MONEY. By the time I returned this, I wish I had just bought the good one to begin with. Yes, Chantal, Staub or Le Creuset are $200 or so, but you can find sales and really screaming deals in Outlet stores. I did not abuse this pot, like I said, I only used it twice, over low heat. I enjoyed it enough to buy the higher quality. Even though I ordered this from site to store, the store refunded my money with no hassle. Live and learn; or better yet; BUY THE BEST AND CRY ONCE!

When I first got this I thought wow it is heavy.. But after using it for a few weeks I find myself using it more and more often... I have made green beans picked from my garden with it and they turned out great. I have made ham and cabbage with it.. My next thing to try is making a roast in the oven. I believe in long and slow. So the roast will be cooked at 300 * for longer time. I want the meat to fall apart... I like it so well that I gave the other one I bought to my daughter in law and she is gonna try and cook a roast in the oven with it. I am waiting for her opinion of it.. will update when she does.. I would recommend you buy this for a variety of reasons.. I have a burner on my grill and can cook on it with this... I have been very careful not to use to high of a heat on this. I try to keep my heat on medium to low. Once it gets heated up it stays the temp and it is even which is what I wanted... thanks walmart for the great product and the fantastic price...

This is the third Tramontina Dutch Oven I've purchased from either Walmart or Sam's Club. I have it in the dark blue, the gray, and now in purple. I specifically bought this one to give to my daughter-in-law for Christmas because she likes purple and she keeps borrowing mine! This pan is very heavy as you would expect a cast iron pan to be. It is great for stewing, braising, baking and even just soups on top of the stove. My favorite recipe I use it for is a chicken pot pie that starts off on the stove top and then you put drop biscuits on top and pot it in the oven for the last half hour. I like the versatility of cooking on the stovetop and in the oven without changing pans. Clean up is easy too. It washes clean with soap and water and if any discoloration is left I just use a Magic Eraser to remove it. I can't say enough good things about my Tramontina Dutch Ovens and can't wait to see my daughter-in-law's face when I give her the purple one!

If you want a coated, cast iron Dutch Oven and don't want to spend a lot of $$ (compared to others on the market), this product may be for you. In terms of cooking, one cast iron oven, regardless of what you pay, is as good as another in terms of results. The things to consider, however, are weight, the handles (easy to grasp with gloves on) and the appearance. Weight: this oven is very heavy compared to the more expensive ones. Appearance: the oven looks okay, however, the finish of the oven turned opaque after one use (i.e. oddly, only the lid). This does not impact the food quality, it just looks bad. Handles: compared to more expensive ovens, the handles are not great. The side handles are too small and the handle on the lid is already loose and will not stay tight. Should you buy this? It is up to you. Will I keep it? Yes. Would I buy it again? No.

I've delayed my rating until using the dutch oven a few times. It performs as expected, takes a while to reach temperature for browning, etc., retains heat well. The interior is not as smooth as it should be, the enamel looks as if it was globbed on with an overloaded brush. It is not as good as my stainless All-Clad large stewing pot or "dutch oven". I think a better investment would be the All-Clad pans for a lifetime of good use, and is much easier to handle and clean. I also bought the large Tramontina 4 qt Braiser. It has a 12 inch outside dimension, the side is sloped, so the bottom cooking surface is only 9 1/2 inches. Even though the braiser looks quite large, actually it isn't large enough to cook 6 pork chops, (crouds 4) or nice size hamburger patties. The sloped side lets grease splatter all over the cooktop, making a really big mess to clean up. I've been cooking for over 60 years, so my adivse is to save up your money, buy the stainless All-Clad, or another brand of heavy duty stainless that will last you a life time of good cooking.

Fantastic! Use and care: hand wash FYI ~ Although does not require seasoning because it has gorgeous enamel, season rim and cover rim with cooking oil where cast iron is exposed (recommended). Use silicone, wood, bamboo or nylon utensils for cooking- metal ones are too sharp will possibly damage cooking surface- and void warranty. Enamel surfaces are not suitable for dry cooking! Add liquid, butter or oil to bottom prior to cooking! ON ceramic or glass top stoves a gradual low to medium heat setting is best! Including frying and searing high heat is not best! And always lift to move not slide! Let COOL before you clean so no sudden temp change! You do not want to damage enamel - Clean with nylon or soft abrasive pads or brushes! Easy to clean! Hot soapy water - Oven use No microwave use No freezer use

I decided to give Tramotina a try after reading about it in Cooks Illustrated Magazine and I couldn't be more pleased! I find that it is very comparable to Le Creuset and Lodge. Yes, it's heavy...but it's no more heavy than other cast iron pieces I own. I have a ceramic cooktop and haven't had any problems browning on the stovetop before going into the oven. I did purchase a metal knob from Le Creuset (available at Amazon, LeCreuset and other online retailers) to replace the plastic knob. Oddly enough, I've done this for some of my Le Creuset pieces that also came with plastic (or what they call phenolic) knobs. I find cleaning it to be a breeze (a little bit of Bar Keepers Friend powdered cleanser works great on tough spots). I did site to store shipping and it arrived in perfect condition. I look forward to many years of use!

    • A. This Tramontina 6.5 Qt Enameled Round Dutch Oven is made in China. Although it is made in China, you will find the quality and performance to be exceptional. Tramontina requires its plant in China to follow the same strict regulations, processes and quality guidelines that their plants in the USA and Brazil use to manufacture cookware, and this item is covered with a Lifetime Warranty.
