I recently bought this phone for a spare as I was running out of minutes on my Verizon high priced plan, and I love it!! The sound is clear, texting is easy, battery life is long, and the very nice guy at Walmart in Jerome (Jeff) set the whole process up for me. He should get a raise. Love this phone. I will most likely use this one for my primary phone.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Marjalaine I can't believe more people aren't buying these phones up! I mean LOOK AT THE PRICE!! My husband and I both have one and we both are so thrilled we can now join all our texting loved ones. We take alot of pictures, too.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Noctraptor Great value for the price.
As far as tracphones go this is one of the better ones I've tried. The keyboard makes txting quick and easy. Its got a basic web browser, it lets your down load ringtones, wallpapers, apps and games. Its java based so most of the apps and games are all pretty out dated cheesy type stuff but again for the price you'd be hard pressed to do better.
It comes with a 4 gig micro SD card that makes transferring files to and from the phone a snap.
The battery lasts me about 3 days on a full charge.
One thing I will tell you about this phone is that most of the features that the neater apps use such as access to the camera for QR code readers or Gps apps will not function on this phone.
Other wise If your in the market for some thing cheap, and functions well you really cant go wrong with this phone.
Rated 5 out of 5 by leeburger love the keyboard texting
phone is great. all kinds of features, nice size picture display, and keyboard for texting is so much better than counting letters on the old phone. price is right and quality is great. recommend highly!
Rated 5 out of 5 by wolverinetodd People should learn to use the "Lock" feature.
In reading the reviews for this phone, I notice that the biggest complaint is that the Browser button is in a bad location and that it gets launched rather easily when removing the phone from the owner's pocket or purse. My suggestion to them is to read the instruction booklet that was included and learn to press the "Lock" feature at the very bottom of the keypad, just two buttons to the left from the space bar. When not locked, this is the button you can press to access texting/calling instantly or, if you depress the button for a few seconds, it locks the keypad so you don't accidentally dial or launch, ready for it, the Browser button. I'm just amazed at how many people are ignorant of this feature.
Rated 5 out of 5 by beadr Nice phone for the price
I found that I did not need a phone with unlimited minutes or texting. My contract had expired and I was looking for a prepaid phone. I ordered this phone online and it came quicker than expected. It was easy to port my old phone # and set it up to use. The only feature that is not quite up to par is the speakerphone. I can't seem to get it to work. I have used the phone for about 2 weeks now and find that I use the text more than voice-Overall I am happy with the purchase.
Rated 5 out of 5 by needlepullingthread Great Pay-as-you-go Phone!
Worth every penny! I have had a lot of TracFones, and by far this one gets the best reception of them all.
Rated 5 out of 5 by izshe Was a nice phone. I put my zip code in on Walmart website, to make sure I could use it at home. When I tried to activate it, it was not useable in my area.
Walmart did give me a full refund, but they should update their website to be correct.
Rated 5 out of 5 by t8dgr81 Great Deal to Replace Our Home Phone!
This Tracfone replaced our home phone at 100 dollars a year. The reception is great and we have double minutes for life with 300 bonus minutes through a promo code. Perfect for what we needed as a home phone. I now feel secure that our kids can call us if there is a sitter and they need us for something. Getting the phone ported over was easy when I contacted customer service. Great phone! Great deal!
Rated 4 out of 5 by roundleif I really like the phone.
I love the phone. Only problem is I can't keep it in my pocket or it dial's itself.
Rated 4 out of 5 by MimiCampbell Great phone for the $$
I had a contract phone for many years & the price for service just kept going up,up,up! My husband & I decided to try the tracphone because the price was so good & you choose how many minutes you need for a certain time period. My phone came with double minutes for life which means if I buy 60 minutes, I get 120. I am not a heavy phone user so it is perfect for me. Great deal. The phone itself has worked great & I would definitely recommend it to those on a budget who don't live on the phone!

So far very happy with this phone. I'st even is a good MP3 player
Rated 4 out of 5 by Dublene Excellent phone for the price
This is my third tracfone. I bought it because it was difficult for me to text on my previous tracfone. Yes, at my age I do text. You have to program your numbers from the old phone to the new one. It is not done automatically. Transferring the minutes from my old phone to the new phone was not a good experience. I tried to do it on line but that did not work. I had to call and, unfortunately, I had a difficult time understanding the person on the other end of the phone. There are many, many numbers you have to insert in the phone.. I would still recommend this phone. I do not want a monthly bill for a cell phone and that's the reason I use tracfone. It covers all the areas where I place calls.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Pappaw Great phone with one flaw
This is a great phone that has one glaring flaw. That flaw is that the browser button cannot be removed or hidden. Most people that use a Tracfone are not going to use their minutes to browse the web. Yet Tracfone saw fit to put the browser button in a location that makes it easy to accidentally hit that button which will put you online and waste minutes and there is no way to hide or remove it. I have lost over 30 minutes due to this. Other than this I love the phone. Battery life is great, texting is very easy with the keypad, and all other features of the phone are outstanding. I have nothing but praise for this phone minus the one flaw.
Rated 4 out of 5 by pd40 I love this phone. I didn't use my phone much but the new keypad makes it easy. I text more which saves minutes. I bought the memory card so I can download to it also. I love the prepaid service. I buy online and you can buy 1500 min for $199 which doubles to 3000 and 1 yr sevice time. This lasts me all year. I know a lot of people who wished they only paid $200 a yr for cell service. I have a house phone, an onstar phone came in my car, I can be reached at work for emergencies. I don't need a $100 + plan per month. Tracfone does all I need. I forward my calls from home, when I'm away so I can see who's calling and call back as needed, I can text to save minutes, take pics of things I want to remember, make shopping lists or have them sent straight to my phone, access facebook, ect.
Rated 1 out of 5 by nickJr2nd Browser button steals minutes from you
The browser button is very inconveniently located that you will loose a lot of minutes by accident. Don't buy.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Katheyl Tracfone LG500 Prepaid Camera Phone
Bought January 2012. Nice phone. Great price. Doesn't come with any minutes but does have double minutes for life, so if you buy 60, you get 120 automatically. Camera must be held still. Pictures could be better. All and all a nice phone, many features, including mini movie maker, and you can attach many things, even business cards to text messages or send to emails. I would recommend this phone to a friend.
Rated 5 out of 5 by tesi10 I'm 45 years old and this is my first cell phone. It was easy to learn how to use and I love it!!
Rated 4 out of 5 by ftdrummom I bought this phone for my mom, she loves it! She lives in a semi-rural area and her reception is great. The full keyboard is great for texting, and the camera works very well. All around a very good phone for the price.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Christstar777 well worth your money....
this phone is well worth your money.... it has so many benefits such as keyboard, good color in screen, a music player, and a awesome camera.
Rated 5 out of 5 by JAZZPHOTO Great Phone for price!!
This is my third tracphone. I like being in finacial control of my own cell phone usage!! I have just figured out how to use phone to help me tremendously in my busines! I can do a daily "to do list " and check my daily progress in seconds w/a quick look on my phone at anytime, several times a day -I feel much more organized. Just started using calendar for the 5 or 6 appointments I make per week. Did have a problem w/phone in pocket calling itself, but learned how to lock it in settings section, which stopped the problem. texts are much easier than the earlier style tracfones. Actually for my needs, I am getting Blackberry type usage from this phone-Have also used it while on train and a very long car trip to check my yahoo email on line,Which I admit takes a little bit of work to get on-line.
Rated 4 out of 5 by aca2983 I love it
I've used this phone for a few months now, and I love it. If you don't use a phone a lot, but still want to have a mobile phone, then you should consider a no-contract pre-paid phone. Really good battery life too. If you are technically proficient, you can even find apps and games that will work.
I think a lot of the complaints are overblown:
- if the phone is dialing or browser coming on in your pocket, use the keylock feature:
Settings>Phone>Auto Key Lock
- yes the buttons are small, but they're raised and its not difficult to use. Noticed a lot of the comments about this were female, yet I'm male with med/lg hands and have no prob.
- yes it is easy to accidentally start the browser, but pay attention to what you are doing, use the Key Lock, and if you are quick and hit "end" after you accidentally open the browser, you can close it without getting docked airtime.
- you can move files with a USB cable, just make sure your USB cable works for data and not just for charging.
- you can add a micro SD card, but the limit is 4GB. My Sandisk works fine.
- it is possible to transfer your contacts using Bluetooth, but it takes some practice. I was able to import all my contacts from Gmail, but it took some investigation and I'm technically proficient. It can be done if you look at the data structure of the vcard (.vcf) files. Hint, fill out a blank contact using all the available fields, then export that file and look at it in notepad. That will tell you what the field limitations are.
-haven't used the MP3 player much yet, but it works.
-I use picomail to get mail from 2 yahoo accounts, and a gmail app for a gmail account. If you use the web and mail a lot it will eat up airtime, but its nice that its possible.
- useful info and tips can be found on the website howard forums.
Unfortunately, there isn't much documentation on this phone, and the user guide is very very basic. To do more complex things, you have to be inquisitive and patient. All in all though, for $20 this is a fantastic phone.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Laurencia7 Great Basic Phone! Great Deal!
I have been waiting for a phone like this, that texts and calls for emergencies or social events. I had a cell before but did not know when it needed more money, this one reminds me! My friends kept complaining they could not get ahold of me without one. Plus at 20 bucks for the phone and ten bucks a month plan I can handle that. I only use cell phones when I have to, I hate those others that make people into zombies, and ignore others. Plus they are soooo expensive.
This phone is basic though, so if you want a smart phone go elsewhere. It's like a basic blackberry, full keyboard, great for texting, email function, bluetooth file transfer to other devices and headset, compact design, mp3 player, micro SD memory upgrade, great price (shop around) though it does NOT INCLUDE the 4GB memory card like it says here. I looked in a Walmart store, and the box says "not included" so don't be fooled.
Best part is no contract, no bills if you pay by phone card. The feature I dislike the most is you have to pay for texts both out to someone, and when you read them!! My old phone only charged me if I texted someone, not if I got a text back. It's not a cool feature. Plus the browser button is useless and in a awkward "back button" place. The keyboard is small, so it might be suitable for ladies over men. The menus are kinds cheap looking, and confusing, takes a minute to find the settings, the signal seems good though I have not driven farther out of the area with it yet. Otherwise, I love it.
So if you want a great simple, cheap phone. Get it.
Rated 1 out of 5 by CarbonSkyvane Good product, bad ancilliaries
This is a terrific little phone that ought to offer a huge bang for your cellular buck.
Unfortunately, activation was awkward and time consuming . . . and had to be done over another phone (not this one). While Tracfone claimed activation could be done on line, that turned out to be--how shall we say?--a bit of a fib. Instead, I had to spend a half hour on another phone taking down and entering endless strings of numbers into the new phone. (Make a mistake and you get to start all over again. Fun, indeed, especially with such a cheerful robotic voice doing the talking.)
There is NO documentation included for the phone, just a rudimentary quick-start guide. There is NO user manual available on line either. Not from Lucky-Goldstar. Not from Tracfone. The best you can do is to Google your questions and hope. For example, the promotional and packaging materials boast of a speakerphone. Try to find it. Just try.
As for "double minutes for life," how to get them is another cleverly hidden feature. Still cannot figure that one out. I'll probably be dead before I do.
Walmart should be embarrassed to sell this thing. The physical attributes are only part of the value of a tech item. Without proper documentation, even an iPhone is just another paper weight.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Cindalouw When purchasing this phone the Walmart website said it would work in my area.
Tracfone said no it will not & sent me a phone that will work.
So I purchased a 18 Month Accidental Protection Plan for nothing!!!
Rated 2 out of 5 by ruffiansangel I have owned several tracfones from the very first ones and of all of them, I disliked this one the most. Keyboard is so small it I had to dial 911, I would be in trouble. Also I like the speaker phone and this one doesn't have one. I mean I do have a bluetooth, but sometimes it's not handy. I bought it for the keyboard, but seeing how small it is, it was a waste. But as far as the phone itself, it was okay.
Rated 5 out of 5 by mkh0310 Great gift!
Bought for my 11 year old. Takes wear and tear ....put money on as you wish, no pressure no hassles. Easy to operate! Lots of features!
Rated 2 out of 5 by ProductInnovator One really bad problem obscures the good
This and several of the other LG phones for Tracfone service have one common across all of them... The button to the right of the select button is designed to take you back to the previous screen on most pages (think of it as the ESC button of sorts) except that the home page where you see your minutes remaining uses that key to launch the web browser application.
If you have ever used a blackberry or some of the other smart phones out there you are probably just in the habit of hitting that "Back" button repeatedly until the home screen appears and you don't bother counting or waiting for the screen to update. If you do that with these LG phones you will go back, back, back, browse and the next thing you know you have used up 30sec's of your time because the browser launched and used up time even though you didn't even want the browser.
This phone and most of the other LG's I have tried all do the same stinking thing. I'd look for a non-LG phone as a replacement phone.
Rated 1 out of 5 by EASYDOESIT2565 THE BUTTONS ARE TO SMALL TO SEE AND AS FAR AS INTERNET CAPEABLE, IT'S SO SMALL YOU WOULD NEED A MICROSCOPE TO SEE IT ON THE SCREEN!!
Rated 2 out of 5 by ArtinCT not a bad phone for the price
Nice looking phone, clear menu easy to read. Good volume on audio.
Cannot download photos using a USB cable, Would need an adapter for the micro-sd card to fit in card reader slot on PC.
Would be nice to be able to turn off "Browser" function until needed, Keeps getting hit when taking phone out of carrying case. Cost .5 min's every time.
Would I buy this phone again? No!
