I bought it primarily to be able to transfer my VCR tapes to DVD. It does a beautiful job. Some companies offer this service for $7 or so each, and this will pay for itself in a few weeks. I have over a hundred tapes to convert.

easy to use, one button for copy of VCR tapes to DVD, saved hundreds of dollars copying the family videos to DVD myself. DVD's play on TV and on Computer, Picture Quality with Up-Convert is impressive considering coming from a VCR tape 20yrs old. have not tried Cable/Tv to DVD Recording but expect the Quality to be exceptional. Use an HDMI cable for you Connection. Smart Device stops the VCR if you Fill Up the DVD and then all you need to do is load another DVD and continue again. Menus and titles can be added, Automatic "chapter" is real nice allows you to use the "skip" button to jump ahead on the DVD in 10min increments. You can even control the increment time size. Plays all of my Comerical VCR Tapes with an impressive picture on a High Def Plasma TV. Reasonable Price for a Product to Help Preserve Those Family Movies that cant be replaced.

I owned a Magnavox DVD/VCR recorder before buying this new one made by Toshiba. I am very happy with the new one so far. It is very easy to copy VHS tapes onto DVD's. It takes just one push of the dubbing butting and it goes. Mind you these are tapes that either I or someone else recorded movies on VHS tapes. To my knowledge you cannot copy a copy protected commercially made VHS tape. At least I haven't found a way to do that yet. I wish I could. I have a bunch of old Walt Disney movies on VHS and as most people know the picture is not as good with tape and the quality of the picture gets degraded with age. It would be a lot cheaper for me to copy these movies for my private library rather than to go buy DVD's or purchase each on instant streaming. All blank DVD's seem to work just fine in this one too where as the Magnavox didn't always work with DVD's that were not Magnavox brand. Also had to be certain type for each brand. Don't seem to be having that problem at all with my new Toshiba.

i would like to view and record on both the dvd and vcr. I have a Toshiba LED TV

    • If you have a working VCR, you can connect it to the back of this Toshiba combo to record TV shows. First, connect your antenna to the coax antenna input of the VCR. Connect RCA cables (yellow, red, white) from the output of the VCR to the matching input jacks on the back of the Toshiba unit. Put the input source on the Toshiba remote to rear input that the VCR is plugged into. Whatever channel you dial up on the VCR will feed into the Toshiba unit's rear input position. Now you can insert your blank tape or blank DVD into the Toshiba machine and record the channel the external VCR is tuned to. This way, the VCR you have connected to the Toshiba machine acts as a cable box.

    • This model does not have a tuner. It does internal VHS to DVD and vice versa and will record from an external source such as a digital cam ( it has a mini usb connector in front pront panel and a set of input connectors for S Video and analog video/Audio. There are rear connectors for routing the Video/Audio to a Tv or monitor..

    • This model does not have a tuner. To record TV programs, you'll have to have a cable or satellite box with a tuner. The models Toshiba sold with tuners were discontinued about two years ago.
