It's not your average USB cable. One end should plug into your computer, but the other end will probably only work with the drive itself. Personally I'd go with a different brand altogether. Read my review.

great hard drive for an illiterate computer user

Bought two of these for my iMac had to reformat that took less than a minute. I paid less than what is listed online ($30.00 each). My local Walmart has these in their clearance section. If you see them at $30 each you need to buy them.

Excellent

When my old external hard drive died, I bought this to replace it. They've really improved backup drives since I bought my old one -- this one truly is "plug and play". What I really like about it - other than its ease of use - is that I can backup both my desktop data and my laptop data to the same drive. I would absolutely recommend this product.

Quick, easy backup

In my years using external devices on computer I have had the usual successes and failures and likes and dislikes. This Toshiba product is the best I have used: fast, easy to use, small and light all of which I wanted for my new ultrabook when I travel and need extra memory capacity. I am impressed. I could not have found a better combination. Even my wife likes it and she hates using external devices because they are often complicated beyond what she is willing to accept. Toshiba is simple and fast. I love it!

Toshiba Auto Backup new best friend

The built-in backup software is not as good as I expected. It does not give a lot of options and keeps "complaining" about the size of the names of my files. Otherwise, it is a great external drive, and I would definitely recommend it, especially for making sure your work files do not get lost should your computer get fried or stolen...

Very practical and portable.

I ordered this drive wanting to back up my PC and it was so simple to use.. Just plug it in and it automatically installed the needed drivers and software. Just had to select the kind of backup I wanted and the software took care of the rest. Not only that but I had some files on my old PC that I backed up and wanted to move to my new PC and that restore process to the new PC was just as simple as backing up. Great product Highly recommend it.

This drive worked great and was so simple

It works great, it holds enough information to make me feel safe, if I get a virus or my hard drive crashes I can retrieve all my information and restore it safely.

Great backup drive for the price

A lot of complaints were listed for having to setup the hard drive for automatic backups. We bought this as a Christmas present for our parents' MacBook. We simply plugged it in, then flipped the Time Machine switch from off to on. It formatted the drive and did all the backup by itself. In the future, all they'll have to do it plug in the drive and Time Machine will do the rest. No headache whatsoever.

Setup is super easy on a Mac

Walmart shipped the backup hard drive in good time. When I got it I tried to use it and I could not find an execute file. I tried to call Toshiba for help and they do not provide help at all. I finally gave up and returned the Toshiba hard drive to Walmart and bought a Western Digital that worked.

the first one I ordered you couldn't get to the screen where backup & restore was launched from,it was advertised to start backup on its own (not true), also this item was advertised as being the greatest thing going(also not true),I returned this item thinking it was damaged in transit or something of that nature , the replacement would launch backup & restore screen, it already had a check in every section that the item could restore witch meant all information in computer witch is exactly what I wanted, on section was for e-mail witch was checked,"didnt" backup any e-mail,some stuff was backed up but not all that was supposed to be, sent item back and got refund, very disappointed!!!!!!!
