Review by Library Journal (2012-12-01)

This latest entry in the best-selling author's "Dark Hunter" series presents the story of Ren Waya, the son of a goddess/demon, who once released horrendous evil into the world. Kateri Avani is unaware that she is the only person who can reset the gates to other worlds and stop the worst of the evils from entering our realm. Throughout her life, she has had disturbing dreams, including one about a gorgeous man who always kills her.

When Kateri meets Ren, she -realizes he is the man from the dreams, and each must trust the other to save the world. A departure from the typical series entry, this tale focuses on Maya and American Indian folklore and is told through a significant number of flashbacks and memories, which can be hard to follow. Award-winning narrator Holter Graham has performed the series for a number of years and is a perfect match for the material, distinctly conveying a wide range of voices.

Verdict: While not the strongest of the bunch, this is sure to be popular with Kenyon's many fans.

Book description

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon comes the next thrilling installment in her blockbuster Dark-Hunter series

The Mayans aren’t the only ones with a 2012 prophecy…

Long before recorded history, there was a Keetoowah warrior so feared that everyone trembled before his wrath. Only a brutal betrayal by the one closest to him could defeat him. But not even death was the end of a man so strong.

The Time Untime approaches…

Kateri Avani has been plagued her entire life with dreams she doesn’t understand. Images of places she’s never been and of a man she’s never seen. Her quest for answers has driven her to Las Vegas where she hopes to finally silence the demons in her mind.

What she never anticipates is coming face to face with the warrior who has haunted her her entire life. One who belongs to a world the scientist in her refuses to believe is real.

Ren Waya came back from the dead to keep the prophecy he began from coming true and ending the world. For thousands of years, he has fought the same evil that once possessed him. But now that evil has found the one person he can’t fight. The one person who, against his will, holds the most sacred part of him.

His heart.

But if he doesn’t kill Kateri, the deadliest of evils will reemerge and destroy everyone else on the planet. It was a sacrifice he made once.

Will he be able to make it again?

Customer Product Reviews

Rated 3.5 out of 5★ by 2reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by On par with Kenyon's writing, enjoyable, lovable Overall is on par with Kenyon's style of writing. The story further delved into a new branch of mythology, Cherokee, instead of usual Greek mythology though still referenced Greek. The heroine was different from Kenyon's basic heroine in a subtle way, she was still corky, witty, smart, strong willed and lovable. The hero was more on par with Kenyon's basic hero but leaned more into unique in a way that Acheron does. She story line was engaging and true to Mayan mythology at the same time. To be honest, and slightly girlie, one part of the book had my crying hysterically, not just teared up at an emotional part but literally blubbering. It was different story yet stayed true to the Dark Hunters that we fans have grown to love so much. Recommended to any true fan. Enjoy, (I think you will). 09/06/2012
Rated 2 out of 5★ by I have read all the Dark Hunter stories very disappointed in this one. I could not get into this story it was as if I had never read any of the story lines. 08/26/2012
