About this item

Thor: God of Thunder takes players through a spectacular, epic-scale original third-person adventure for which Eisner Award-winning writer and lead Thor comic book author Matt Fraction served as story consultant. In the game, Thor battles through numerous worlds of Norse mythology to overcome monstrous foes lifted from the pages of the comics including Ulik, Ymir, and Surtur in conflicts that span realms ranging from primal worlds of fire and ice to extraordinary planets inhabited by Frost Giants, Trolls, and other monstrous denizens. Players will wield the iconic Mjlnir, Thors legendary hammer, to fight enemies on an immense scale while controlling the elemental storm powers of lightning, thunder, and wind to vanquish foes.

  • Hammer of the Gods: Feel the surging power of a mythological Super Hero as you devastate multiple enemies with melee combo attacks and hammer throws, utilizing Thors elemental storm powers of thunder, lightning and wind.
  • Epic Enemies: Take on an array of titanic enemies dozens of feet tall weighing over 20 tons using multiple strategies including grappling, vaulting, and elemental attacks.
  • Level Up: Acquire new abilities, powers, and weapon upgrades as Thor earns Valor points through his exploits.
  • Immortal Heritage: Step into the role of the son of Odin, Asgards divine ruler, wielding the mighty hammer Mjolnir that gives you control of elemental powers.
  • Original Storyline: Delve deeper into the heroic tales of the Thor universe with an original story created specifically for the video game.
  • Comic Book Icon: Brought to the Marvel Universe by Stan Lee and penciled by noted artist Jack Kirby, Thor first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1962 and has since appeared in comics (solo and with the Avengers), TV, and now in film and his first video game.
  • ESRB Rating: TEEN with Violence

Critics didn't like this game. I did. I received this game for Christmas for the PS3. I used to play video games a lot years ago. And I do admit that I don't play all that much now. But Thor God Of Thunder has proven that video games can be fun. The graphics are satisfactory, not Final Fantasy XIII, but very good nonetheless. The story is compelling. And the action is top notch. If you happen to be a fan of Thor, then this game is a must. I did try God Of War III, which critics loved. I actually got to try it for free. I wasn't crazy about the game. I found Thor to be more the better of the two. I definitely recommend Thor God Of Thunder for the PS3. I assume the game is the same for the X360.

Disappointed

Ultimately disappointed. I waited and waited for this game to go down in price, and once it became reasonable ($20 in store), I picked it up. I couldn't wait to play it. And I was disappointed to find out that I've played this game before. It is a exact replica of the game Ghost Rider. Thor goes around smashing people with his hammer and throwing his hammer at these blue goblin looking creatures (Ghost Rider used his chain to whip at evil creatures). Once the goblin creatures have been killed, lights appear where their body was and when you collect them, you get points used to help level up Thor (same as Ghost Rider, except the power ups for Thor and Ghost Rider are different). The progress through the level is the same, defeat about 20 level 1 creatures, 5 level 2 creatures, maybe 1 or 2 of these big level 3 creatures, and then the boss of the level. No creativity was put into the game, and the graphics remind me of a 2003-2004 Playstation 2 game (Probably compare to the graphics of Star Wars III : Revenge of the Sith or TimeSplitters 2). The hands are bigger than the character's heads. And trying to put emotion into these lifeless characters seemed too hard. So, to wrap up the negatives, it's a straight duplicate of Ghost Rider except set in the Thor comic world and didn't have Sam Elliott narrating, the graphics are very very poor for a PS3 game, and the creativity level was set at the lowest of bars. Now, the positive. The score behind the game is very beautiful and really gets you in the mood. Who Should Play This Game : Kids between 7-14. They would love this for a gift (do not worry about the T for teen rating, the max the "violence" gets is Thor smashing people with his hammer, and when the character dies he falls over dead and blows up like you just blew up a LEGO set, no blood and guts). Anyone over the age of 14 may find this to be a repetitive format amongst certain video games. Not for the experienced gamer, not challenging enough. If you're looking for something for someone over the age of 14, I would suggest looking in to Call of Duty : Black Ops or Army of Two, something with more bang, unless the person REALLY wants this. I would not recommend this to a friend. And even at $20, in my opinion, it's too much for the game.
