I bought this purifier after finding out that I had a viral infection in my chest. I was having difficulty breathing and was sensitive to everything around me. Immedialtely after I got it home, I turned it on in my bedroom and within an hour the air quality was outstanding! The air felt lighter, cleaner and breathing was so much easier. I purchased another one for a smaller room where my dogs sleep and again, within a short time, the air was the same. No sensitivity or a feeling of irritation to my chest. I used the UV light and had them run on high for the first 24 hours and after that I turned them down to low. These air purifiers are the real deal and ones that you can actually notice. There are no filters to buy, the noise they make is hardly noticeable and THEY WORK! I'm going to purchased a larger one for my living room area to complete the air filtration throughout my home. I've used pricey air purifiers in the past, but only to end up throwing them out due to the high cost of filters, if they were still in stock and because they did not work. My breathing is 99 percent better and you can FEEL the difference in the air. This is a product that works and does what it says it will do. The UV Light is a bonus too. I feel very confident knowing that any germs or viruses coming into my home will not have a chance to affect my family. We're all breathing easier thanks to Therapure!

This is a nice quiet machine. I smoke and the filter that is in it needs a carbon filter like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Universal-Air-Filter/870796 I bought the carbon and cut it to size with scissors. It will protect the expensive filter too.

The filter isn't really cleanable or permanent as they say it is. You can not wash the filter but only vacuum clean it which doesn't really clean it all that well. After a few months it needs replacing and and they cost about $20 to replace.

I was looking for an air purifier with a true hepa filter and a UV light to kill viruses and mold spores. This unit is reasonably priced compared to the other air purifiers available. It does make the air smell fresher however I was hoping it would reduce more of my stuffiness at night. I probably should have bought the larger unit however. It is quiet and only a small blue light illuminates so it doesn't distract you from sleeping. I do wish it came with a carbon filter in front of the hepa one but there is room to add one if needed. I've only owned it a week but so far have been happy with it. I would recommend this for an office or small bedroom. Go with the larger unit for an extra $20 if you are unsure.

    • A. Simply put, yes it is suppose to. Copied from their site: ..."TheraPure takes the air in a room and remove up to 99% of the airborne particulates down to 2 microns (dust, cigarette and cigar smoke, mold spores, pollen, vehicle exhaust from outside, cooking and bathroom odors, pet dander, etc.) in the air, releasing clean, healthy, breathable air in its place. Many of the best ones (including the TheraPure) also act as a germicidal air purifier. A germicidal air purifier typically contains a UV lamp that kills germs and bacteria upon contact as air moves through the unit and is released back into the room. A germicidal air purifier can be useful in reducing the spread of colds and other common communicable illnesses. (Of course, no germicidal air purifier can guarantee that you'll never, ever get another cold! That would be impossible.)" Source: http://www.therapureair.com/germicidal-air-purifier/

    • A. If you live in the south it could cause mold. This machine goes thru all 9 gallons of water in a 24 hour period depending on your setting. I took mine back because of too much moisture.I bought it to clear smoke so it got used all the time, it worked for that but it also made my house juicey.

What is life expency of air purfier?

    • A. Therapure fibs when they say the filter is permanent. I am 3 to 4 months in to using mine and find I need to purchase a new filter (which I most likely will not). They don't tell us on the box either that you can not WASH the filter but you can vacuum clean it, which doesn't really actually clean it very well. It's also a HEPA style filter (so I'm guessing it's not really HEPA to begin with).

    • A. The UV lamp needs to be replaced after about 18 months. Never need to replace the HEPA filter. Not sure of its life expectancy. You'd have to check into the track record of the products of the company that makes it-- by Envion

    • A. I use a narrow hose from my vacuum cleaner weekly or so. I have also blown it out with an air hose, or lightly tapped it out outside to beat the dust out (might break filter though). Mine has turned gray, I've even tried soaking it in bleach to get it white again. I ordered more from the company, I reckon after about a year or two they do need to be replaced. Filters are $10 each, no shipping charge from Therapure.
