Seventeen year old Veronica "Ronnie" Miller's life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. Three years later, she remains angry and alientated from her parents, especially her father...until her mother decides it would be in everyone's best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him. Ronnie's father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church. The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story of love on many levels--first love, love between parents and children -- that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that love can break our hearts...and heal them.

About the author

Biography of Sparks, Nicholas

Nicholas Sparks was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on New Year's Eve, 1965. As a child, he lived in Minnesota, Los Angeles, and Grand Island, Nebraska, finally settling in Fair Oaks, California when he was eight. In 1984, he received a full scholarship to run track and field for the University of Notre Dame. Sparks wrote one of his best-known stories, The Notebook, over a period of six months at age 28. It was published in 1996 and spent 56 weeks on the New York Times hardcover best-seller list followed by another 54 weeks on the paperback list.

Sparks has had a string of New York Times bestsellers including: A Walk to Remember, Message in a Bottle, The Rescue, A Bend in the Road, Nights in Rodanthe, The Guardian, The Wedding, True Believer and its sequel, At First Sight, Dear John, The Last Song, Safe Haven and The Best of Me. Safe Haven became his eighth film adaptation. Sparks is involved in many local and national charities, and is a major contributor to the Creative Writing Program (MFA) at the University of Notre Dame, where he provides scholarships, internships, and a fellowship annually. Along with his wife, he founded The Epiphany School in New Bern, North Carolina and the Nicholas Sparks Foundation.

Reviews

Review by Library Journal (2010-01-01)

This 14th novel from Sparks (www.-nicholassparks.com)-following The Lucky One (2008) and written as the basis of an April 2010 Disney film adaptation starring Miley Cyrus-is told from several points of view but centers mostly on gifted 17-year-old musician Ronnie. Ronnie resents her parents' divorce but learns much about love after spending an unforgettable summer with her father in Wilmington, NC. There is the requisite tearjerker plot twist, with Ronnie ultimately finding her way back to her music. Actors Pepper Binkley and Scott Sowers convincingly narrate the gender-appropriate chapters. Demand will be high for this title, sure to satisfy Sparks's many fans.

Customer Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5★ by 12reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Incredible Story by Nicholas Sparks. I bought this book not long after it came out, and I fell in love. I have read it two or three times when I've found the urge to read and both times I have read it all within a day. It's a very heart warming story and definitely a tear jerker. It's definitely one of those stories that makes you think about life. By far one of the best by Nicholas Sparks. 12/06/2010
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Amazing!!! This is the second book I read from this author the first one was Dear John. This is a good book laughed and I cried. It was fun to read I think I finished this book in 5 days or less, so I was really into it, plus I'm a fast reader. The movie was pretty good but not as good as this book. This is a good holiday gift to a person who loves to read and for yourself. Happy Holidays. 12/23/2010
