    About this item

The First Years Hands Free Gate is designed to help keep children confined to a safe area in your home. It has a foot pedal so you can open it when you are carrying a child or a bulky item such as a full laundry basket. Simply press the foot pedal and bump the knee plate to open the gate. A latch clicks to signify when the gate is securely closed. This First Years baby gate can swing open in either direction. While it is easy for adults to use, it cannot be opened by young children. This baby safety gate stands 30" tall and fits most standard door frames. Additional extensions are sold separately. The First Years Hands Free Gate also features pressure mounts that are designed not to mark up or damage your doorway or wall. It is made of sturdy metal and comes in an attractive white color that can work with just about any décor. This innovative baby gate would make a great baby shower gift. It can also be used for pets.

    Awesome Gate

I got this one and the Dream Baby swing gate in black. I needed 2 gates but didn't know which to get so got both and figured I'd keep one and exchange the other for another like the one I kept but I ended up keeping both. This one is truly handsfree and I have it in the doorway of my 17month old's room. He can't climb it and can't open and thats good enough for me. Its super easy to open, just push down on the pedal and pull or push the gate. It only comes in white though. Besides that, its awesome. Value gets 4 stars since I didn't really shop around. Durability, 4 stars since I haven't had it long and features, 4 stars because it doesn't have anything special. Its super easy to set up, I didn't even need the instructions but then I'm forever putting stuff together so it was just common sense for me. I would recommend this to anyone with kids or pets. Its low though so if you're really tall or have acrobatic pets, you may want a taller gate. Personally I love it and will most likely get more for other areas of the house.

Stay away from the Regalo easy step. We picked up the The First Years - Hands Free Gate as a replacement to flimsy easy step gate. It costs a little more and the extension is sold separate but it is secure and durable. You get what you pay for and with The First Years - Hands Free Gate you are paying for better quality and security for your child

I bought this gate because my brother & sister-in-law recommended it. We are ordering another one for another doorway. Love the hands-free feature.

    • Hard to do but I suppose a very determined large dog might try. Dogs are very smart. You are alpha and have to teach dog NOT to touch the gate if you have this concern. Its your gate, not the dogs. Most dogs do not have a clue how to open this gate.

    • I don't think so. It takes a certain amount of foot pressure. I don't think paw pressure is enough to open it since their weight is distributed differently than a humans.

    • I don't think so. Our 2 year old stands/jumps on the foot peddle and can't open it

    • I don't think so - I don't have any pets, but it requires my full weight practically to open. The pedal is also just about the size of the ball of my foot, so your dog would have to come down on it perfectly WHILE pushing open the gate.

    • it would be very unlikely for a dog to be able to open this gate by jumping on the pedal. The release is outfitted with spring tension. It is actually difficult to open if you are not standing up and putting all of our wieght on it.

    • Maybe if you walk on your hands, you could open it with your hands, but since the foot pedal is at the bottom of the gate, it is much easier to use your foot especially since you will many times have your hands full of stuff when opening and closing it.

    • I only use this by hands, I didn't know their was a foot pedal option.

    • If you want to bend down and press down on the pedal with your hand real hard. The purpose of this gate is because it is hands free.

    • It only uses a foot pedal. It's so easy, you don't need to use hands, If you are in a wheel chair, or do not have the use of your feet from any reason, this is not the gate for you.

    • It only opens with the foot pedal, which works smoothly.

    • You people must not be reading the description on this product because it says: "Foot-pedal operated." and that is how you open and close it unless you do it sitting on the floor becasue there is no HANDLE on the top!
