James Patterson was born in Newburgh, New York, on March 22, 1947. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1969 and received a M. A. from Vanderbilt University in 1970. His first novel, The Thomas Berryman Number, was written while he was working in a mental institution and was rejected by 26 publishers before being published and winning the Edgar Award for Best First Mystery. He is best known as the creator of Alex Cross, the police psychologist hero of such novels as Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls.
Cross has been portrayed on the silver screen by Morgan Freeman. He also writes the Women's Murder Club series, as well as the Maximum Ride series, Daniel X series, the Witch and Wizard series, and the Middle School series for children. He has won numerous awards including the BCA Mystery Guild's Thriller of the Year, the International Thriller of the Year award, and the Reader's Digest Reader's Choice Award. He also made The New York Times Best Seller List for 2012 with his title I Funny: A Middle School Story and again in 2013 with his title's Middle School: Get Me Out of Here! and 12th of Never.
Maxine Paetro is a novelist and a journalist. From 1975 through 1987 she was a recruiter and EVP creative department manager at several large New York City advertising agencies. In 1979 Paetro published her first book---How to Put Your Book Together and Get a Job in Advertising---which received its 4th revision in August 2010. She has co-authored many books with James Patterson for the New York Times bestselling Women's Murder Club Series, beginning with the fourth book, The 4th of July. Maxine Paetro's title 11th Hour with James Patterson made The New York Times Best Seller List for 2012. Also, in 2013 her title 12th of Never with James Patterson made the New York Times Best Seller List.
A vicious and brutal murder on a San Francisco ferry kicks off this sixth entry of Patterson and Paetro's "Women's Murder Club" series. One of the club members is seriously injured in the random shooting, and Lt. Lindsay Boxer is determined to find the deranged gunman. Her newly acquired title is, however, short-lived; the police brass decide that she is better off as a sergeant working the city's mean streets.
Lindsay's personal life is just as chaotic; she is forced to make a tough choice about her romance with a federal agent. There is a lot to like in this mystery: well-defined characters, a creepy villain, and crackling courtroom drama. Mingling with the solid police procedural is dialog that just doesn't seem to ring true and a wordiness that weighs down the action. Still, there are enough customers who faithfully read everything Patterson produces, and the success of the TV drama Women's Murder Club will make this a popular item in all libraries. Narrator Carolyn McCormick succeeds in moving the action along at an enjoyable pace, helping listeners navigate the slow parts and bringing excitement to the story even when it doesn't deserve it.

With the Women's Murder Club down one member after a brutal attack, Lindsay Boxer has her hands full: she's trying to stop a nasty bunch from snatching children off the street and find time for the new love of her life.
When a horrifying attack leaves one of the four members of the Women's Murder Club struggling for her life, the others fight to keep a madman behind bars before anyone else is hurt.
And Lindsay Boxer and her new partner in the San Francisco police department run flat-out to stop a series of kidnappings that has electrified the city: children are being plucked off the streets together with their nannies--but the kidnappers aren't demanding ransom. Amid uncertainty and rising panic, Lindsay juggles the possibility of a new love with an unsolvable investigation, and the knowledge that one member of the club could be on the brink of death.
And just when everything appears momentarily under control, the case takes a terrifying turn, putting an entire city in lethal danger. Lindsay must make a choice she never dreamed she'd face--with no certainty that either outcome has more than a prayer of success.
