I was looking for an inexpensive touchscreen smartphone that would let me access my several email accounts, including work email. I've had the Samsung Dart for almost a month now and I love it! The phone itself is well made, and does not feel cheap. I've dropped it with no ill effects (whew!# The Android 2.2 op system works well - fairly quick with no lag that I've noticed yet, and no lockups. If I get lag/lockups later I'll add another review. It has reasonable screen resolution, the touchscreen is very responsive and the phone and internet connectivity is better than my old phone on another network. I love the form factor - not too large, or too small. I can stick this phone in my pants pocket, it's easy to hold, and the buttons, including the on-screen keyboard, are fairly easy to use, even though I have large hands. Sometimes I do hit the wrong key using the onscreen keyboard in portrait, but if it becomes an issue, I turn the phone to landscape, or use the included Swype text entry. I'd never used Swype before, but do use it occassionally now to enter text. Also, it's fairly easy to perform most operations with one hand, which can be an issue with large smartphones. Using the internet is simple with a browser that can use either the T-Mobile faux 4g #3g that they call 4g) or WiFi. The phone application is very intuitive, and takes away the annoyances I had with my last smartphone, which was "smart" but irritating to use as a "phone." This phone has several ways to access contacts, you can easily redial numbers, check your call history, including the length of individual calls, delete individual or multiple call history, put calls on hold, conference calls, and several other useful features that you'd either expect of a phone, or are unexpected but make you think "this is cool". Also, you can multitask on the phone, surf the web or use several other apps while on a phone call, although there are some things you can't do (I can't remember what, but I got a dialog box once telling me I couldn't do something while on a phone call). Another reviewer mentioned that the screen goes blank when you're on a call. I either use a headset or the speakerphone most of the time and don't experience this. I can see how that might happen by design, so you don't accidently disconnect the call or activate something you didn't intend to while holding the phone to your head - this was considered a "feature" on my old phone which had a proximity monitor to kill the screen when it got close to your head. I found it annoying then, and it was one of the reasons, (along with fear of radiation, handsfree driving in the car, etc. :-)) I mostly use bluetooth or wired headphones now. The speakerphone is very clear with good listening volume, and no one has mentioned any call clarity issues hearing my voice when using it. It's so clear on my side that I've actually been talking on it and forgotten whether I was on speakerphone or headset! I've loaded about 400 - 500 songs, about 200 pictures and have dowloaded about a dozen apps and games, with no problem so far, but it does have limited memory. On my phone it says it has 177MB of system memory, and it only comes with 2G on the included microSD card (1.86 GB usable, of which I've used 1.18 GB w/ 705 M available). I am ordering a larger (16GB)microSD card so I can load more music, and store more data & apps. (fyi: looking at the Android market/store I notice that not all apps can be stored on the micrSD card, which means they'll have to be saved to the phone memory - this is Android and not particular to this phone but something to be aware of.) The included apps are not too intrusive with the phone, contacts, email and shortcut to your apps being the only stock ones you can't remove. The camera is not bad, but nothing special. It takes clear pictures with enough light, but there's no flash. The voice recorder is functional, but not that great for anything but voice notes (singing is not recorded with high fidelity). The battery is okay, and it's way better than my last phone which had to be charged about every 3 or 4 hours. I average about 8-9 hours on a charge, and have gotten 12-13 hours. This is with a lot of talking, some web usage, and app usage. Unlike another reviewer who's battery seems to die very quickly, I've listened to entire albums while playing Sudoku without draining the battery. I have noticed that I have to be careful with bluetooth, and turn it off when not in use, or the battery does drain faster. I also use the task manager to kill apps I've opened but am not currently using just in case they use power. Maybe it's my expectations regarding smartphone batteries, or just luck of the draw and YMMV, but even though the battery could be better it's not that bad. Oh, one more thing - This phone has a voice search/command service with "voice actions" that is GREAT! It's like giving voice commands to the Star-Trek computer. It can do Google searches, find and dial phone numbers, find places and navigate to them, but additionally it also let's you write and send emails, texts etc., It's not completely bug free- not always understanding what I'm saying, but I find this voice actions feature incredibly useful, perhaps it's something standard with Android, and I'm the last person on the planet to know about it, but it is AWESOME... did I say I really like it:) All-in-all this is a very good phone. High quality for the price, nice size, works great, responsive with no lockups, good features (did I mention voice search/dial/command actions???? :-) and decent standard apps. I tried to hit the highlights here, and cover some of the features I found important so hope this is helpful. I would recommend this phone to someone who is new to smartphones, touchscreens, or Google/Android. Or, if you're like me (I'm kind of a tech geek who's previously used the iPhone and a Palm Pre - thank you for the condolences) and don't need a lot of extra bells and whistles you won't use, but want a decent phone that works, the Samsung Dart is the phone.

Positive: It is fast and responds quickly. Some phones freeze when you try to open or close a program, this phone runs pretty smooth. The layout is well organized and easy to navigate. In my opinion, it isn't too small, too big, too hefty, or too wide; it is just as big as it needs to be. It is not cheaply put together or made...it is pretty tough so if you accidently drop it I don't think it would break, but who knows. Now the Negatives: BATTERY, BATTERY, BATTERY! When I first got this phone it didn't maintain a charge AT ALL...so I choose the optimal settings in order to try in preserve the battery life a little longer. I adjusted the brightness, adjusted my running applications, etc...but to no avail. Even with the optimal settings the battery life is absolutley pathetic. I litterally listened to two songs, while the screen was off, and it drained my battery half-way. In order to even use the phone to browse the android market I have to use it while it is plugged in...and if I go anywhere and need the battery to last I have to avoid using it all together. This phone also has problems with memory; it can only hold so many applications EVEN IF you have a SIM card or extra storage on the phone itself. It has 4 pages in the menu; after 4 pages is filled it doesn't download any more apps. At tops I think I downloaded 9 apps before a warning message poped-up and said "insufficient room". Not my cup of tea. Another thing that bugged and annoyed me is the screen settings...while on a phone call the screen goes black (I guess an attempt to save the little battery life this phone has) and there is NO WAY to adjust this setting. So in order to hang up, turn on speaker, hold, or make another call you have to either turn the phone to the side (something triggers it to come back on) or you have to press a variety of buttons. VERY ANNOYING. Overall, I would say a waste of money. This isn't exactly a cheap phone (although compared to some phones I guess it would be). Lets face it...you can't even use the thing thanks to the battery life. What good is a phone that you can't use?

Got this phone last month and love it. Have no problem with battery life, so I don't know what those reviews are all about. When I first opened my phone I charged it for 48 hours and have never had a problem with the battery. I use my phone every day and when I get home at night I usually put it on a charge except that i did forget a few times and it was still good to go the next day even with out the charge. This is my first smart phone and I am amazed with all that it can do like email, google and etc. I have a prepaid plan for phone minutes and Text only because I have wi-fi at home and work and Starbucks so I don't really have a need to use the 3G net work that the phone has available. I only pay for the minutes I use which comes to about 100 dollars a year because I use the phone for the internet a lot more and that is free for me. Maybe the people that have had a problem with the battery use and talk on their phones a lot more than I do. I am not one of those people that you see with a phone stuck on their ears all day long so maybe that is why they have a battery problem. This phone can also make wi-fi calls which is great and free at no charge. Bottom line is that this is a great smart phone for the price it will be hard to beat for me.

The zip code result indicated that the phone won't work for my 60411 zip even though I'm currently on a T-mobile plan using a RAZR phone in that zip code. What exactly makes this phone unworkable in my zip with T-mobile?

    • A. The zip code results indicated that it would not work in my area 27527 but I purchased it anyway & my daughter has been using the Samsung Dart for about a month now & it works fine. It picks up the internet. I got her the $50 monthly plan, but before I changed it over she had the $15 monthly unlimited txt & used the wifi to connect to the internet to get on you tube. We travel alot so I changed her plan. But the phone works great. I would recommend it.

    • A. I've seen this before on the WalMart site so decided to check my own zip code with a T-Mobile prepaid phone that I already own and purchased at WalMart as a prepaid phone. I know mine works, but I also got the same answer that it 'doesn't work in my zip code'. Honestly, that makes no sense to me as I have never heard of any cell phone being operational based on a zip code. And guess what? The phone that I had already purchased works just fine in 'my zip code', and in all the other zip codes I travel to! Since WalMart takes back about everything one purchases, just buy it and try it, or return it. The only logic I can see is if a person lives too far away from any cell towers for ANY cell phone to work. But cell phones for certain zip codes...huh? Never heard of that.
