Even though the federal government's DTV Transition is now complete, your analog TV set is not obsolete. However, there are some steps you must take to be able to continue to use it. To ensure continued use of your analog set, you must use a digital-to-analog converter box or connect to a subscription service, such as cable or satellite TV.

Analog TVs should continue to work with gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products that you use now.

Analog TVs do need a digital-to-analog converter box to receive over-the-air television broadcasts, now that the DTV Transition is completed. Analog TVs equipped with a converter box will display the digital broadcasts, but not in full digital quality.

A converter box, much like your cable box, will allow you to receive a picture, but it won't be able to deliver high-definition programming or give you access to other digital services.

This product is such a GREAT BUY!!! 1st: The price is VERY REASONABLE... CHEAP even, by comparison... but NOT A CHEAP product! 2nd: It has a multi-functional-universal remote which made it possible for me to cut down on the number of remotes I was using previously. 3rd: This converter box is the BEST... it has so many MORE functions than the comparable RCA (from WalMart) or APEX (from Best Buy). I get 38(+/-) channels! What a deal... better than local basic cable! Plus, it has multiple guides for viewing what's coming on next. 4th: It's a piece-of-cake to program! I'm mechanically inclined, but it was EASY! So glad I decided to try this one, instead of the RCA one, and had it delivered to my local WM store for free! What a deal!!! Only ONE CAUTION I might add: When installing, BE SURE TO SIT THIS PRODUCT ON IT'S SIDE, OTHERWISE IT GETS VERY HOT, and might over heat. I've had no problems, but noticed the heat after a few hrs of operation. Hope this info helps someone to enjoy the FREE airwaves!

I was skeptical at first about purchasing a brand I wasn't sure about but for the price I couldn't pass on trying this. I bought it for a friend who was in a pickle and has a 3 year old how missed watching his educational tv and animated movies. I used an RCA flat antenna that doesn't need adjusting and was able to get all the local channels accept for ABC, channel 7, out of NYC. The town the tv is located is in Hoboken,NJ a few miles away from the station in NYC. At first she was able to get 22 stations but after hooking up a splicer to accept the digital antenna and using the cable connection as an antenna, even though the service was discontinued, I was able to get a total of 28 channels in all with 5 of them being spanish speaking channels. All in all, they are grateful to be able to watch tv once again. In the future I will try a stronger antenna an exterior type to recieve even more channels.

It stopped working less than a week after I got it. It has a boot screen that displays "Sunkey Systems", then it displays whatever channel you had it on. One morning I turned it on and the box said boot, but it just went to a black screen. I was unable to turn it off from both the box and remote and was unable to use any of the remote options. However, it was good while it lasted. It was easy to set up and use. You can use either the coax (mono) or the s-video (stereo) to connect. the The universal remote was nice. The sound was kinda weird though. The higher the volume was on the tv, the more "noise" it made. If I turned the tv volume down to make the "noise" go away and the box's volume up, I could barely hear a show or movie. If it didn't stop working I would say it was a good buy.

I have only had this product for 3 weeks and it does not work properly. It will turn on and that is it. I am unable to view any channels, all I have is a blank black screen on my television. I have call the manufacture 5 days ago EVERYDAY, no one answers to take my call. I call every day and have to leave a message concerning this defective product and no one will return my calls!!!! I am left with a product that does not work, while I paid in full to Walmart for something that I can't use. No one will return my calls to get a replacement or my money back. So whatever you do DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT!!!!! YOU WILL BE LEFT WITH A PRODUCT THAT DOES NOT WORK, WHILE BEING STUCK WITH NO WAY TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK OR A REPLACEMENT!!!!!

  • A. I used this with an RCA flat indoor digital tv antenna which needs no adjusting and is amplified. I also used a splitter and hooked up the cable used for cable tv, but it's not in service, to help me get aven more channels but none are cable channels, only those which are free local stations. If used with an outdoor antenna I'm sure you'd be able to get stations from 50 or so miles away. I recommend to use this site to assist you in making a decision on the antenna needed: http://www.hdtvantennalabs.com/indoor.php . I'm not sure why you'd want to use a converter box if you have cable. local channels are usually included in any package choosen.

  • A. You don't need it if you have cable TV. All this unit does is convert digital signals to analog for older tv's. I you have cable the cable box takes care of that for you. I you give up cable and have an old tv then you probably will need this box.

  • A. If you have a new tv, then you can already get over-the-air broadcasts in digital format, no converter box needed. All you need is to buy a UHF antenna and you're good to go.

  • A. I've left reviews and answered questions similar to yours. Yes it will get you local channels. The type of antenna you use depends on how many channels. An outdoors antenna is best. I recommend using this website to assist in choosing an antenna: http://www.hdtvantennalabs.com/indoor.php . I used the RCA amplified flat indoors 360 degree antenna that requires no adjusting. Winegard's SS-3000 is said to be the best indoor digital TV antenna.

I am currently a cable subscriber, but looking at closing that down. I have an older Curtis Mathis TV that works on my cable digital box. When i terminate my cable service will this box work to get my basic channels? I live in the Des Moines, Iowa area.

  • A. Yes, it will get the over-the-air local channels. I used to live in Iowa, so I know that "in the area" can be quite a ways away. Get a good, amplified UHF antenna (or better yet, a roof mounted antenna), and you'll be in business.

  • A. Yes it will pick up any local tv channels that are now broadcasting Digital signals. You will need to buy a HD antenna. Walmart carries one made by Phillips for under $10.00. This unit worked real well in Oklahoma City until it stopped working. I returned it and will order another because I really liked the look of it and the features it has.

  • A. I am not certain about your local reception, but this device does a pretty thorough scan. The key is the antenna you decide to use, as this will make all the difference. I didn't get anything expensive, but it does the job. This has the standard antenna in / out to TV, plus the red/yellow/white composite connectors. I did not see a site for support, but as long as you follow the manual, I think it should work.
