    GREAT Recycling Bins!

    Customer review by Krystee

I couldn't be more happy with this product. It was a great value for the price. The bins are large and roomy. The lids flip up and stay so you can put your items in and then you close them. They are durable and easy to wash out with the hose. They stack well and don't blow over in the wind.

Great Idea, Yet Not Exactly High Quality

    Customer review by ReviewerCAM

First let me acknowledge that these are cheaply made and cheap in cost, so you come out evenly. Because they are cheaply made I can't speak for longevity. However, that said, they do a great job as bins for recycling. We bought six (individuals), put bottles and cans in one, plastics in one another, and all "other trash" in another. The remaining three we nest in the others and reserve as backups for when one of the others gets full, which happens repeatedly with the "other trash." The lids snap on tightly, which can be a bit annoying when you try to remove the lids to dump them. This tightness in the lid has advantages, as it allows them to be carried by the built-in handle without spilling—though don't think of them as leak-proof because they aren't. They are stable when stacked. Plastic bags as liners isn't feasible and doesn't work. If we're putting something messy inside we just put it in a small plastic bag leftover from bringing groceries home. Hope that help any potential purchasers.

    Perfect for organizing my recycling

    Customer review by Roxstar

Our laundry room had been overtaken by all of of our items we recycle, and I couldn't stand the mess. I bought 2 sets of these, and put labels on the front of each. Nice and organized now! Very happy with these stacking bins. You can put stuff in each bin even as they are stacked (I have 4 stacked together, saves a LOT of space). They are NOT the most heavy duty, but they work for my purpose. I just stack the heaviest (glass) items on the bottom. They hold a lot more than I thought they would. Hopefully they will stand the test of time.

I want to keep my recycling outside but don't want animals (mostly feral cats and raccoons) to get into the containers.

    • A. This may not be a good option for you for two reasons: 1) The lids not only do not snap shut securely, but they basically just sit on top of the bins. They weight of the top bin would keep the bottom lid on just fine, but the critters would still be able to open the latch, and they'd be all over you're top bin. 2) They aren't water proof. Water resistant, yes, but not waterproof. Though it wouldn't be much, there would be some water that would get into the bins. 3) While they hold a lot of weight, they are fairly light themselves. Knowing how light most recycled stuff is, you might have trouble with them blowing over if you have winds like we do.

    • A. They do not snap shut. Critters could very likely get in.

    • A. The lids do shut however they aren't a tight fit. I think if an animal were to knock them over they could easily get inside. I wouldn't recommend them if you are looking for animal protection.

    • A. The lids are not secured shut. I think racoons may be able to lift them.

    • A. The Suncast Stacking Recycle bins model BH188810 are intended to be used indoors. The lids will stay open during use but will only minimally snap closed. If used outdoors, animals like feral cats, raccoons, or other nuisance animals will gain access. Thank you for your question, Sandy, and your interest in Suncast products.

Anyone know what kind of weight limit these things have? They look like they would make EXCELLENT feed bins, but I'm afraid that the weight may be too much to stack them one atop another. Can they hold, say 200 lbs? 100 lbs? What do you think?

    • A. I am using these for chicken feed, and they are holding up just fine. I have had as much as 60+ pounds in the top bin with 50 pounds in the bottom bin at the same time. I'm not sure that you would even be able to physically fit 200 pounds of food into two of them. I'd feel safe saying that you could stack 3 high @ 50+ pounds in each. I wouldn't go higher of heavier than that, personally.

    • A. I don't know the maximum weight limit, but they are structured in such a way as to have the curved "tube-shapes" built into the sides for added strength. In my opinion they would definitely have more side strength than the average bin sold in most stores. All that said, they are still made of a thinner, cheaper, and more brittle plastic than say Rubbermade products. I would definitely say 200 lbs is out of the question. Dog food, maybe, even probably, but I doubt much more. Hope that helps somewhat.

    • A. I think that much weight would probably crack the plastic. Maybe if you only stacked them 2 high?
