This is an entry-level Android phone. Keeping that in mind, it's an excellent phone for the price, considering that a top of the line Android goes for much more than twice the price. Yes, storage is a bit cramped, so put in a 16GB micro SD card. RAM is also cramped - you can't run too many apps at once. It's not a server in a tower, it's an entry level phone. If you want a phone that will run everything, be prepared to spend around $400 and up. The service is reasonable. For less than $45/month (if you buy the 3 month cards), you get unlimited talk and text and reasonably unlimited data. It's the cheapest such plan there is. (And you can use wifi to download as much as you want.) It runs on the Sprint network, so make sure that Sprint gives decent coverage wherever you'll need it. Other than that, you won't find a better Android phone for the price. Freezing? Yes, if you try to run huge apps, or many apps at once. Remember - it's an entry-level phone. But running Mapquest while you're driving works nicely and you can see what the traffic looks like up ahead.

So I have had this phone for 7 months. It has met all my expectations. I love the apps. It does take very good pictures which u can instantly load on to Facebook. Sure it does has its quirks and the battery will die fast if u use it constantly .. which I do. I have the APP Killer & Juice defender to save my battery. I suggest them both, but make sure to UNCHECK the Juice Killer so the APP Killer doesn't shut the app down. Like all phones, it does lock up and u have to shut it off for a second and turn it back on.. no biggie. The down side is it is on the SPRINT NETWORK so if you don't have Sprint towers, don't get it. I live in Tallahassee, Florida and my service is OK.. I have NO service if I drive 35 miles north to my parents. Also, NO SERVICE on this phone once u get past Crawfordville, FL .. so if your heading to St. George Island .. find another phone.. You'll be in a dead zone the entire time (which may actually be good if you're trying to get away from all electronic devices). This phone would be excellent if it was on Verizon Network.

The only thing I would change about the phone is the memory storage. The phone holds very little before it starts to slow down. Other than that I love the phone and all the functions is has. I would recommend this phone to everyone. They didn't recommend the phone for my area but a friend used theirs at my house with no problems so I went ahead and purchased it. I have three bars all the time and very happy with the service.

I bought this phone in an emergency (smashed my Nokia E71 screen) without reading the reviews so I was pretty nervous after seeing how poorly it performed for others. I've had it for 4 days now and after heavy use, I love it. There are a few issues: Sadly, the camera is only 2 megapixels and there is no flash -- this is a really important feature for me so I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. The pictures often look grainy and the color is off. I can probably adjust it... maybe? Another problem is I cannot seem to add more than one email address, other than gmail, where I can add many. I am working on that. Finally, battery life stinks. Dead after about 12 hours with moderate use. A 2 hour conversation used 76% of the battery. Not a deal breaker but my last phone could go for days without charging. I also hope it has a front-facing camera, as one review said online. Aside from the above issues, I LOVE THIS PHONE! The talk-to-text feature lets me dictate texts and emails quickly and accurately. My thumbs are happy. Also, after reading some of the negative reviews, I wanted to add my own view of certain things. I am not a techie nor very phone-savvy, just an educated, professional female who uses my phone as an integral part of my business and also for pretty heavy personal use. Small children use my phone as well. For me (and kids watching videos), the screen is a nice size and it has only frozen up once when I was programming it (badly, so I take the blame). The internet connection is fine -- I've had Straight Talk for almost a year and internet speed or access has never been an issue in my area of FL. It is as good or better than my previous, expensive provider. I had an iPhone before and the screen was hard for me to use so I was hesitant to get another touch screen but this one seems easier for some reason. The phone is also very easy to program, very intuitive, adding apps and ringtones, etc. was a cinch, and it's nice having an Android Straight Talk phone -- affordable and fun. I'll update if anything changes but I am really happy so far. If the camera were better and had a flash, this would garner 5 stars, no question. A final note: when I ported my number, it took 12 hours before I called in and was told I had to update my software/profile to activate my phone. Previous ports took less than 30 minutes so if you're waiting long for activation, this could be why. Enjoy!

After constant freezes I finally returned it after two days. I upgraded the SD card, updated the software, and even used an app killer to reduce the work load on the phone. Even after shutting down all apps and live wall papers it still managed to lock up after 3 hours. Maybe I just got bad luck with this purchase, but it looks like this phone has many bad reviews already if you look at the Galaxy Precent without the bonus gel skin. I exchanged the Galaxy for an LG Optimus Q and so far I have had no issues.

    • A. No, you have to purchase it before you activate the phone. I suggest you charge overnight before programming it. There is a discount card available for 1, 3, 6 months at lower price at 3, 6, and 1 yr cards. You can get them at the store or at Walmart dot com [it's emailed to you with an activation pin].

    • A. No the phone does not come with a pre-paid card. You must purchase seperately unless it plainly states it does come with one. Some are package deals but it states that it includes a $30 or $45 pre-paid card

I am trying to find out who provides the service for this phone. One person posted two different answers saying Sprint and then posts again that it is Verizon. So exactly how am I supposed to get information on the provider from that answer? So what carrier provides service for this Samsung phone? A straight answer would be appreciated.

    • A. The straight talk android phones run on the sprint prepay network. You can check the coverage for your area by going to boostmobile.com. Most of the other phones offered by straight talk either use verizon network or AT&T network.

    • A. Early rumors - before the phone was sold - were Sprint or Verizon (which are the only possibilities in the US for a CDMA phone). It's on Sprint. (There's an Android app that tells you which towers you're on, and it's simple to look them up and see whose they are.) If you're in an area well serviced by Sprint, it's a good phone for the price.

    • A. The right anwer to your question is Straight Talk and the phone works off of Sprint towers. The newest line of Android phone from straight talk work off Sprint vs. the older offered phones from Straight Talk that use Verizon towers. Before purchasing the phone go to sprints website and see how strong the signal is in your area. They did not recommend my address for the phone but it works good with three bars all the time. Remember its 3G wireless so if you have wireless internet at home it will work off your internet connection for internet browsing.
