  • About this item

The Stansport Cast Iron Griddle offers a cooking surface suitable for many tasks. It is a pre-seasoned cooking griddle with a dual surface. One side is flat and the other side is grooved to remove fat and oil while you're cooking. Food also stays warmer in this griddle when compared to ordinary pans.

The flat surface of the cooking griddle is ideal for cooking eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausages, and potatoes, while the grooved surface is great for steaks and hamburgers. The griddle lets you cook your food at an even temperature. The Cast Iron Fry Pan with a non-stick cooking surface offers protection from rust. The flat surface Cookware is easy to clean and does not require special treatment.

    Worst one ever!!

    Customer review by Minnison

    1.0 stars by Minnison

I saw this griddle and thought it would be an inexpensive decent griddle to use occasionally. My wife told me to go with Lodge and I didn't think it would be worth it considering how infrequently I would use it. I saw one review about how hard it was to take the "protective" waxy layer off, but saw all the other good reviews and thought it would be worth a try. What a mistake, and the I told you so's never stopped. The griddle itself is ok, a bit rough but I thought with a little seasoning it would work out. The waxy layer however is the worst thing ever. I don't know who had the bright idea to add this layer in manufacturing should be fired. It is impossible to ever get completely off. It's stuck in every nook and cranny of the griddle. The directions to remove it were followed and totally ineffective. I tried everything to remove it, but it never does. On this basis alone it fails. The rest of it is ok for the price, but you will definitely pay for it in wax smoke inhalation, waxy tasting foods, and nothing but frustration. In the end I should have listened to my wife and got the Lodge. Doh!!!

    Great for Camping

Excellent product. Great quality and value. I seasoned this per the included instructions and it works better than a non-stick. Took this camping and used it on a LP gas double burner. Extremely satisfied. Heats up quickly and the food always tastes great. This is very simple to clean, just water and a sponge: wipe down, dry well with a towel and then throw it on the heat for one minute, light spray of PAM and let the heat completely dry the griddle for about one minute. This prevents rust. I give it a quick spray of Pam before using, helps keep it seasoned. Very happy with this and I love the fact that it is reversible. I scrambled 6 eggs at a time on it.

    Cannot get seasoned

The product had some type of "film" from the factory, I assume to keep it from developing rust. I followed the instructions to wash in hot soapy water but it did not remove the film. I even used a scrubber but still could not get all the film off. Tried to season the griddle following the instructions and it set off my smoke alarms, filled my home with smoke and only change color in the areas that did not have the film. Not worth the effort

Cast iron MUST be seasoned prior to use. Many other cast iron item descriptions tell whether or not it is already seasoned.

    • It is a Good Ideal to season yourself, before you use it. Even if it is already seasoned. Oven stove set preheat 350F. I do inside only. Wash cast iron cookware with hot water first use a kitchen brush or nylon sponges. NO soap. Dry completly first can set in your oven until dry. cool down. I put Crisco all-veg. shortening on. I use a paper towel and start at the bottom and work up. Bake for 1 hour. Let it cool down with shortening in. When cool to touch the extra oil smooth all over. Repeat clean with hot water after you cook in it, to help build up a non-stick surface use oil again. No soap, it will take all your seasoning off.

    • No it's not. Seasoning didn't really help either.

    • NO, it is coated with a waxy coating that must be cleaned off then you must heat it to get the waxy stuff out of the pours with they tell you in the directions will cause some smoke. You must then season your self.

    • No its not seasoned, you must do that your self. Its easy enough, coat it with some vegtable oil and pop it in the oven and let it bake.

    • not pre-seasoned. instructions included.

    • This item is non-stick, which leads me to believe it wouldn't penetrate for seasoning effect. I purchased same brand but different style, tefloned. I also have pure cast iron, which I absolutely season. This, is different.
