Yes it does have gradient markings on the side...

Yes. It is stamped with oz/ml measurements.

Yes it has graduations at 8oz (237ml), 12oz (355ml), 16oz (473ml) and 20oz (591ml) but nothing above that.

It has measuring marks, but they are too hard to read to be very useful...I took a small plastic pudding cup and marked that with measurements and then simply stored it inside the pot along with my salt and pepper, potholder/washcloth, etc...

Yes it does. Marked at 8oz,12oz,16oz,and 20oz. You can also see the markings on the inside of the pot (that's what you really need otherwise what good are they). The plastic cups say 10oz on the bottom but are otherwise unmarked.

On the inside. The marks start at 8oz and go in 4oz increments to 20 or 24oz (I don't have it in front of me). Wish they did it on the outside too but, nobody asked me! :D

does this have measuring marks on the side?

Yes, I have put it on my alcohol stove and Esbit stove and in the fire it will discolor on the bottom but any pot does! I love it!!

Yes you can, its stainless steal. It will turn it black but if your used to cooking on a open fire you know that! also it is thin so you will need to watch not to melt it set on a flat rock oo to the side It is not a cast Iron pot

No prob! And it won't warp either. This is a sturdy piece! Just don't leave the lid on if you're cooking very hot or replace the lift tab w/a split ring.

I haven't done that, but, I put it on my white gas stove directly on a jet flame. As long as you have liquid in it and so long as the flames aren't coming up above the lid, I don't see why it wouldn't. This unit is all stainless steel except the little handle on the lid which is plastic. Outside will likely get blackened in the fire, but that wont affect its functionality. I say - go for it.

You CAN place this directly on the coals. Keep in mind that the relatively thin stainless steel will not dissipate heat well so you may have hot spots... not a problem heating water, but if you are heating food you need to stir constantly to prevent scorching.

It's stainless steal so it wont be harmed however it may be somewhat discolored. The cups on the other hand are plastic, don't put them on the coals or they'll melt.

Did this several times last weekend. Once was over just hot coals and it worked great. The other time was over hot coals that I moved a little away from the fire. It still worked ok but I did end up with a bit more ash in my water than I would have liked because of the holes in the lid. Others have mentioned the tab on the lid melting. I didn&#39;t have any problem with that but will be throwing a key ring in my bag just in case.

You can place this on the coals, not a big deal. I several people that have these and they do that. I love mine.

Can this item be placed directly on coals of a fire or does it need to be on a stovetop?

make sure the little cross piece on the handle is slid outward from the pot and try again. This piece is to prevent accidental folding of the handle while in use.

You have to slide that rectangular metal piece toward the end of the handle in order to squeeze the handle and close it over the top.

My friend and I got this set to take backpacking this summer....of all the options out there this was the only one that was affordable. We left the insulated cups home (too heavy). The pot performed as we had hoped and held up well, so well in fact that I have recommended it to all the other people that want to go on our next trip!! Really only big enough to cook for one person, but for the price it's worth it to have one for each!!

Great little pot for the money!!

I have used this for backpack cooking with a compact stove. It has measuring marks indented which helps for adding the right amount of water. The cover is vented which is great for straining. The included cups are particularly good for coffee. Finally the folding handle acts as a snap top holder to keep everything together. Highly recommended.

Sturdy, perfect size

I purchased this cookpot to take on winter dayhikes with my son. the included plastic mugs aren't very light but are very durable and store inside one another and both fit inside the cookpot. There's enough room left over for a lightweight alcohol stove to nest inside the mugs.

The lid handle flips down for storage and pops up to remove and check whatever you're cooking. It also has holes to drain water from pasta...

The cookpot handle flips up and locks in to position to hold the lid on and appears quite secure.

I think this is a nice setup to melt some snow and make a couple hot cocoas at the top of the trail and won't hesitate to recommend it to anyone on a budget.

Perfect dayhiking cookpot

I was debating on buying a 'jetboil ' and bought this and a multifuel single burner stove instead. This vessel is key to boiling 20 oz of liquid in a little over 3 minutes. It is durable and light weight and comes with 2 small cups for sharing some coffee. All folds or nests to take up little space. If a few ounces of weight makes a difference to you - maybe better to stick with aluminum. But -for durability, strength, high temperature tolerance, and value, you cant beat this unit. It is everything advertised - and then some. Go ahead and get yourself one - you'll never regret it!
