Two years ago My mother had Heart Failure and was not expected to live. We are so thankful she is still with us. When she came home I found this Bed Railing on QVC and bought it. Now My dad is not doing well and fell out of bed after a nightmare and was in the hospital. He is now home and I went on line and found this same bed railing at Wal-mart .com The great thing is, it was a better buy and shipped free with site to store. This is a great product and I wish more people new about it.My parents are 87 and 88 years old, but this will be useful for people of all ages!

I can't recommend this product highly enough. I got it for my 79 year-old mom after she got out of rehabilitation following hip replacement surgery. My mom loves it & says it has given her the freedom she needed to get in & out of bed on her own. She is typically very intimidated by "gadgets", but this fit unobtrusively on her bed & is so secure, she immediately felt very comfortable with it. We opted to remove the pocket organizer which is very easy to do. Installation is easy. I'm a 46 year-old female & was able to lock this piece in place & install it all on my own. (It would've been easier to get it under the mattress with assistance, but it can be done by one person.) The part that goes between the mattress and box spring seems like you may be able to feel it when you are on the bed, but you can't. If you need a bed rail that doesn't take up a ton of room and that's reliable, this is the one for you! My mom says that out of all the tools she got to help her recuperate from hip surgery - toilet lifter, walker, cane - this bed rail has been the biggest help. If your loved one needs help getting in & out of bed, don't wait. Get this rail now!

I bought this bed rail because I fell out of bed twice and don't want it to happen again. It is strong and dependable. The strap under the mattress holds it with no chance of slipping. The padded rounded top is pleasing to the eye as well as not a safety hazard. I think a bed rail of this length will be enough to keep me from rolling out of bed but short enough to allow me to get in and out of bed easily. The pockets are handy for the remote etc. I would recommend this bed rail for this use.

    • As long as you can anchor it to the bedframe, it should work.

    • If your loft bed has a mattress, no box spring, and only a metal spring or slats supporting the mattress, then this portable bed rail should fit that mattress. I use this side rail on the upper part of a trundle bed that has only a mattress, no box spring, and sits on a metal spring base. I wrapped the attached strap around the mattress, under the mattress pad, and it works well.

    • I used it successfully with a fold-up bed - just a mattress on springs - so I see no reason why it would not work on a loft bed.

    • What's a loft bed? if it has rails where you can tie or wrap the strap around to secure it it will.

    • it should with a few adjustments. designed to work with a flat bed but we made it work just fine on an inhome hospital bed by going between the springs and matress.

We removed the box spring from my mom's bed (she is 90) since the bed was too high for her to enter and exit safely. Can this work if the base sits on top of the wood slats instead of between a mattress and box spring?
    by BayRidgeNative 7/14/2009
    • yes, if there is a frame supporting the mattress.
      by gusroax12/4/2014
Was this answer helpful? (1) (0)
    • Yes, if you add a couple slats. The rail depends on anchoring between the mattress and a solid base.

    • I would wrap it around the bedframe itself and then it should be fine.

    • I use the bedrail on a trundle bed with only a mattress, no box spring. I wrapped the attached strap directly around the mattress, under the mattress pad. Has worked well so far.

    • Kinda, it has a largish loop that extends about two and half feet by two feet wide under the bed and comes with a starp which you secure to the bed rail or wrap around the bed rail so it should wrap around the rail where your slats are. You may wish to pad it so it doesn't grind against the slats! Our mom is on an adjustable bed which has no box spring, just a flat platform that contorts so it's about the same. We also got her a memory foam mattress which is lighter than a regular mattress with springs and it seems to work fine. Good Luck!

    • Yes, the strap goes around the metal frame, you would have to put a flat piece of board on the slats to put the piece of product that goes under the mattress on! This could work!!

    • We also removed the bed frame because the bed was too high. I ran the security strap between the mattress and box springs and tied it to the headboard at the opposite end of the bed. I think the strap is just extra security. It seems sturdy enough without it, but I'm sure you could figure out something to secure the strap to on the opposite side of the bed.

    • If you can hook it to the bottom of the bed it should work. It hooks to the bed rail on the opposite side and then the strap goes in between the matress's

    • No need to fold. It slides out from between your mattresses. Very handy and safe. I used to take headers to the floor. Once with very painfull consequences. No more.

    • It does not fold down. It does not interfere much with the bedmaking. There is sufficient space for bed linen to be laid out.

    • No, it does not fold down, even though the video indicates it does.
      by KJHI12/4/2014

    • No, it does not fold down, but there is enough room between the bed and rail to "stuff" the blanket etc down the side.
      by PJ10661/28/2012
Was this answer helpful? (0) (0)
    • There is a pin which you can pull out so that the rail can fold out. But it does not make bedmaking easy. I just keep the top covers and comforter folded down at an angle, clearing the bedrail, since my mother takes a nap a couple of times a day.
      by directconnect12/4/2014
Was this answer helpful? (1) (0)
    • No - however, since it pulls out easily you are able to make the bed then return it to it's position.
