I bought this for my mother to use after she got out of transitional care about ten days ago. She loves it She said it makes it so much easier to get in and out of bed It took me about ten minutes to install by myself with the hardest part getting the safety strap under the mattress to the other side of the bed. A second person would help just to hold the mattress up. I also needed to tighten the bolts that hold the metal piece to the wood frame. Just a note of caution, the instructions say you should have a box spring and mattress to use properly. The wooden part of the bed cane slips between the box spring and the mattress. Don't try this with a foam mattress (I think they are too light) Pros: easy to install, very strong and does what it is supposed to. Cons: The handle diameter may be to large for someone with very petite hands. The pocket attachment covered the part of the handle my mother wanted to grab so we left it off. (that would be a personal preference.) I would recomend this to anyone who need help geting in and out of bed.

This Bed Cane was recommended by an Occupational Therapist. I found the best price on Walmart and placed the order. Within days, the Bed Cane arrived and was installed with the comprehensive instructions. My wife loves it as it serves several purposes: a grab bar to assist getting in and out of bed; a catch-all device for small items; and as a protection from falling out of bed.

We got this for my 87 yr old mother who still lives alone. She was having a difficult time getting out of bed. This bed cane is working great for her. She is very happy with it. It was very easy to install, we had it fastened to the bed in no time.

  • It can be use to an adjustable bed, the only thing is with hospital beds the mattress is not thick enough so I wouldn't recommend it. Might be better to use the rails that come with the hospital bed.

  • Most hospital beds have rails of their own, which would get in the way of this bed cane product. Also, if the bed has parts that raise and lower at angles, this product won't be compatable with that kind of bed because the wood base needs to stay flat and stationary.

  • We have one for our adjustable bed, with no strap and it fits under your top mattress and works great. We have had it for 5 years. It must fit on the frame that elevates, my husband says. The strap will tie to the bed frame on the other side of the bed. It really works great.

  • This could be used only if installed on the upper section of the bed frame, it could not cross the "bend" in the frame that raises the head of the bed. If installed on the upper section it should work when that is lowered but would most likely have to be readjusted every time the head of the bed was raised, since it would slip down the frame while in the upright position- you would have to make sure the strap is fastened to the moving part of the frame, not the fixed part.

  • The Bed Cane fits between the mattress and box springs of a normal bed. It is possible that it could be used on an adjustable bed, between the mattress and the bed frame. However, it must not be placed at a point where the frame folds. There is an 18 1/2" by 24" plywood stabilization and support piece which is placed below the mattress and on the box springs. There is a tie-down cord which fastens to the opposite side of the bed frame to keep the whole device from pulling out from its place. This is all the information I can offer as your adjustable bed is an unknown quantity.

  • depending on the angle and position of the bed, I would think the bed cane could be used as long as the piece of wooden board attached to the cane would fit underneath the mattress. The point is for the patient/person to have support getting in and out of bed safely. I would recommend giving it a try.

  • I can't see why it would be need with a hospital bed. The side rail would provide the same "handle" as the cane for entering and exiting the bed. If a side railing was not used, the cane would take its place as somewhere to grip for stability in and out of bed.

  • as long as there is a place between the mattress and the something flat (solid frame or box spring ) it will work

  • It was positioned at the top of the bed, lowest position and is not able to be lowered, it remains up at all time but can be used by my father to help turn himself or to pull himself in a sitting position. He is in an assisted living and has a hospital bed. The mattress was so bad we put a regular mattress on his bed which then prevented using the hospital rails. We decided to try this. Hope this helps.
