Hot Water on Demand Portable Water Heater also for sale at Walmart.

No, its just a tool for showering. The hot water on demand unit is the only item that does the heating.

Does this product actually heat the water?

If you have a little bit of plumbing knowledge, you should be able to adapt it to another system with a hose. You could probably take it to a home improvement store, or take some pics and they would be more than happy to help you with what you will need. good luck!!

Will this attach to any portable hot water system or only Hot Water on Demand products?

We bought this for our old, old trailer, and it does heat up fast, I'm very impressed with it, for just a hot water heater shower. you will not get the same thing as home, but you are camping!!.

works good when you attach it to the 5 gal black jug for outdoor showering.

Used it this weekend with my Coleman Hot Water On Demand unit. Because without the shower attachment, the Coleman HWOD unit is basically a glorified tea kettle. Coleman is too cheap to include it with the unit.

PRO's:
- Easy to attach to the HWOD unit
- Simple to change the hose (go to your local hardware store and buy 10ft of 1/2" OD/ 3/8" ID vinyl hose. Unscrew both ends, remove the 48 inch hose and replace it with a 10ft hose)
- Doesn't leak

CON's:
- Shower attachment is useless unless you buy a new hose. 4 ft of hose, even when the unit it sitting on a table... unless you are a midget, it doesn't work. Or I suppose if you showered out in the open (not in a shower enclosure), right next to the unit on a picnic table, and didn't mind bending over - that might work. But what a pain!!!
- Can't turn the shower "on" and "off" in the shower to conserve water. Even if you attach a showerhead with an on/off switch, it would burn up the pump. I added a diverter valve to mine, so that when the shower is on, water flows out the shower head, and when the diverter is turned, the water goes back into the container. For instructions, just search on google for "Coleman Hot Water On Demand Shower Modifications" and check out people's videos. There are lots of options for modifications to make this work.

Side note - the connector to hook the shower head on to the HWOD unit is the only "proprietary" part of this attachment. If you can figure out a way to attach the hose to your HWOD unit, then you don't need this shower attachment at all. I wonder if you could just buy the replacement part from Coleman (part number is 2300-5521; they list it on their website for $2.99) and make your own? It would probably end up being about the same price to DIY, but then you could use the shower head of your choice. Just a thought.

Hose is thin walled plastic. Kinks easily. Attaches to the faucet which swings uncontrollably. Hose could have been longer.
