Rated 4 out of 5 by meowmeow2912 HEAVY My desk came with a few dings and dents and it was veeery heavy! It was a bit hard getting every piece up the stairs in my own but it only took like an hour to build and it looks good. Its a bit hard to move because the method of putting it together isnt very sturdy. but over all I think I am satisfied. 12/20/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by TallTee Pleasantly Surprised Overall, these desks are a great buy.We just moved in and with all our other updating and remodeling, we don't have time right now to build the custom desks I want in the home office. So, I bought 2 of these (one for my husband and one for me).I honestly don't normally expect much from pressed wood/particleboard furniture, so I didn't have my hopes up high about these. I figured it would just be something temporary. But they are actually nice, heavy and sturdy. They're nice-looking, too. They were pretty simple to put together, but if you're alone you'll need another person to help turn it on its side. It is heavy, but also awkward to flip over.I think it's most helpful in a review to list pros and cons, so I'll do that:Pros:- Economical- Sturdy- The bookshelves are nice and convenient. You can put your printer and books in the same unit without having to buy additional furniture.- This item comes with black caps to cover the twist-n-lock mechanism used to put it together. That is a nice touch, because the mechanisms are silver. Typically, most ready-to-assemble furniture leaves the screws exposed, which makes it look terribly cheap. But the cover caps blend in with the black finish on the desk and make it look much, much nicer.Cons- Packaging: The desk was well packaged to protect against breakage, but the parts were really, really dusty when removed from the box. It took a lot of wiping with a microfiber rag to pick up all the dust.- Residue: My desks came with a strange, gummy residue on the edges of some of the parts. I'm sure it was from processing; the black finish is just a veneer glued onto the particleboard, so it's probably some leftover glue. Don't use Goo Gone or any sort of cleaner to get it off; just get a dry microfiber rag, apply a bit of pressure in an up-and-down motion, and it will come right off. It's a good idea to do this before assembling so you don't have to climb all over the desk to get to the spots.- Finish: This desk really does look nice, but it attracts fingerprints and smudges. All you have to do is touch it and you leave a mark from the natural oils in your skin. You're going to do a lot of wiping to keep these smudge free. You don't have to use any cleaner to get it off; a dry microfiber rag does the trick. Keep one handy; you'll need it, lol. 12/01/2012
