  • A. Yes. There are several options for this. Certainly Sony designed this player for Flat Screen TVs with HDMI inputs but it has a standard RCA video output as well as composite video output. The Sony designers planned ahead and brought this unit to market for consumers who are updating their media rooms one piece at a time. My primary television is a state of the art, pre-flat screen unit with an S-Video input. I connected the standard RCA video output to a analog-to-S-Video converter that I had in my studio. I remember purchasing it a few years ago at Radio Shack for $25. Until I install a flat screen TV with HDMI input, I'll use this connection. It will do for now but I will state that my former DVD player with a dedicated S-Video output had a superior picture quality than this Sony unit. (This is because the converter is processing an inferior quality analog signal and only making it fit into the S-Video wavelength.)

  • A. Yes, if your TV has yellow composite or 3 colors component input. If not it needs HDTV with HDMI input. If you don't have HDTV, don't bother with Blu Ray players, just get DVD players. Upgrade your TV to HDTV before buying Blu Ray as it's not worth it.

  • A. Analog TV can mean many things but I can assume that you mean something similar to what is now the vintage picture tube TV where electrons were beamed at the TV screen causing major distortion. to answer your question, yes it can. the down fall is on those TVs you are limited to either a coaxial input (like cable or antenna) or the basic RCA inputs (yellow, white, red). Blu-ray players are like any VCR or DVD player and can be connected to just about anything, you just have to have the right cables/ converters to make it play on your TV. The major Downfall of using an RCA connection is you will miss out on all the High Definition features that blu-ray is capable of. Picture quality goes out the door and sound quality follows when you are not running a 100% uncompressed digital signal to a Digital/flatscreen 1080p TV.

This is a stunning product. I got a Magnavox blu-ray player on Black Friday for $60 but it didnt have Youtube, Netflix and any of those features (it had only Vudu) and so I came to return it. Thats when I saw this beauty of a player for $94 in Walmart and I told my dad to get it immediately. Since I have a backup wireless router (it connects to my main router wirelessly), I was able to set it all up for no additional cost (if you dont have a seperate router, you need to get the USB wireless adapter). It works like a charm. The Youtube, Netflix, Pandora, Amazon VOD, etc are all breezy and superb. Only thing is, typing the search fields in Youtube, Pandora, Dailymotion, etc with the remote takes lot of time (the keys are setup like the cell phone where 'abc' are on key 2). With an HDTV, this player is a rocking purchase for the price in which it is sold. Completely recommended! It plays Video CD's too and it plays from USB drive (the USB port is in the back, which is another minor negative).

Perfect Blu Ray Player

Just got one of these, and managed to grab one for $100 bucks. Blu Ray's look beautiful on 1080p, with bright, sharp, colors. DTS surround sound is perfect. I have not used the streaming Netflix and You Tube yet as we don't have a high speed connection at this point, but having those options in the box future proofs this player. This is a great, up to date player, and perfect for a first time blu ray player, buyer. It will not be obsolete like some of the first players that came out, and will be great for many years to come. The price of $158 is a bargain, and is sure to get lower quickly.

This is long but worth reading, great blu-ray player, the blu-ray format and sound is great and worth the money, upconverts normal dvds to a much better picture, some free content, this works on 2.5 mbps "3 mbps claimed by dsl" 10 mbps is preferred=cable, netflix you can only play and pretty much no rewind or fastforward "jumps about a minute at a time", you cannot rate movies on here. invest in a $60 to $100 ROKU netflix player for many movies displayed by genre and the serch feature and also 2 second frame forward or back, slow and fast, youtube is fun on here, THIS UNIT IS NOT WIFI READY $60 FOR THE USB ADAPTER, IF YOUR WIRED LIKE ME YOU'LL BE FINE, the measurements are wrong in the item descrription, it is quite a bit smaller, built pretty tough, only gets warm not hot, should last a while, my father bought a more expensive model and i don't know why it is more expensive probly cause it is just wireles, now i know to buy the cheepest player cause the eye laser can burn for only so long"5 to 10 years maybe?"

This BR player is pretty cool and even better at 94.00 right now. Setup for Netflix is just a bit inconvenient due to you have to go back and forth and set up thru your PC with activation code provided, and then do some system updates that to be honest breezed thru in a flash. Very light weight, a tad long I think (Could be smaller?) Has other cool internet options, just really need Netflix and Youtube which work perfect. make sure and read the very fine print about it needing a wireless adapter if you go that route it is Sony Propietary cost you about 80 bucks. I had a black rectangular box showing up when I first connected (Make sure your TV CC is turned off DUH me) Netflix could be better, streams well, but no real interface except what you have in your Que, hopefully we can have an update to give access to choose your movies. Please make sure to use HDMI cable (not included) or component cable (not included I had a spare). I am happy with my choice.

Long story short, don't waste your money on this blu-ray if you want WiFi. Pay the $30 more to have it built in. I got mine for a great price at Costco (sorry Walmart). This blu-ray player worked fine... But I felt the advertising was misleading. When it said it was wifi ready I assumed that meant you could use it to watch netflix etc... WELL, you can but only if you shell out another $90! I bought this for my parents as a x-mas gift so I was really embaressed I was making them spend money to get it to work like it advertised it would (mind you I now know the difference between wifi READY and BUILT IN WIFI). To make a long story short I ended up calling Sony due to what I thought was misleading advertising. After been transfered to 3 different people I was flatly and rudely ignored. Sony has the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with, EVER. But I was pleasantly surprised at how easily and painless it was to return the unit to my local walmart. Although they ended up charging me for my shipping charges instead of crediting them to me (I had to make a second trip to get that fixed), I would give walmart customer service a 9 out of 10 while sony gets a -10.

Good player for basic use. Easy to set up. My only knock is that Sony didn't supply the hdmi cable so that it was hd quality right out of the box. I had to spend another $25.00 to buy something that should have come standard.

This player performed better than I thought it would for an entry level blu ray player. I bought this to replace a samsung blu ray player that was freezing on just about any movie I played on it, either dvd or blu ray. After buying this disc I have had none of those issues. This player does not have wifi, but that was not a concern for me as it was not that important. It connects to a lot of the different streaming sites that the samsung did not. This player is the fastest loading player I've seen, even faster than my ps3 that is in the living room. Over all if all you really need something basic and wireless access is not a top priority this is a great player to get
