i really like this product. I couldnt figure out who to extend the handle so i contacted the company, below is their response, it worked for us: Thank you for contacting Snow Joe The snow broom pole is shipped in the locked position form our factory. To open for the first time, screw the pole to the foam head. Twitch the bottom portion of the pole to the left and pull hard. You will only need to pull hard the first time you use the snow broom. To lock the lower pole, simply twist the pole to the right. Try pulling hard to unlock it for the first time. You will not need to do this again. It's a great product just for some reason our package pressure tightened them up too tight before shipping. Thank you and have a good day. Arleen Wittke 866-766-9563 www.snowjoe.com

Best car snow removal - snow broom

I found out about snow brooms at a car dealership as I inquired how they cleared all the new cars without scratching them. The dealership did not sell the snow brooms and after looking in many stores for one I ordered online through Walmart and picked it up in-store. It was a good and easy experience to order online and pick up at Walmart. The product, the snow broom is so much easier than a snow brush. It moves the snow so easily and quickly and it is great to know I won't scratch the car as I remove the mountains of snow. I did find out from the dealer that it is important not to set the rectangular push pad on the ground as salt and gravel can get attached or imbedded and then create small scratches on the car. It is a little difficult to get the telescoping handle unlocked when first receiving it but the manufacturer gives instructions to twist left then pull hard initially and this works. After the first opening it is easy to use.

One day a co-worker's daughter came to pick her up after a snowstorm. She took the time to brush off every car in the parking lot while waiting for her mum. After that everyone wanted one so I ordered 5 and now all my co-workers and I have one!! Having been behind too many vehicles that have not properly removed the snow from their vehicles I know I am not creating a hazard for others. The long pole reaches the tops of most vehicles and then breaks down for easy storage - or like a couple of smarties did - bring the scraper into the office so we can brush off the car BEFORE getting into it at the end of the day!

Wish I know about this product years ago! Cleans the top of my SUV so quickly! I used to use the standard brush, which required a stool to reach and multiple passes. Now, quick as a wink, the top, hood and windshield is snow free and no stool needed. The large paddle does not remove ice, but great on the snow piles! I have not tried the ice scraper side yet…I usually defrost when I idle the vehicle.

The connection between the broom and handle doesn't stay tight and requires user to tighten it while "sweeping" the snow.

    • A. I had to keep winding and pulling for a LONG time. I bought two of them and the first brush extended quicker. Follow the instructions of which way to twist it. The entire legnth of the handle needs to twist in order to extend it. Once I finally got it extended, I decided that I will keep it extended all the time.

    • A. Just grab both poles and pull. It won't break. Once it is extended, twist to tighten at your desired length.

    • A. Especially the first time you extend it, it does take a great deal of effort and strength because the extender rod has two small knobs to 'click' it in place. You may need to use tools to extend it the first time. Thereafter, it should be as 'glitchy' to extend.

    • A. Hope you are able to extend it now. If not, this is how I do it. I wear gloves. My left hand holds the the top portion of the handle. My right hand holds the knob part and twists/turns the knob counter clockwise to loosen it.(this is the difficult part.) After it is loose, you can pull the lower portion of the handle to extend it. Then turn the knob clockwise to tighten it. The key is to loosen it the first time. It is tight. Hope this helps.

    • A. Does the tightener not turn? I didn't have a problem loosening to extend it but it won't tighten at full extension.

    • A. They mention somewhere (SnowJoe website, maybe) that the first time that you try to loosen the shaft to extend it, you'll have to turn it pretty hard. I'd suggest removing the foam piece, getting a good grip on that end of the shaft, and try unscrewing it from the other piece. That's how you loosen it so that it will move freely. After you extend it, just screw the two pieces back together to tighten it. It should only take a turn or so to get it to where it will move freely. I don't know what happens if you keep turning it - it might come apart completely, so don't go more than 2 or 3 turns. Best to do it without gloves so that you can get a firm grip on it, and it's easier to grip and twist without the foam piece on it.
