the other part goes into the bike wheel and then you screw the freewheel into that part.

    • A. the freewheel goes screewed into the rear hub. you will need a special tool called "freewheel remover" which... right... removes the old freewheel. for installing the new freewheel you don't need anything, just manually screew your new freewheel into the rear hub. the usage itself is going to tight the part as required. let me know if you need photos, i still have the broken part so it can clarify issue and installation.

    • A. There is no other part. The freewheel screws directly onto a threaded hub which is part of the wheel, not a separate part.

    • A. NO, THE PART THAT GOES INTO THE WHEEL IS A COMPLETLY DIFFERENT PART. THE FREEWHEEL IS BY ITSELF AND IT DOES SCREW INTO THE PART YOU ARE REFERING TO.

    • A. No it's just the gear. You'll need something to get the old one off of the other part like a Park Tools Shimano UG/HG puller (FR-1). That tool will also get it on with a #26 socket over the (FR-1).

    • A. The threads that the freewheel screws onto are an integral part of the wheel hub--which would not be included with the freewheel.

I saw a youtube video that converted an old 10sp bike with friction shifters to a 14sp bike with indexed shifters and thought it looked easy enough so found and purchased this freewheel. The part arrived quickly and was packaged very well. It screwed right on to my rear hub (don't forget to put the chain guard on and grease the threads lightly first). I'd previously installed a 130mm rear hub on this bike to convert from steel to alloy wheels and utilize a QR skewer. My rear derailleur is a Shimano 400. Initially, I simply installed the wheel back on and found my current setup smoothly shifted to all but the highest geared sprocket (smallest). I noticed too that my current chain is too fat and wanted to climb up to the next sprocket at each "special" cog so don't forget to purchase and install an appropriate chain as well. New freewheel, a new chain and a little adjustment and I am good to go! That was almost too easy...

I've never replaced one of these before, and the hardest part was getting the old one off. Had to use a pipe over the end of the rachet to get more leverage. The new one screwed in and fit perfectly thanks to the great pictures online I got the right one for my 26" Schwinn Sidewinder mountain bike. The old one had some broken teeth and the chain used to slip when I applied full pressure. Now I don't have to worry about pushing too hard when I pedal.

I ride my bike every day approx. 5 miles, and needed to replace my rear gears. I went a bike shop and heard $20, so i went online to see if it was cheaper. Managed to cut the price in half and get the same product... thanks again walmart :)

Purchased this freewheel to replace the one I ordered from bike nashbar for half the price. Better quality and alot quieter, plus it ships for free to local store.
