A must have grooming tool for long haired cats

I've always purchased the cheap cat brushes in the past, but recently my cats fur has become tangled and matted to the point where it was pulling on his skin, causing irritation. I was afraid I would have to take him to the groomers or even the vet to have them removed professionally. As I was in Walmart, I browsed the pet isle and came across the Shedmonster. I was a bit skeptical, due to my cats condition, but figured it was worth a try. Not only did it save me the money of having to take my cat to a professional, but it saved my cat from getting too stressed by taking him to a professional. I was able to comb out the tangles in mats while he was comfortable and relaxing. He even played with the brush while being groomed. We turned it into a little game. Now he looks much better and healthier, and isn't irritated by matted and tangled fur.

This brush does in fact work like it claims. It is very affordable also. I've seen other brands for $20+ and there was no way I was spending that much. My cats love this brush and it keeps the shedding down. (It works on short and medium length hair also!) I'm so glad I picked this up.

I just purchased this item today from Wal-mart after reading all the great reviews. I couldn't wait to get home because my ragdoll kitten has been shedding his coat all over my couch and clothes. The first stroke was AMAZING! It pulled up so much hair, I couldn't stop brushing him because all the hair that I was lifting up. After a few good strokes I had enough dead hair to make a winter coat! I am one happy customer and so is my baby because I now can help prevent 90% of dead hair and hairballs from my baby. Also I noticed a much softer, smooth, and healthier coat. Shed Monster is for sure something to invest in without breaking the bank.

    • Not really. It does hold a little, but not enough, I think. I found it best to use it in combination with a regular wire pet brush that I already had - the brush would collect all the loose hairs that were coming out. (Off of my cat, and my carpet!) But even if you don't, the fur just falls to the ground around your pet, easy to sweep or vacuum or even just pick up.

    • Yes, it holds it until you pull it off, which is very easily done. You do have to do this every few strokes because it gets so much of it out.

    • Only whatever comes off as you comb. But the hair is easily removable from the tool.

    • It does to an extent, once the come blades get too full ~ a half inch or so of hair thick some starts coming off on the cat. But if you clean as you brush you should have NO problem. At least I didn't!!

    • If you run through slowly it should hold most of the hair until you need to brush it off in the trash.

    • Yes, it does holds the cat hair sometimes when you get to the bottom of your cat near the tail hair may fall out the brush. However, it rarely happens just keep cleaning the brush out while you brush.

    • Yes. You have to remove it after you collect enough hair.

    • One swipe down my cat, I remove the fur or it would be all over the place...its easier to remove the fur from this as it it metal, unlike a regular "brush".

My Blue has a lot of mats in his fur. I need something to remove them without causing him pain or distress. Some are so close to his skin, I can't get to them.

    • My experience with a long-haired dog is that this might not be a good tool for that purpose. This tool (and other expensive analogs) do not appear to be designed for cutting through matted hair as far as I can tell. Perhaps others have direct experience.

    • You wrote this quite awhile ago but I will still give my experience. My cat had a huge mat of fur on chest. Way too close to the skin to even consider cutting off. I went over several times, making sure it wasn't hurting her in any way and to my amazement the mat came off painlessly. If you have lots of mats the only thing to do is try gently to tackle them --it will take multiple passes. I can't cut them off without worrying about cutting skin but this de shedder worked great If it hurts your cat have a vet shave them off and then try to keep the cat brushed. Luckily this product worked for me and I will try and keep her brushed.

    • It sounds like Blue's problem is rather severe. I would recommend just cutting the mats off. He may look a bit odd for a while, but it would be a lot less painful for both of you.
