The &quot;spin rate&quot; or rpm does not matter with only 1 physical disk in it, it will be slower than other traditional drives with multiple disks in it. The reason being it can only read/write with as many heads as it has, and the more disks the more heads. Most data is fractured so using this the heads will have to jump all over the place. The 6Gbps is misleading at best- you will never get that rate with this drive, that&#39;s the speed the cables can transfer data not how fast the drive actually works.
If the spin rate and actual write/read speeds in common use were any good they would list it since it would be a selling point.

As long as there is a SATA port and a power plug on the power source this will be compatible with your computer. The software is included with this purchase though some have reported having to go online and download it.

Yes, this will work fine in your Inspiron. It is capable of SATA 3, but it will run fine on SATA 1 or 2. It does not come with a SATA cable though. So you'll have to buy one - they are very cheap.
Other than that, with SATA, you just plug the drive in and Windows will find it when you reboot. Perfect as a 2nd storage drive. That's why I bought mine.

Will it work as a 2nd slave drive in my DELL Inspiron

The rpm does not matter, will be slow since it is only 1 physical disk. The more disks the more heads, the faster the read/write speeds. This item is flawed by design- other than it takes less to make it therefore cheaper for them to make them. You will get more performance from a multi-disk drive. This is good for data storage, not intensive things like games, video editing etc.
If it had good rpm and actual read/write speeds it would advertise it(like all the other misleading things they have done). The 6Gbps is misleading at best- you will never get that performance out of it, that is the cable speed not the drives read/write speed.

Bought 2 to replace 2 500 GB drives. Now I can archive our 35000 or so photos and still have plenty of room internally.

Just like plug and play.you will. need 4screws,mine did not come with them.not a problem if you have spare parts,or removing the old drive,just use the screws from the old drive.all in all this is a super drive at a super price . Was given a 4 day delivery date....the drive came the next day. What more could you ask for.

Quiet,fast,great buy

I've been running this drive for two years now on three different machines. Works great! I have the Linux OS system on it, which makes it easy to pull out and plug into another machine. No hassle and everything works fine. A great buy!

SG Barrracuda 1TB HDD

The hard drive works great but I had to go online to download the drivers and software because the disc included would not load and Seagate knew of the issue, and they had a fix to download so now it works great!

Works great, now that it is installed

Too early to tell whether this will have the required life-span, but so far so good. Good price, well packaged, arrived when they said it would, and works with no issues whatsoever.

Replacement hard-drive

New 1 TB Seagate Barracuda replace old 400 Mgb. Seagate Barracuda. Old one was noisy, slow and on its last leg. New one is fast and quiet. Amazing! I didn't know a HD swap could make such a difference. Seagate Disk Wizard did it all for copying from old to new. Only glitch now is a problem getting MS Update to work. Probably a missing driver. Walmart had the best price ($53) and pretty quick delivery on the free shipping. I know it's early, but so far so good. At least it wasn't DOA.

Surprisingly fast and quiet.

This review ties in with a StarTech SATA cable that was purchased at the same time.I bought this SeaGate Barracuda to acomodate the original hard drive which had run out of storage space.The price was too good to ignore and the brand name has been around long enough to make purchasing a no brainer. Like the cable this is only day two after installation and everything is working as expected.The computer speed has picked up noticeably and with one terabyte of capacity it should be quite a few years before it gets filled up.Again like the cable purchase a better review would be to come back in a few weeks or months.At this point in time I'm a satisfied buyer and user...

I purchased this hard drive as a replacement to my main hard drive on my HP computer. I got a 1 TB hard drive for less than I would have had to pay for an OEM replacement. So far the hard drive is working great and I was very glad to have gained the extra data storage space.
The only downside that I can find is that no extra screws or instructions came with the above drive. If it had not been for my tech savvy son I'd probably still be trying to get the hard drive installed.

Great value!

It's hard to review a hard drive, since the most important feature of them is "how long they last". That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It might die tomorrow, heh. But it's a very quiet drive... and $49 for a full Terabyte is an amazing price. Got here about 10 times faster than they said it would too. (I ordered it online - shipped to home).

Very quiet, and inexpensive

Great drive.

The product itself works good. I wouldn't have bought it if I would have known there wouldn't have been a real box for the hd. It didn't include any mounting screws, luckily I had some extras from a recent build. Glad it had worked, could have had problems returning the item to a Walmart, if it wouldn't have, due to no real box, and no real UPC. Try to buy an item that won't be a hassle to return if it doesn't work right.

Need to be in an original box.
