Great Bike For The Price

1st, I'm in Chicago. I placed my order at 5:30am on a Wed and was riding it by Fri afternoon. Kudos to Walmart on their excellent processing/shipping times. The frame feels solid, the shifters are smooth and I love the quick release seat and front wheel. I do recommend that you get another seat. I switched it with a Bell Sports Gel Bike Saddle. So far, I have no complaints. It's a smooth ride. Assembly took about 30min. which includes inspecting the bike before riding. This is a great bike if you want a bike with more high end components are a cheaper price. It also has a really attractive appearance.

I've owned this bike (except mine's blue) for a while. I've put over 600 miles on it, mostly on roads and smooth trails. I currently have lights and a rack on it, looking for fenders to start using it for commuting 16 miles a day. Good points: wheels are solid, frame is above average, shift/brake levers are smooth, rear derailer works flawlessly, good frame geometry for me (6' and 200 lbs), crank is decent. Brakes are fine. Has bosses for fenders, racks, water bottles, etc. Bad points: fork, stem and handlebars are HEAVY, it uses a cheap 7sp freewheel (not a cassette), no rear wheel quick release (changing flats requires a wrench), front derailer is very cheap (mine's rusted badly), seat is on the stiff side, only fits smaller water bottles (because of frame size), tires it comes with are for mud only. One of the bottle cage bosses broke and spins, so I can't use it. Crank bearings are the older loose kind, not the new sealed units. What I did: I replaced the boat anchor handlebar and stem with cheap aluminum parts (just as strong, but much lighter). I put road tires on it for highway riding. Since I live in flatland, I replaced the worn-out freewheel at 500 miles with a new 13-25 tooth one. I've replaced the chain, also at about 500 miles. I wasn't sure the wheels would last, but they have so far. Basically, just better tires and handlebars and keeping it adjusted and oiled. I'm expecting to get another few hundred miles out of it before I have to replace anything major, which means I more than got my money's worth out of it. Since the frame is good quality and aluminum, you can upgrade anything on it with ease if it wears out.

the only problems i have with my bike is the front fork. srsuntour used to make pretty good stuff for bikes but this aint it! i would reccomend anyone to look up pricepoint.com or nashbar.com for a better fork(i found one for under a $100.00.) as for the rest they didn't do bad, you can upgrade the wheels to disc brakes if you get the new fork, and the shifters are alivio, some of the best entry parts from shimano. just be carefull of the forks that are installed, and the rest will be fine with general maintainence. also if you just get some fork boots it should last awhile!

This bike does credit to the venerable Schwinn name in style, quality, fit, and finish. I investigated other makes/models (e.g., GT, Mongoose, Trek, Giant, etc.) and I really could not find a better value. The site-to-store option worked very well and Walmart did a great job putting the bike together. My son and I hit the Lakefront trail and put the bike through its paces and it performed very well with its solid frame, shock-absorbing fork, and smooth shifting. It has components and features you'd find on a more expensive bike and it is very light. If you're looking for that "step-up" bike for your son/daughter to hit the road with you, seriously consider this one. Kudos to Walmart with their site-to-store option and to Schwinn (Pacific) for going back to making a quality product with the Schwinn name on it.

As far as a “discount store bike” is concerned – this is one of the best. However, ALL multi-speed bikes will need adjustments. Shift & brake cables do stretch over time…mostly within the first month. Right from the store – take it to a real bike shop for a check up, or learn from videos via the Internet – as I did. The good… 1. Aluminum frame – lighter than steel 2. Braze-on ‘eyelets’ to mount a water bottle cage and more to add a rear rack 3. Shimano ST-EF50 shifters The Bad… 1. Outdated seat & seat post set up 2. Quick release front wheel only – why not both? 3. Only one frame size – if you’re 5’ 2” tall, the bike is too tall. If you’re 6’ 2” the bike is too small for you. If you’re of ‘average’ height – good. In short…good entry level M/B for street & light off-road use. Don’t expect it to be perfect right from the store. Adjustments may have to be made.
