I wanted something that would automatically adjust itself and I could plug it in and forget it. This one does that. I was surprised at the price for what you get, and was also surprised when I opened the box to see how small it was, but it works fine. Would buy again. (turns out the store really had one on the shelf, even though the website said otherwise. Next time I will check first before I order).

I had considered the purchase of a "Battery Tender" brand maintainer for quite some time. I found this unit at my local store, and read the previous reviews after returning home. At roughly half the price, I decided to give it a try, and haven't regretted it. The pigtails make using it easy, and my motorcycle is always ready to go when I am. Just unplug and go! Anyone who owns a motorcycle, boat, tractor, collector vehicle, etc. should have one. I only wish I had gotten it years ago.

I bought this charger on 1/01/2012. I like it a lot so easy to use and has nice quick plugs. The quick plug even mated up to the factory plug on the harley sportster without any mods. This charger comes with a quick connect pigtail for the battery end, and also alligator clamps. I used the pigtail end on my honda cx500 bike which had no quick plug. Then went to another store bought some more quick connect ends and made a setup I can plug this little charger into the middle of the homemade cord, each end of the cord plugs into each bike. So far it's keeping both motorcycle batteries topped off simultaneously with no issues. This charger has no switches. Basically connect to a battery and plug in the wall and done.

    • Yes, but it will recharge when the maintainer senses a voltage drop

    • yes it does, and when the battery drops below a certain voltage it will automatically begin to charge till the battery is fully charged.

    • Yes kind of like a sleep mode. When it see's a voltage drop it will start charging again.

    • It automatically drops to a "float" mode until the voltage reachs a certain level, and then returns to "charge" mode until battery is returned to full charge.

    • It doesn't completely stop. Instead it automatically drops the the charge rate to a trickle charge to maintain the battery at full charge.

    • This charger is fully automatic, it will turn on when the battery needs to be charged, then turn off when it is charged. The charger comes with a 18" pigtail that connects directly to the battery, that pigtail then quick connects to the charger. This is an excellent set-up, since most motorcycle batteries (mine included) are buried in the motorcycle. Only a quick connect to connect and you can (Pardon the pun) set it, and forget it. Leave it connected all winter, and it will keep your battery charged safely. An excellent deal for $21

In NJ its winter, night temp currently dipping down to low 20 to t33ns, I dont go out for 3 to 4 days disabled. Battery runs minor things even when car off, plus low temps drain battery. so thinging a trickle charger or low amp charger will do the job hook it up when not going to use V 8 4.1 litter engine car fore 3 to 4 dAYs in this cold weather. So need somelow amp low profile small unit size like this to keep battery fully charged. Also tto not over chagre battery, Does this unit have float charge and over charge protection?
    by Rocket11213 1/3/2014
    • This should work well for you. It does not over charge and will maintain a fully charged battery. It cannot be used outside where it is exposed to snow and rain.

    • The manual states that it does have the "float" option, but it also states that on a car battery it can take 24-36 hours depending on how low the charge is. Also, by reading the reviews, the ones that were negative did say that on larger batteries, it tended to over charge. I am disabled as well, so I understand the need. I would just put it on when the weather drops really low and keep an eye out for the green light. I wouldn't trust the float option on a large battery. If it doesn't work, Walmart has a great return policy (just make sure to take it off at full charge so it doesn't damage your battery). Best of luck Rocket11213.

    • This product would work well for you. It is logic controlled and switches to maintenance mode once it has brought the battery to peak charge. No need to worry about overcharging. Remember this charger supplies only 1.5 amps, so whatever the drain is in your vehicle, it must not exceed this (and I wouldn't think it would).

    • Yes it has a "Float Charge" capability but it is TOO SMALL to charge and maintain a full size car battery. You need the next bigger unit. This is for motorcycle and similar smaller batteries. The Schumacher XC6 can charge AND maintain your car battery. It is smart enough not to overcharge! You can leave it connected without a problem.
