Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent HD TV Okay I am a electronic geek and researched this item to upgrade from Sony and Samsung TV's to accommodate our new home. We were viewing a 37". Okay here we go. This is the fastest TV to set up. Keep your video on energy saving (reduces the back light and excellent auto setting)...your done. Next the sound is awesome on this TV. The reviews here are mistaken due to not knowing how to adjust the equalizer (7 band). Keep bass halfway (left sliders, 2x) and treble (far right) all the way up. Finally if using HDMI hit source on remote and your viewing the subject (Xbox, Blu ray, Dish, etc). Simple and only three steps. That's it! I only view HD and Xbox online gaming. This TV has excellent picture quality. We have some LCD TV's that are $800 and the picture is equal. This product and through Sony corporation. The sound has several options and I chose the EQ adjustments and set up as "user" (you'll see under sound button on remote). It will boost about 10 DB more than the dynamic setting. I view late night and keep volume at a (3), yes a (3) not a 30. It is that clear and loud. You have to fine tune but the outcome is great. We do have a 1000 watt system with a 500 watt powered sub, but the TV alone sounds great. I am buying another one just to have because it is that great. ALSO we ordered at late night and got the TV at home (5 states away) 2 days after order. I use the rush and it is like $30, but keeps from waiting 2 weeks to get to Walmart. So we set up equalizer and sound to user. Then leave TV at factory energy (power) saving option, and leave picture at normal (not zoom, etc). You need 1080 HD and you will be astonished. The TV also looks great and another thing the stand look the best we have seen as it is a low profile and bottom is not cheap looking, very nice. Oh and ALL the hookups (a lot) are on one side (no flat in the middle of the back (poor design). A lot was given for this and with 90,000 to one contrast it looks great. Enjoy, Robert Broken Bow, OK 05/01/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for a bedroom TV First I was a little sceptical about this tv because I've never heard of "Sceptre" before but after reading the reviews I decided to take a chance to purchase this tv and now I am so glad I did. The picture quality is about the same as my 47" Vizio I have in my Den(which is pretty impressive), the sound quality is pretty good and you can always change it to your liking. This tv is a very good value, I paid $299.00 plus tax which was $17.00. I used the site to store shipping and I received my tv in 8 days which was not too bad. This tv is perfect for a bedroom which I watch all my reality shows and playing video games. 04/20/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Pleasantly surprised I bought this TV a little over a month ago. Ordered it online and had it shipped to the store for free. I was sent a text upon its arrival. It arrived within the estimated window, and pick-up went smoothly. Set up was easy, even with my new BluRay player. I did mistakenly install the base backwards the first time (LOL). I did quite a bit of research and found that most of the complaints with this TV, (as well as most of the new flat screens), is with its sound quality. I too found that the sound quality was less than desirable. I tried all of the different settings and finally decided to go with my back-up plan, and I purchased a sound bar...and now I have absolutely no complaints. I feel like I got a great bargain...as I purchased the TV and the 2 yr Walmart (bumper to bumper, as I call it) protection plan, and STILL spent less than I would've on a well-known brand. Last week my 5 year old 32" Westinghouse started malfunctioning, so I made up my mind last night to buy the Sceptre 32" as a replacement. 04/20/2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Ok TV for the money I bought the TV as a Christmas gift, and it was great for about 3 months. After that, it developed a thin vertical line in the screen, and a 2-3" thick bar running horizontally along the bottom of the screen. I think for the money, it's a decent TV, just disappointed to have issues with it so soon. The people at Sceptre were pretty helpful in the warranty deparment. I had to send the TV back #which means either keep your box, or you have to get one sent from them#. Still waiting to get it back...estimating about a week or two. If anyone out there does have to send one back, just make sure to get them to send you a UPS lable. They don't offer it up unless you ask, but it will save you around $50 in shipping costs. 04/26/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Better than it gets credit for. I did a lot of research before buying this. Almost all the reviews were positive, but it being a brand I'd never heard of and the fact that the price was drastically less than any other comparable television, I was still hesitant. All my fears have proven to be groundless, though. First, let me say that my biggest concern, and as almost every other review has stated, is the sound. Everyone has said that the sound is terrible on this television, and some have returned it for this reason. And it's true, the /default/ sound settings are abysmal. However, if you go into the sound options and tweak the bass and treble settings, this TV can sound just as good as any other. Just have a little patience, experiment with the settings to find what sounds best to you, and the sound will not be an issue. If you still can't get it to sound right, it has both a 3.5mm audio out jack (headphone jack) and an RCA audio out, so it's incredibly easy to hook up a set of external speakers or soundbar (I have a set of 2.1 Altec Lansing virtual surround speakers hooked up to it, and they sound absolutely incredible, especially with the TV's built-in speakers for some extra depth of sound.) The main reason I chose this model over any other was the amount of hookups it has. I'm a huge technology nerd, so I wanted something that could support anything I could throw at it, and this fits the bill perfectly. As stated above, it has both RCA audio input and 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as 3 HDMI, one Component, one Composite, VGA input (with 3.5mm input), USB (for JPG pictures and MP3 audio only), digital audio out, and cable hookup (with built-in digital tuner; it also has an onscreen guide)--all of which are located on the left side (when facing the front), so if it's wall-mounted or mounted to a stand they are all still accessible. The picture is absolutely amazing and every bit as sharp and clear as bigger, name-brand televisions. The first thing I watched on it was Avatar on BluRay, and the quality was simply beautiful. This television supports true 1080p HD resolution, and it takes full advantage of it. I also use it as a clone of my tertiary computer monitor (via HDMI), also set at 1080p resolution, making it amazing to watch streaming video from my PC. I haven't a single complaint with this television. The price is stellar, and I even got free shipping to home via a Wal-Mart promotion (it is also offered in Site-to-Store.) This is an excellent television and well worth the risk of an off-brand manufacturer. 07/07/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by As long as it works -- about 6 months... I thought I was being wise with my money when I bought the 40" Sceptre HDTV in March 2012. It was fairly easy to set up, and for a few months I was blissfully happy with it. Then it wouldn't turn on. Not with the remote; not with the on/off button, nothing. I followed the instructions in the book and still nothing. I bought new batteries for the remote, a new surge protector, and changed the outlet where it is plugged in. Still nothing. I go to the website and discover the technicians only work 7 hours a day, five days a week. I send an email. They say 'call us". I call - five times - before I get a live person, who cannot help me. That's their interpretation of 'customer service'. Finally I reach a technician who informs that I must box up my 40" TV and ship it to them AT MY EXPENSE for them to fix it. It will be gone for 4 to 5 weeks. I'm a 'senior citizen', partially disabled, and on a fixed income. How am I supposed to accomplish this? That is, according to the company, not their problem. If I want my TV fixed under its warranty, I have to pay to ship it to them, and let them have it for several weeks. I think Walmart should not carry this brand and I pity anyone who buys one. I have no clue how I will deal with this problem. I've wasted enough money on Sceptre brand and don't think I'll do anything with it. My advise: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER. 07/31/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sceptre 40 Class LCD HDTV Our neighbor bought the 32" and told us about his when our Sony went out. We investigated and, because of price, decided to try it. We just received our 40" Sceptre and love it! The color and sound are wonderful. It was easy to install to our cable box and presto, we had a picture. However, you have to read the manual to tweek the adjustments to get the picture just the way you want it. We went from a 55" Sony to this and think the picture is of better quality. Not missing the Sony at all. This satisfies our needs quite nicely! 04/27/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good and Cheap Great tv. The sound can be improved by a home theater or A soundbar 04/21/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Stops working after a few months, pain to fix My husband and I bought this tv around the end of November, and it worked great. Until it didn't. We had our PS3 connected to it, and for some reason it would have a problem turning on with picture if you turned on the tv before the game console. Then, in March, it decided to stop showing picture completely, and will now just turn on, but that's about it. We did a little more research on this tv and found that we are one of thousands that this has happened to, and the warranty has a loop hole from the manufacturer, so you have to pay to get it fixed by the company itself. I do not recommend this tv, unless you want to spend 300 bucks for only a few months. 05/13/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great..cheap..TV for our bedroom. It has a sharp picture..maybe as good as our 60" plasma. I would buy this one for my other rooms and so should you!! Great Value 06/23/2012

WoW.Only 2 months in but I'm very impressed so far.Regular pic.is good & HD is very good.Sound is very good.Don't know why others didn't think so.I have more expensive tv's that don't sound this good.Side veiwing not so great, hence the swival base.Don't let 60 Hz scare you.No blur that I can see.Now have 2 and I love them.Hope they last a while. 04/27/2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Decent picture quality poor sound picture quality is good. sound is poor. i recommend attaching external speakers. the tuner pulls in a lot of over-the-air stations. at 299.00 it's a decent buy. 04/20/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Secptre TV I took a chance on ordering this product online, they didn't have the actual TV in the store, so I could not compare it to another product. My expectation of this TV was on point and hooked to HDMI cable makes the TV clarity more crystal clear....It was shipped to the store before my actual delivery date...Good Job Walmart...I recommend this TV 04/23/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by !* HORRIBLE SOUND !* Don't waste your time Some say the sound is fine, others say it's not. I am 100% on the side that says the sound on this tv is horrible. I tried every setting to get it to sound right but nothing got it close the Vizio I own. I don't even know how to described how horrible this tv sounds. And I was not looking for some incredbile sound, I would have been happy with just basic/decent sound like the Vizio but I sure didn't find it with this TV. It was so bad that I took it back and bought a Insignia 40" for about $35.00 more and I am totally happy with the picture and the sound is 20 times better than this Sceptre - it's a night vs day comparison! I would not buy any Sceptre product again based solely on the horrible sound. Yes, it was that bad. I was so frustrated and disappointed with the sound of this Sceptre but I am smiling extra wide now that it is gone and my ears are loving this Insignia. 06/12/2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Very poor speakers The sound system on this TV is the deal breaker. It has a nice picture and good range of features, but be aware, that if you purchase this TV, you will likely need to purchase separate external speakers. The sound on our's sounds like an old transister radio, very tinny, no bass, and it buzzes on high frequencies. I could not recommend this TV unless you plan to using a separate sound system. 06/12/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by TV is awsome simple to use. Sound is extremly loud. Downfall is the picture quality not comparable to sony, but good. Tech team is awsome when called upon or emailed. 04/26/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great bang for your buck! I've had it for a little over 2 weeks and it's been everything I've wanted so far. Pros: About half the the price of name brands of same type, but you wouldn't be able to tell that by watching it Picture is very good 3 HDMI slots is a plus Perfect size for our living room Cons: I guess the sound could be a little better, but I wouldn't say it's bad Theres about a 115 degree viewing angle before the color starts to get brighter when sitting in the corners, but sitting within that 115 degrees is great quality. Overall, a great buy for anyone on a budget. I've recommended it to my friends who are in need of a TV. 05/03/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy set up..Great picture. Fantastic price. I finally won one! 09/08/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by defective, 2 in a row I have always been one to get sucked into deals. this one did not pay off. I got this tv and remote didnt work. it turned out to be the sensor on the tv. which became very irritating having to hit the button on the tv all the time. i had enough sent it back for replacement of same thing. the new one came seemed to work great.. then after 1 week the remote stopped working again and i was in the same boat as before. after talking to sceptre some more i guess this is a problem they have had and the guy was trying to get me to take off cover off tv!(16 screws or more, yeah right) SO i returned that one too and got a more popular brand. 07/18/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by 1080p 40inch LCD tv for under 300 bucks!GoWalmart A bit tricky getting sound working but figured it out. Owned it three weeks now & I'm happy with the purchase. 04/20/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great TV for the money, I bought two of them I bought two of these, I just don't think you can beat the price and the quality is better than I expected. Very happy with the TV and Walmart's Site-to-Store shipping method. 04/25/2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Awesome tv totally Recommend Reason i give it 3 stars even tho i didn't wanna cause it took two weeks to get to my walmart. but the tv is awesome its big its what i expected. i totally recommend it to anyone. 04/15/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Best value for your money. 40 inch tv for a 30 inch price. I like it 05/09/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by This TV is way better than I expected I really didn't have very high expectations of this tv. It's way nicer than I expected. Color clarity is excellent. It has more than ample connection options hdmi, coax etc. The picture quality is excellent, even on non-hd channels. Set up took a total of 15 minutes including attaching the base and connecting to dvd, game system and cable. It was as simple as plug and play. Clarity of all mediums are equally good, I watch a lot of streaming video and it's just as clear as the cable connection. The remote control is easy to use and understand, it's also powerful, I can use it from the kitchen with no hassle. I ordered site to store and received the tv a full 8 days before projected delivery date. I'm glad I took the risk and ordered this, truth be told the price was just too good to pass up. As a safety precaution I purchased the 3 year warranty plan and even with that added purchase the total cost was considerably less than anything comparable on the market. 10/28/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Decided to try for the price $279,needed a TV for the guest bedroom. The set is very nice and was very easy to set up.The picture and sound are very good. For the price you can't beat it. 09/14/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Terrible product Do NOT buy!!! I should have listened to the other reviews. This tv was a great deal for $299 now I know why. I have no problems with my hearing just to let you know. I turned this tv up to the max of 100 and still could not hear. I tried going thru the menu and changing all the different types of sound features, but this did not help. Tv has a great picture and was easy to set up, but I am not sure you could even hear this one with a sound bar. I will be returning this product this week. I have a 32 inch in the same brand and it w orks perfect. 07/15/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Bought this T V in late July and received it on July 29th. It did okay for two weeks and then the sound started going in and out which we tolerated. Then a week later the picture would come and go on a fairly consistent basis. I do not know if I just got a bad T.V or if this is a common problem. From my experience I do not think I will be buying another Sceptre. 09/02/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Stopped turning on after just 1 week! I thought I had scored a great deal on a 40 inch for my room and read the reviews which seemed fine. ( I don't know how I missed some of the reviews that warned of the picture turning off after a few months). All I can say is I'm lucky the breakdowns happened shortly after purchasing the tv so returning it was easy. I would recommend NEVER to purchase a SCEPTRE TV, after just a week of owning it the picture would turn off after about 15 minutes of it being on. You would then need to turn off the tv for about 10 seconds then turn it on again for just another 10 minutes of viewing capability...at first I thought it was the energy saving feature that turns the tv off after about 10 minutes of being idle on a channel with no signal, but it wasn't, it was a completely separate issue. Due to a busy schedule I wasn't able to return the tv until about 2 weeks after I bought it. During that time the length of time the tv would actually turn on with a visible picture got shorter and shorter. Somedays it wouldnt turn on at all. This was the most disappointing purchase Ive ever made and I am a bargain shopper. In this instance the bargain price I got wasnt even worth the time and frustration I spent in dealing with the whole issue. I would NEVER purchase from this manufacturer again!! 06/27/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very impressed with my new Septre 40 Class TV. Much better than expected, I'm totally satisfied. This was the first time I had ordered on line. Wal Marts tracking system was comforting to my doubtful mind. I was surprised how easy the whole process turned out. When I arrived at my Wal Mart store to pick up the TV the store process was amazing. I was guided to the pick-up department, logged in on theire computer and was taken care of right away. I saw a total of three people, one for direction, one for processing my order and the third delivered my TV to my car. Congratulations to Custermer Service, you all made it pleasent. 05/08/2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not worth it The price was phenomenal on this tv so I decided to take a chance. Once I got it and set it up, the picture was great but the sound was unbelievably bad. It was unwatchable. The sound on most flat screens isn't award winning quality, but this was atrocious. I brought it back for a full refund the next day with no issues. I would recommend looking for something with a little better quality and steering clear of this one. For a few bucks more now, why not get something that will last. 05/08/2012
