Customer Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by 4reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Affordable Savage quality! This rifle exceeded my expectations of out of the box accuracy. I had originally purchased this rifle with a cheap $40 scope. I took it home and began the break in process, then commenced to sight the scope in. That failed on all 3 attempts. I returned the scope to Wal-Mart. I then went and purchased a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40, with low profile mounts. It just barely fits with the low mounts, as the bolt handle almost strikes the scope upon opening of the bolt. I then sighted the scope in at about 100yd, and hit the same 1" area time and time again. For as little as you pay to get MOA or sub MOA accuracy (depending on the shooter) straight out of the box, with consistency is awesome. I also took the liberty of mounting a Winchester bi-pod to the gun to make sure my shots were as accurate as possible when target shooting. And as Savage says, the bolt operation is silky smooth. Not quite as smooth as a full custom bolt, but close. The shooting was done with standard Federal ammunition, 150gr bullet available at most Wal-Mart stores. 07/06/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Savage .308 axis I went to my local walmart and needed a riffle for hunting, as my 16yo just inherted my 30.06 due to my not wanting to deal ith the kick. $277 plus tax and call. Pretty straight forward, call, backgroung check, the proscess took a little longer that i would have liked, but it is what it is. I bought 3 different boxes of .308, knowing some guns are fussy, I matched it with a 4x16 x40mm scope from walmart for $59.00, cleaned the gun, installed the scope, which has very wide mounts and doesnt leave a lot of play in the eye reliefe, but I made it work and off to the range. 78 degrees indoor range, no wind 50yards.winchester 150 partioned 15.00 per boxFirst shot on paper, second second touching first shot, third a little off. (2 inches) adjusted the scope for verticle, 26 clicks adjusted the scope for horizontal, 31 clicks and waited mins for cool down.Next group, remington 120 boat tails, partitioned 33.00 per boxfirst shot 3" high 2 inches to the left, next shot 2" away from that one and third missed the paper.didnt shoot this ammo again.back to winchester 150 partioned 15.00 per box2" high dead on horzantal next touching first and same with the 3rd. the fourth flew due to barrel being too hot.15 min break, cold barrel all 3 touched 4th 1 inch out..I couldnt be happier than i am for what i spent. the trigger is heavy 6.5lbs pull, but my gunsmith will get that to 3.5 for $40.00. I would recomend this as a inexpensive riffle (notice i didnt say cheap) just keep in mind you will need a trigger job, and the rest is up to you 10/20/2012

Rated 5 out of 5 by can't beat until you hit the $1000 range! this Gun as I knew for the reputation of savage was amazing out of the box. I received this as a gift for Christmas. it's beautiful and simple. I put on a bushnell 4x16x40 illuminated mildot scope and just got it sighted for 75 yards doing some calculations soon to take it to the 200 yd. range. at 75 we put 5 rounds through the same hole. spend the money on a good scope! also the shooter has to know how to shoot a high powered rifle consistently. no one begins a high end marksman. With time though this gun could beat out some of the upper range competition when handled well with the right optics 03/14/2013
