Only about one-half of the back is 1/8" pressboard. The lower half of the back is 3/4" particle board to provide the needed torsional stiffness.

No, not cardboard but not as heavy of wood as the rest of the dresser...it is a thinner wood backing.

top half is cardboard you will nail in place - bottom half is thick particle board you will nail in place - very sturdy

There is a support beam down the middle of the drawer under neath. The drawers them selves are the problem. They come apart when pulling out. I do not recommend buying this product.

These drawers do have a support beam running through the middle. They also have clips that you nail to the back of the drawer for added support.

I have experienced the same problem with other dressers, but I expect no such problem with this dresser. There is a strong crossbeam along the bottom of each drawer and they are made to fit very securely.

It is very sturdy. Lots of support for the base of the drawers including a wooden bar down the center for mid drawer support.

I feel the bottom is pretty secure, it is a thinner board (def not cardboard), I guess particle board, but it does have a thick support beam running through the middle which makes it feel strong and reinforced.

Yes there are support beams going diagonal on each drawer. They're very sturdy.

It has a beam running in the middle but i dont think i would recommendit for heavy jeans. Otherwise i find it very sturdy.

You wil get the same problem with this chest of drawers. Sorry. I don't think they make any dressers like they used to at all. Each drawer has a 20lb weight limit if I remember correctly.

The drawer bottoms are extremely thin particle board. During assembly, I stepped on one and it cracked. I would not recommend putting anything heavy or overloading these drawers. Although these drawers do have a support running down the middle, they still don't seem to fit together very tightly. I also have problems with lining them up level. They easily fall out of position.

There is a support beam underneath the drawers. They hold up very well with clothing and I have a lot in the drawers. :-)

How sturdy of a material is the bottom of the drawers?

This dresser is closer to brown, but a very dark brown.

It is closer to black. I have a black bed and was wanting something to match it. It goes pefectly. If you look close enough there are some brown marks in the wood but it is very minimal but at the overall look it is black.

Sorry this is definately a brown shade not even close to black. Not especially a dark brown either. Close to cherry without the red undertone

Its more like a dark mahogany Or dark brown color fits ok with my black tv stand
